We're in Mickleton and Mike finds himself up to his knees in thistles, but then we have a "stand by me" time on the old railway walk before heading off to one of England's most impressive waterfalls - the High Force Falls.
Thanks Naz very kind of you to say that, I am getting a bit more confident with Midge and letting him fly out a bit further. I have got the other parts of your comments after you hit return too soon - I do that myself all the time 🤣
Thank you for a lovely break here. We have just spent 4 days at this campsite after watching you. It was so quiet with lovely walks, also fantastic bike rides. It was our first trip in our newly purchased van and was a complete success 🙂.
Hello Mike and Trish - it seems like ages since your first Wee Broon Van video introduced me to your Wellhouse Toyota campervan conversion - I ordered one last September and finally collected it and returned home yesterday - at last! It's every bit as exciting as your first description said it would be - even our golden retriever puppy jumped in without invitation and made herself at home on the back seat. Many thanks for your tips and enthusiasm, and we can hopefully now get out on the road and have some adventures of our own!
Thats great news Philip, congrats on your purchase, we are sure that you will have many adventures ahead and sounds like your pup has already made himself at home. All the best, Mike Trish & Keira
We live in Co. Durham about 20 miles from High Force and Low force I loved the drone footage of the fall’s I’ve never seen them like this so thank you for that
Mike and Trica how I look forward to seeing your videos 📹😀 great one yet again. Love the humour and the places you visit. Thanks again for your video take care xx
Loved the shots of the bird, It’s not a Snipe but a Woodcock.. usually so private and hidden..I’ve never seen one as they are so well camouflaged as you say.. lucky you! (I do like me birds 😆)
Thanks Mo, yep a woodcock, but they are very similar and easy mistake to make. First one we have ever seen and probably the last but at least we captured it on film.
Mike great intro ouch, ouch, ouch you had me giggling from the beginning! Fun to watch the 3 of you out and about and enjoying sights and sounds. Loved your music choices and so enjoyed the walks and beautiful scenery surrounding you. The drone footage absolutely amazing especially of the falls 👍 sorry the briars got you while walking through the brush it sounded painful ! thanks for taking us along 🤗
Thanks Jackie, we are glad that you enjoyed this one, we had fun making it. My legs were sore for a while after negotiating through these nettles....ouch! I am getting a bit more confident with the drone, glad you liked the footage and music choices. Always great to hear from you👍
Once again, thanks for sharing so much beauty, flowers and waterfalls but not the nettles !!!! Trying to find a BBQ like yours, sadly unheard of in this country... looking forward to next video... Keep safe...
Enjoyable film and a great find on the Kompact9 ball thrower. I’m probably going to stick with the bag that goes with it though. The area looked really great for wildflowers and wow that snipe! I only have one problem with this channel and that’s how do I stop my labradoodle launching at the tv each time Kiera comes on! 😂
Ha ha, thanks Simon, Keira does the same when dogs come on. We love wild flowers and keen to learn a bit more about them so recently joined a Facebook group. Sane with birds but we got that one wrong, its actually a woodcock but they are very similar.
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot I did think it might have been a woodcock because it was in woodland but it’s hard to get a sense of size in your film. Woodcock are much larger than snipe and if the two, yours is a much rarer find!
I hardly ever wear shorts as I hate getting stung by nettles so Trish wins on that one. I remember that film, quite a good one that. What a find the snipe was 👍. Nice to see Midge being let loose and being pushed further out. I love a good crash out after a walk it’s so much better than sleeping at bedtime. Looking forward to seeing Kiera’s ball being put back in your ball bag next time. You could always get a new one from the butchers 😁 Good tip with the Cobb barbecue. Wish we had room for one. We noticed how everywhere is getting busy now. Going to be hectic come July 19th I think. Good music choices, enjoyed this thanks for posting 👍
Thanks Ken & Carol, I am getting a bit more confident with Midge now so letting him soar a bit further. It sure will get busy come 19th, maybe have a holiday from being on holiday 🤣
Now that's cold. It can sometimes get that cold in Scotland but we are having an exceptionally mild winter this year. Hope I have not jinxed it by saying that.
Greetings from Poland. Sorry Tricia. You got the wrong Mickleton. Your Mickleton is in County Durham not Gloucestershire. The walk on the Tees Railway Walk was lovely. Another line that was axed by Dr. Beeching in his infamous cuts of 1964/65 in an attempt to make the UK railway system more profitable. Needless to say, he failed. Lower and Higher Force are on The Pennine Way. I remember walking past them in 1979. That was a superb video, especially the drone shots over the waterfalls. Keira was brilliant especially when she was upside down! Stay safe and I'll see you again soon. .
