It looks like more free space inside, as other Transit Connect Campervans. And less Plywood inside at the walls = less weight = more fuel Mileage. And so easy to remove the camping parts. Also clever: The subfloor with the drawers = more storage space. I want to do the same at my tiny campervan, now converting. Greetings from sw germany (middle europe) liked + subscribed.
Genius bed idea! Im building out a connect right now, and am going with a slide out slat style, but this is giving me second thoughts! Awesome that everything is removable
Thanks for watching Dean, We have another build going on right now. That is a much different layout and still totally removable. Please follow along on Instagram or youtube to see what we are up to!!!
There’s something about this conversion. Maybe because it’s almost “underdone.” It’s the minimum of what you need done very tastefully. I’ve grown tired of seeing how much people can cram into a small space. The small sink makes a huge statement. Really nicely done.
Best one ive seen yet!! Everyone tries to put way too much in these vans and u are the 1st one keeping it simple with modular removable components. Bldg a transit connect next year and paln on keeping it simple and light as possible. Just gonna strap a fold up bed so i can remove it and only use a twin when just me and a double when taking a friend. Leaving the other side open for ebikes and paddle boards. The windows are genius to use that extra space. Thanks for the ideas!! Btw if u dont mind how much did this build cost the customer in case i decide i need a tax writoff to have mine built? Gonna double as a fiber splicing van for my buiness. Also how much approximate weight was added with this setup? Thanks.
Thank you, It does open up some space for storage. Thanks for watching. We have another Transit Connect van build coming soon with lots of storage ideas.
Nice build I would of removed that bench and put a projector and bam u have a big tv at the back I feel like saving up for one of this bad boys and diy one my self
Thanks for watching. I am about 5'7". Here is a link to the mattress www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08NWS2RXY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Definitely would have like to see the process for building the bed. We would like to build this bed platform but to extend to a size larger than twin but not bigger than full. So creative! Any other details, pictures or drawing of the bed that you could provide?
Nice, neat, clean, and can be removed if you need extra space. But I think the wood you built on top will add more weight to the small engine, and make it work hard on hills plus poor gas mileage. I build mine with the least weight possible. Thank you for sharing some good ideas. I will copy yours and re-do mine, nice.
Excellent work!! I have been watching a lot of transit diy building and this is my top choice. Everything seems to fit me very well. Love the size of sink, bed and bench. Very functional. I’m only 5.1” an this is very nice set up. Thank you for sharing.
A lot of features not seen often on Transit Connect van builds. Would have been nice to see you sitting on one of the benches to be able to calculate head room. However, well done. Simple, cost effective but very functional. The fact that everything is removable makes it suitable for Europeans, where 'fixed' conversions are practically illegal and can result in the van being confiscated. Love the fact that you used a conduit to house the wiring.
Thanks for the comment!!! Glad this can help with ideas. I am about 5ft 7 in tall and i have about 2inch of head room when I am on the bench. The removable ideas great for these smaller vans. Check out the 2018 van we did also for some more cool ideas for removable components. Thanks for watching!!!
The removable sink is excellent, also that you've set it up to fill from a hose. I can't move a 5 gallon can of water. Fold out bed also excellent. How wide is it folded out? Makes the space seem huge! How wide is the sink? Thanks for sharing. Bummer I don't do instagram.
@@bayridgediy3438 oh. ok. im in Texas, , but grew up in Chicago-Indiana border. Lo !!! l. what part of Wisconsin ? I used go to the henery myers festival at the lake in Milwaukee !!!! 😃
Where area r u located? Do u know if this can can b converted into 4x4? I know the E350 style can easily b modified. I'm looking for a van I can take basically anywhere but won't be doing any crazy rock crawling. Want something easy to drive & doesn't require petro every 150 mi. I always travel with my Rottie & sometimes Australian Castle Dog & occasionally the Siamese decides he wants to go hiking also- crazy cat!
To save space use thinner foam for where your legs are - you only need thicker foam for hips and shoulders when side sleeping, In my van I have 10cm foam apart from the lowest 60 cm where the foam is 5cm thick - it takes up less space and saves a bit of money
John Chan The design is straight forward n the finishing is very pro. I like it. May I ask how much is the final cost? Will you be interested to build another Transit? Look forward to hearing your response. Thank you
Hey John, Thanks for watching and the feed back!!! All said and done the van build came in just under $4500 Without the cost of the van. I don't build these for my job just did this one for a friend. I did just finish one more for my sister and the video will be out in the next couple weeks. If you have anymore questions please let me know.
Awesome Question Glad you asked. I built this van for a customer of mine. We are both about 5'7". This was build custom for her knowing she was short. I wanna say she had about a inch of space above her head when sitting up right in bed. I also left a open area next to the sink for a lower chair and the owner tends to work in a yoga squat position. Thank you for watching!!! Make sure to follow my page to see the next van build we are working on!!!!
Amazing man!! I just bought a transit and this is the cleanest design I've seen yet! You made a transit look quite spacious. I wish you had some product links so I could purchase some of the same material and electrical gauges and materials you used.
Thanks Hunter, Glad you enjoyed the build. Best of luck with your build. If there are items that you liked please let me know and I can try to look back and find them.
very nice build. clean and functional. I didnt see where you collect the grey water, only saw your fresh water tank. and for your Max air fan, did you have to go right behind the middle cross beam in order to clear the rear mounted centre brake light on top of the van? I have a 2012 and am still a little leary of cutting that hole in the roof for the fan. I like you hinged flip over bed. I built mine very similarly. also like that you went with thinner plywood. 3/4 is way overbuilt and too heavy for such a weak engine.
Thanks for watching. As for the grey water we just have a hose draining out the bottom of the van. I have it piped to the middle of the van. Very little water will be used so we set it up like a pop up camper. If you check out my Instagram you can see where the fan hole is cut. I kept it in-between the last two supports. It was very easy I know you have it in you!!!!
This van was a Transit connect XL. I am about 5'7" and I could just fit sitting up right. If you opted not to have the drawer on the floor you would gain a ton of room.
Hey Gloriosa, A rough idea of the cost without labor and the van cost was around $4500 usd . Thanks for watching. Check out the 2018 Connect we did also for more ideas!!!
I attached them with a Button here is a link. www.amazon.com/Setting-Stainless-Fastener-Upholstery-Furniture/dp/B087T9DG2R/ref=asc_df_B087T9DG2R/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=437485895655&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6209194674620392521&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1027991&hvtargid=pla-912617570833&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=104231366089&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=437485895655&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6209194674620392521&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1027991&hvtargid=pla-912617570833
Great Question, In this model I did not have to replace the stock alternator. On the newer models the alternator is a "Smart Alternator" It will not allow you to transfer the power back to the house batteries the way I did it. Thanks for watching!!!
Really That is all you could come up with!!!!!! This van has a living area of less then 9 ft long. There are 6 doors all with in the 9ft x5ft area. Sorry I did not put a Emergency escape door on the floor or roof!!!!!! You have to have something better to do with your time time Wim Grondman. Think before you make comments!!!!!!
Sorry, very dangerous and wrong done!!! A CO-warner at the roof is not right. CO is at the bottom in the car because it is heavyer than air. When you lay down in the middle, you die before the CO warner warns.
"Carbon monoxide (CO) and combination alarms should be mounted in or near bedrooms and living areas, on a wall place six inches below the ceiling to six inches above the floor. If mounting on a ceiling, make sure it is at least six inches away from the wall" This is the from the company that provided the CO detector. Thank you for watching the Video.
