as a trucker, Ive stayed many nights there. I find it funny when you said you were feeling anti social at the restaurant. Just about everyone eating there is eating as one person so youd fit right in being by yourself at the table haha. If you ever go back, the beef stroganoff is the bomb.
Would you recommend trucking to a younger guy thinking about getting into it? My grandfather used to back in the day and have always wondered if I should take it up
@@kurtman8954 well I started trucking in dump trucks when I was 23 and eventually moved into semis. I'm now 30 and have my own truck working for my self. I think if you enjoy being out on the road, have a lot of patience and common sense, then you'd probably enjoy it. Having a CDL means you will always have job opportunities no matter where you go in life. And then longer you hold it, the better the jobs can get. So yeah I'd recommend it. Just note its a life style and it isn't for everyone. Once your in, you kinda never leave it.
The fact that they have a laundry, Chiropractor, Dentist AND barber is absolutely bad ass. Truckers work hard. 💪 They deserve all the comfort they can get. 💯
@@Fobiarmy1987 well, it makes sense.if you're doing any sort of serious dental work, you're not driving away anytime soon. But for a pinch, it's good to have.
For anyone curious about dirt cups, it’s chocolate pudding, crumbled Oreos, and gummy worms. (It’s mostly a dessert for kids) I know Mav’s audience is increasingly international and that seemed really niche. Iowans aren’t eating actual dirt 😂
Husband and I took a 45 day roadtrip several years back with our 19ft Airstream pulled by our Conversion Van. Truck Stop hopping almost every single night. I LOVED IT. Listening to the "Big Rigs" bubbling was a Bedtime Lullaby and I looked forward to hearing the sweet sounds of other travelers in motion. Glad you enjoyed your visit there.
@@KatyInNH Our Van is a Chevrolet Classic 1500 Conversion Van by the EXPLOYER Co. The Airstream follows it flawlessly and the Van doesn't even know it's there! We've been in the Blue Ridge Mountains and in a good many different weather conditions so I'm good saying this. We live in North Georgia on a mountain and also in Florida so we did add a power Trailer Brake on the Van for extra stopping power (A MUST HAVE ITEM). We also own a large Dutch Star Class A Motorcoach but for Camping, Weekenders, The Beach, Fishing Trips, and NASCAR the Van and Airstream set-up is pure PLATINUM! In fact we actually have used that set-up for a 45 day roadtripping adventure several years back to just go sightseeing different places. Stayed at Truck Stops, Cabela's, Walmarts, Cracker Barrel, etc., for free or almost free the whole time. However, like your Motorcoach and ours, many style of Vans are not great for off-road. A Truck and Airstream combo is best for that use. Hope this helps your decision making. Happy Travels to You and Yours. SHALOM (PEACE AND FREEDOM) always.
@@pamelaklemp5615 Thank you so much!!!!! We have an 2007 Interstate (10 years and before that a classic 345). We find that it is difficult to go exploring from the campground even with the camper van since so many of the campgrounds are crowded. We are going to replace one of our vehicles in the next year so thinking of making the change up and doing something similar with a comfy conversion van and airstream together. We think it would give us much more room for extra clothes, etc as we make big trips like your 45 day trip Thank you again so much!!! Wally 5939. Katy
@@KatyInNH About using your Van... we put a custom made dresser/credenza on one side of the cargo area for clothes and can use the top for a portable sink and for cooking etc as it is low enough to safely use for that. Doing this provides a 2nd kitchen if you will. Great if added guests are invited or if you're meeting up at some places since the Van has its own queen bed in the rear. We also added a Porta Potty so it's like a mini hotel room in addition to the full-on Airstream trailer. I've gone camping and fishing using only the Van many times too.
Loved this one! Always thought truck stops were super cool and this one seems like a relic out of the past almost. I feel like with how quick the world is changing these days truck stops feel at home sometimes. Lots of old school truckers. This place reminds me of the 80's and 90's, just simple stuff, nothing fancy.
So my dad is a truck driver (retired now) and his Trip was always from Michigan to Oxnard California then back but on the way there we went on the north side (i often went with him during breaks and summer) ive stopped at this Truck stop many times. It was the highlight of the trip...my dad would give me 20 dollars in quarters for the game room and id race other Truckers on the race car game (i became undefeated) this place is literally ridiculously huge and has so much to offer. Get the sausage and biscuits in the restaurant buffet breakfast.
The sausage biscuits is also bomb I grew up going there literally like a second home for me and a great thing That it's only 15 minutes away from davenport right off not right off Brady Street but I totally wouldn't mind going back since I have a trip in a year I'll probably be visiting
My brother is a trucker and seems to like doing it. I'm sure he has stopped there once, twice or many of times. Truckers need more kudos than what they get. They help the country out tremendously.
