I started climbing on the Camp Tree Access ST this winter when I moved and I was a little confused by it at first since it fit so much differently than my other TreeMotion saddles that I had used. I have grown to enjoy it a lot, the combination of the bridge and the standard rope access ventral attachment point offer so many positioning possibilities. I do prefer this style of attachment point because it feels more duty built for industrial use, whereas, the Sequoia SRT and the Edelrid TreeRex use rock climbing style belay loops for their extra ventral attachment point. The only big downfall of the Tree Access for me is the leg to waist balance of the bridge. The shackles are mounted right on top of the leg loops and the waistbelt support is so long than your weight is pretty much only on your legs when you use the bridge. I find if you tighten the waist support lines it makes the harness tight and hard to get in and out of so I just leave it loose and deal with the balance issues and if I really need to remain upright I'll utilize the ventral attachment point. I attempted to remedy this issue by using dyneema dog bones to extend the shackles away from the leg loops so that the shackles would be equidistant from the leg loops and the waist belt. It was much more comfortable and well balanced, but the waist belt support was then routed weirdly through the side D's and appeared to be wearing poorly. Although those waist supports are replaceable, I thought it was just safer to go back to using the harness the way it was designed to be used and maybe I'll reach out to CAMP and suggest remedying the issue some other way.
One very important recommendation I have for anyone who is buying or owns this harness is that; If you change the bridge or add a bridge device, after following the manufacturers recommendations for re-installing the shackle, mark the head of the shackle bolt with nail polish so that other than tactile inspection prior to climbing you can also visually inspect the bolt to make sure that the bolt has not moved from its tightened state. Several people have either fallen from trees or had other major bridge failures using Petzl Sequoias where the bridge retainer failed. Since this harness utilizes a screw linked hard point vaguely similar to the Sequoia in its bridge retention, you must be extremely vigilant and recognize this as a possible point of failure in your kit. Doesn't mean it's not safe, it just means its something else that you have to be wary of. Keep an eye out and learn how to inspect your gear properly so that your can understand your systems and their possible points of failure. Climb safe and have a blast!
Thanks for watching and please let me know if you have any questions or want to see more with this harness. It's an odd one, but a fun one and I love climbing in it!
If camp wants to send me an EVO I would love to try the lighter version :)

After almost three decades of climbing the Edelrid Tree Rex harness with their suspenders that have a bungee cord attached at the bottom for a knee ascender is the best and most comfortable saddle ever made. It’s fairly lightweight while still being very durable. It has everything you need to start doing production climbing out of the box. Their talon climbers are also the most comfortable than anything else by a mile! I love Monkeybeaver saddles, tree motion saddles and Courant’s Koala saddle, but the Edelrid gear is just so good and so well designed it’s just impossible to beat in my experience at least. Great video as usual!

Yep you can definitely tell when it’s been a while since I’ve run it. Gas has a lot of power but the convenience of switching a saw on is incredible I love my electric saw.

I see you have a Makita top handle battery saw. Is that 18v X 2? Would you recommend it?
@treespicemedia
@treespicemedia Месяц назад
I have the super small one that just take 1 18v battery. I love it for trimming I rarely use it for large limb removal. It’s so light, I’d love more battery saws. I’d just highly recommend converting to 1/4 pitch chaun

Hello 👋 .. interesting video .. I like your honesty .. am in the process of buying a new harness .. I'm 5'8" .. 175 pounds .. 31 waist .. my current saddle is a (mgn date 1998) .. Weaver model 1036 .. Although it was used by me allot .. I've always taken care of it .. but it is +25 years old .. Am looking at the lighter version of this one .. the EVO .. I work in double rope not SRT .. what do U recommend 🤔🤨🧐👌

I like this harness a lot, but the balance is a little weird and the ventral connection point is going to be a bit of a waste if you like to double rope. For a very similar price I would probably recommend the Courant Koala. It has a better sit balance and quick buckles for the belt, which most people seem to prefer. I know a climber that has the Evo and only double ropes and he enjoys it, so neither is the wrong option.

Based on the size you give I would recommend the S-L camp saddle size.

Very important indeed! I would say it’s between the Treemotion and the new tribe, not terrible pinch, but it happens every once in a while.