Yep, we realised that later it was the wrong Mickleton. That Dr Beeching at it again. It would have been much better for the environment if we had retained a lot more railways. I think we saw signs for the Pennibe Way when we were there, it was z great walk up beside the falls. It was very dry though and apparently the river was at one of its lowest levels in many years.
Those falls were fantastic to see. I'm surprised there wasn't some "brave young kid" trying to jump from the highest point. So Mike, the thistles were nasty huh? Hate when that happens. lol Take care folks. I'm on a video binge today and I'm off to your next video.
Yes the stinging nettles were nasty with short pants on, next time I must wear long ones. Hope you are enjoying your video binge at that we don't disappoint. Take care.
I've been to High Force maybe 3 times but it was nice to see the drone footage to get another perspective as I've just walked down to the bottom and looked up at the falls. Thank you 👽👍
@@MikeandTriciaOotnAboot yes, the river is low up here too in Wylam Northumberland and just up the road in Corbridge you can walk to the middle island beside the bridge. I might be heading off up to Inverness or above on Sunday for a few days, no specific plans yet. Waited 2 years to be allowed back up due to work n Covid exclusions etc.
Oh my goodness, you really are in my neck of the woods. Hope High Force doesnt disappoint as we've hardly had any rain for weeks. Dont forget to check out Low Force too. I live on the edge of Swaledale which is also a stunning dale. If yr around next Tuesday you'd be more than welcome to stop in for a cuppa. If you find yourselves near Ravensworth check out Stoneygate Farm shop. They do amazing breakfasts and have their own butchery. Their black pudding sausages (sorry Trish!) are on another level
Glad that you had a laugh at that bit, I couldn't resist making a joke about it and I don't think Trish knew where I was going with it when I asked her, whats that in your hand 🤣
Again another great video … loved the pace and the quiet parts of just the ambient sound - thanks for sharing. The snipe amazing pics … I struggle with shorts as legs look like they are two pieces of cotton lol
Hi Mike and Tricia, Gloucestershire ? There is a Mickleton woods up near Chipping Camden but it would be a long way for you to go for two or three nights. I've got a feeling you were in North Yorkshire. Still it's a Shire nevertheless 🙂. Didn't stop me from enjoying your travels though. I've got a feeling we're going to be paying higher prices for parking and even brochures after all the missed revenue through lockdown but I didn't think that was too steep if it was informative anyway. At least you managed to get midge up in the air when the wind drop-off a bit.
Hi Nigel, you are right of course we got it wrong, its County Durham. There is a Mickleton in Gloucestershire and we must have picked that up from Google without checking it was the right Mickleton. Thanjs for pointing that out, nobody else noticed....so far. Yes good to get Midge up in the air and we had some great weather to be outside in such beautiful countryside.
We recently stayed at the Barnard Castle site in our Campervan and tried cycling along the Tees Railway path but found it was very overgrown in parts. Also visited Low Force and High Force falls.
The stretch we were on was fine but not too many cyclists, of course the nettles bit was when we had taken a wrong turn. Many years since we were at Barnard Castle.
You should have visited The Bowes Lyon Castle now a Museum , it has lovely grounds and Cafe not too dear. It’s right next door to Barnard Castle Day/Boarding School (Charles Dickens Dotheboys ) that is what Dominic Cumins wanted to do get his son into Prepatory school , but he said he only wanted to test his eyesight .
Beautiful filming over the falls, you no scared you loose Midge? Look forward to the next one ........ good tip, not to wear shorts when waking thro jaggies . Janie
Great video thanks guys, but did I mishear at the beginning of your video…..did you say High Force and Barnard Castle were in Gloucestershire? Maybe a little too far south if you did.🤔
Lol bless them they wont earn an A+ for Geography, it’s Teasdale County Durham bordering Yorkshire/Cumbria, after Langdon Beck/Forest in Teasdale , when you go over the cattle grid you are in Cumbria on way to Alston. Glad you enjoyed yourselves anyway.
You abandoned Scotland. Don't know that area at all. Did you know that if you switch the Action on when you hold it upside down it records the right way up Lovely drone footage
It was cheaper than parking at High Force plus you had to pay to get to the falls if parking at High Force and online reports saying that a lot of people got tickets there. So it was the best option for us.
We parked at the High Force Car Park. The machine didn’t take card and the Pay by Phone service didn’t work. I had to buy an ice cream to get change for the parking machine. They have cameras too and if you don’t buy a ticket within 10 mins of parking you get a parking fine. Plus £2 each just to walk down to the Falls. Cheaper to park at Bowlees and walk.