Mav has such a wide variety of viewers. From age to ethnicity. It’s so awesome. Thank you Mav for taking us along with you. Seriously man sometimes this is an escape just to watch your videos. I’m sure I speak for every viewer. WE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MAN. I hope you’re enjoying your day. To whoever comes across this & whatever you’re going through it’ll all work out. Remember that. 💪🏽
My dad was paralyzed from the neck down, a Vietnam result. I introduced him to you a couple years ago....I am from homer Alaska. You have been.....My pops couldn't go as far as he would have liked. sometimes I was jealous of the time he gave you. I wanted that time. He would give you a couple hours a day. if not more, just ......watching what you were watching and going back around to do it again. From his wheelchair you brought him to alot of places. Forever thankful. he just passed but I will keep up for him. cheers mav
I honestly loved that you took us along to explore this place with you. There are many places that I haven't been and probably won't ever get to go to so being able to atleast see them to some extent through the scope of your phone lens and videos is greatly appreciated. Thank you for another awesome video Mav.
this is so fun watching someone else’s perspective looking at this truck stop. my dad’s family lives in iowa i wanna say only a couple of minutes away from this stop. so it’s just so normal for me to go into it for just a candy bar or a bottle of water.
I grew up not far from the truck stop in Wilton, Iowa. I hope you found your time in Iowa memorable. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I went from Iowa to Arizona and now South Carolina in my 66 years. Thanks for taking us on some fantastic ventures.
Truck stops are so awesome! Traveling by bus with my Mom as a kid, we stopped at a number of them. We were always broke, but there is so much to see. When we take road trips, it's kind of a family tradition to dilly dally way too long at truck stops ❤ Btw, that pork cutlet sandwich sounds like something I would take a detour for... Thanks for the video, Mav. Be safe bro
Glad this was in my recommended on RU-vid. Stopped at the 80 for a quick nap in my car enroute to Minnesota several years ago and was rushed for time and it was middle of the night. Did not get to appreciate the whole place and what it all had to offer.
I just got done watching, fishing with Becca, she just released a video of 24 hr truck camping at the largest truck stop (Iowa 80). Love watching you both.
I used to love stopping at the Iowa-80 truck stop. It's like a mini city. As you can literally spend 3 days there and not see and do everything. The range of food is amazing.
I just learned of this place's existence earlier today, and just a few hours later you post this! How perfect. That place looks awesome. Thanks for the experience buddy!
What a great truck stop! My son is a truck driver and I have gone out with him a couple times. I love truck stops like this you can find such cool stuff at them! Lots of fun! Thanks for the video!
Been watching your vids for a long time but never commented. Wanted to say I love your positive view of the world and hype you give out, makes me feel good too. All the best to you Mav, stay safe and keep on trucking :)
I lived in an RV, parked at the shop I worked out of. I didn't have the plumbing hooked up, so I snuck into the KOA across the street for showers or occasionally used the truck stop. Truck stop showers are a real treat after sneaking into camp bathrooms and worth the cost.
@@destinyfan9812 spends a night there and ends up taking a shower and eating a hamburger…riveting content. Nate and Kara did this same video years ago and it was waayyyy better. Check it out.
@@destinyfan9812 Mav does more in a day than you’ll accomplish in your life. I hope you find some happiness in your sad miserable life and maybe find something better to do than hate on people online🤡
I’m not sure why anyone would go to the highland when you have the the American wilderness and Canadian wilderness there The various mountain ranges , the deserts the forest and lakes the canyons etc
My grandma lived 20ish min away from here. Passing this was a big part my childhood to early 20s life. And after grandma passed all my family stopped meeting here. So to see the inside finally from you. This place was a sign my family and cousins was close by
Now that you've seen this on a regular day. You should go back for the Truck Jamboree in July. I think it starts on the 12th and ends on the 15th. It's the biggest truck show of the year. Trucks old and modern all tricked out come to this show.
I remember when truck stop showers were five bucks. That was the nineties. If you were in a band on the road, hitting a truck stop at three in the morning after a gig was like discovering heaven.
I actually car camped in my 2003 Subaru Baja for two days there in 2021. I had my trusty dog Whitley with me. It truly has everything you need. I visited the Hoover Presidential library and museum which is nearby. The second night there we had wicked thunderstorms.
Mav, as a born and raised Iowan I want to apologize and beg that you visit Maquoketa Caves State Park, Ledges State Park, anywhere in Okoboji, or really even a Des Moines KFC bathroom. They’re all vastly better. I lived 10 minutes from this place for four years and it still wakes me up at night. COME BACK TO IOWA, WE CAN DO BETTER! WE LOVE YOU!
I spent 13 years long haul trucking. Spent many a night at Iowa 80. Great place to clear your hours up. Do laundry, get your hair cut. Even get your DOT physical at the chiropractor. The food courts not bad. Honestly though the restaurant is in my opinion a disappointment, could be better. They supposedly have enough parking for 800 trucks. And over by the truck fueling area they have a place to wash your dog. If you go there again spend some time talking to some drivers. Not all will be interested but most will. Ask them questions. Have a great day Mav.😊
Taking so many road trips as a kid we stopped as so many different truck stops. The more rural the truck stop the better because it always had such interesting, weird things, and so much variety! Those were the days....
Hey Mav... Happy you posted this video...I stopped at that truck stop with an old boyfriend trucker who wanted to show me the place a few years back. I was impressed.. and loved the restaurant. 👍👍🌼
Come to Henry Ford Village in Dearborn, MI. They have one of the largest collections of vintage vehicles, tractors, trains, and works. It is indoor and outdoor during the summer and a beautiful piece of history to experience.
4:51 First thing Mav checks out is the fish. Another great show. Interesting subject and some great camera work. Thanks again Mav for taking us along on your trip.
