Well done Nick for actually going to get yourself checked out. Too many people (let's be honest, too many men) ignore symptoms so it's great that you are both spreading the message to get things checked. Meanwhile, I was amazed that you can leave the headlamp deflectors on in this country. The scooters look fun 😁

I have suffered with terrible IBS for years. Its really had a negative impact on living my life. I sympathise with you Nick. I started having Yakult about 6 months ago. I have one bottle every morning and the difference has been amazing. It really has helped me.

Nick, I can totally sympathise around medical anxiety, it’s awful and can be terrifying. Well done for going to the doctors and I hope the new tablets help and give you some relief x

My doctors fobbed me off for 6 years with stomach problems, I ended up in Barnsley A & E one morning at 5am & after tests it was my gallbladder, after another 7 months the lil shit got evicted 😂 I take Omeprazole every morning & I’ve finally got my life back! Hope you’re feeling better with the meds, if it carries on go back, don’t let them fob you off 🥰

I have suffered with IBS for over 17 years. It really started to affect me, especially after lockdown, and I stopped going out in fear of an attack. I ended up going to a consultant, who put me on a low FOODMAP diet and introduced different supplement. It was a 10 week course and at the end I am about 90% symptom free. I now start my day with half a teaspoon of prebiotic, and that seems to be keeping my symptoms at bay. I'm no longer bloated and I very rarely suffer with trapped wind. Cost about £900 in total plus supplements but it was the best money I've ever spent. Good luck with your gut health journey X

Hey Nick, I suffered with IBS as well and I’ve been on Mebeverine for about 2 years now. It really worked for me and I hardly ever have issues any more. Hope it has the same result for you and alleviates your symptoms.

I have suffered with health anxiety since I was in my 20s, it all came to a head last year when I was convinced I was dying which lead to terrible panic attacks. I had numerous tests including a ct scan from chest to pelvis and numerous blood tests including the test you had Nick. Everything was fine but I was low on folic acid and I was put on HRT and tablets for anxiety but the treatment that really helped was an 8 week zoom course to help me cope with my Health anxiety. I now feel back to my old happy self. I take probiotic capsules with added ginger from boots which has helped my IBS. Looking forward to your European van life vlogs 😃

Thank you guys for talking about anxiety! Mine is mild but I always have to calm down my youngest daughter who is now 22. She used to think she had brain eating amoebas when she was 4 and still to this day calls me like 10 times a day freaking out about things. It’s a real thing so I can relate.

Hi Nic. I suffered for years with bloating and reflux until I went to a naturopath. He put me onto Slippery Elm bark tablets and a daily probiotic. The Slippery Elm eliminates the gas from your system quickly and the probiotic keeps the gut stabilised. I now only take the Slippery Elm tablets as needed. I've commented before on your high salt consumption, using meat substitutes like Quorn, which is extremely high in salt. High salt intake will cause gut dysbiosis.

Nick, I was diagnosed with ibs-d in 2019. First thing they made me do was the low for-map diet to determine what my food triggers are. And the best tablet I’ve ever used was Bio-cult everyday but get it on subscription from Amazo. Totally changed my ibs life. But also, you two eat a lot of “sugar free” high in sweeteners food and they’re notoriously bad for the gut as it is, nevermind if you’ve got ibs. So they’ll be making your guts terrible. If you check low fod map sweetners and only stick to them, you’ll notice a huge difference too. Good luck x

I have IBS as well. I also tested normal on everything, but I started a low Fodmap diet to see how that would help. I don’t stick strictly to it but I try to follow the recommendations. I also totally cut out lactose which has made the biggest difference to me. I can still eat hard cheese but no more soft ones. And if I eat ice cream, I am just sure to take a lactose tablet first. And I am pretty aware of my gluten intake. I too like the gluten free pastas. It was hard at first to make all the changes, but I just feel so much better now that I don’t miss the things I used to eat. It just takes time to find the diet that works best for you. And I beg you to wear helmets with the scooters. I work in a Trauma Department here is San Diego, I cannot tell you how many horrible injuries we see from electric scooters and bikes.

Years ago in his late 20s husband developed severe anxiety and panic attacks. Should mention he is also OCD Medication helped but he ended up changing his job which meant we had to move. When we were settled in our new location he headed to our new (young) GP to get a repeat prescription of the medication. Even although he was NHS he believed there was a place for alternate medicine working in conjunction with regular medicine. He suggested husband to try Transcendental Meditation. He gave him the name of a training centre which was a 45 minute train ride away. Husband completed the course and for years did his 15 minute meditation twice a day. Made a huge difference to his life. Anxiety and panic attacks ceased. As an aside - TM is now being used successfully to treat PTSD

I feel for you Nick having IBS, lots of peppermint tea can help 😊. Nothing worse than having a crampy stomach. Also, apparently the worst thing to do is chew gum as you swallow more air, I've stopped doing this. Looking forward to your European road trip ❤ x

My daughter was told it was IBS for years, she now has Crohn’s, fod map was the worse thing for her, diets contain large amounts of fibre, again not good. It’s monotonous but keep a diary of food and drink, note when you have a bad day. She loves garlic, but next day not good. Foods with shells ie sweetcorn, peas ect cannot be digested . Not everyone reacts the same way to certain foods. The tablets can help but not cure, and you described the anxiety perfectly. Nice to hear a man actually say it . We have even thought about a portable loo for the car! Hope you get relief soon

I have the feeling there’s always going to be something that will arise that will improve the van in someway, so that it’s never going to be in its absolute finished condition. That’s OK, because experience will show you needs you never anticipated or better ways of doing things. I hope the scooters work out to be incredibly useful when you go to Europe.

I had all the same issues after have the operation for acid reflux. Felt sick, wind. Stomach irritation, toilet issues. It’s only this past two months and after a discussion with our doctor it was in fact lactose intolerance. Since switching my diet all issues have disappeared. Lactose free milk and cutting out anything with milk or milk protein powder in has given me more energy and all the pain has gone. Hope this may help.

Hey Brit in Germany here. If you are going through Germany, please add a first aid kit with medical masks to the van (there are specs online). Also please check the rules for scooters. Here in germany you have to have insurance and a sticker to use them. Each country has certain rules about how many lights and speeds etc. 🙂

And never in the 20 years I managed a health food shop have heard of just taking a probiotic 3 times a week, in my opinion your doctor is talking rubbish. Also have you heard of Patrick holford?
