So I definitely found what the voice is! It's a commercial that is run on RU-vid. How it became imprinted onto the video is beyond me? It least my truck camper is not haunted!
That's interesting how it became imprinted on your video....... It sounds more like your voice saying, "I'm stuck, huh", more than a commercial imprint... would have caught me off guard.
When I was editing it the sound definitely cought me off guard. The truck was completely quiet while driving. I do that so I can get the sound of the engine and tires on the snow. I have no clue how the voice got there.
I’m a 70 yr old country girl from Southeast Texas & love the outdoors. I use to solo camp in a tent. I truly enjoy your videos & the fact that you are such a wonderful person. You’re such a rare specimen of a human being & it warms my old heart. Thank you for taking me on your adventures!!!
Your facial expression when the truck quit again , was priceless ! Glad that you didn't edit it out . You've convinced he to leave the diesel and camper parked till spring and order a wood stove for the tent and car camp .. LOL Looking forward to your next outing as always .
We used to go to Itasca every summer when I was a kid. Haven't been there for over 40 years though. I drove diesels for many years & only had one gel up once. That was right after I filled it up with diesel. Made it 9 of the 10 miles home & dead. Pushed it home the rest of the way. Never had a diesel pickup though. I had a 82 Oldsmobile diesel & later a 82 Buick Park Avenue diesel. Loved the diesel cars. You wouldn't win any races but the mileage was excellent & you had a big 4 door car.
That was definitely a creepy recording. Glad that you were able to get your truck running. This is one of our bucket list places to visit. Thank you for sharing the video we really enjoyed it. Mary💕Fred
Your can of Folgers made me smile. My brother claims he'll open a coffee kiosk that sells Folgers coffee. My husband would love that. Must be a MN thing. 😄
A gas engine looks good to me. What a blessing to know what you know in order to fix the problem you had otherwise you would have been out alot of money. To see that little narrow creek is mind boggling to think it's what makes up the Mississippi river. I don't see how it's possible. It goes against logic I think. I am convinced that winter camping is the way to go because I too am an introvert and crowds and groups make me uptight. Thank you for the video and safe travels!
New sub here. Donna why you don’t have a million subs already. Great content and most importantly you have a great vibe and seem very humble. I wish you the best bro! Keep up the awesome work!
Itasca is a favorite spot for my wife and I. We go in the months when there’s less people but never in the winter. I loved seeing it when it’s covered with snow! I’m an outdoors, no people person but I’m stuck inside when it’s 95° out. Your videos have been an escape! Thank you!
I was camping in my roof top tent in Sedona one night when my pup started barking at something. I sat up and listened for a moment and didn't hear anything so I told her to be quiet. Then I thought I heard someone very quietly whisper "good doggie." It was so quiet I wasn't sure if it was real or I just imagined it. Maybe just the wind rustling the fabric and my imagination. That's what I prefer to believe anyway.
I miss my diesel but glad I didn’t experience what you did. Great video as always. Definitely creepy voice. Perhaps it was a diesel demon letting you know something was about to be amiss. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe the creepy “I’m stuck” was a warning? 🤔 I’m thinking a big block gasser might be in my future, if I get a truck camper. Yet more adventures, who knew. I didn’t know fuel pump heaters were a thing, thanks! No matter what the adventure, that’s still pretty country. My wife, sons, and I camped at Itasca State Park many years ago. We got a kick out of the sign that said how the early explorers talked about the “vicious musketoes.” 🙂 Spelling was more free form then. I have pictures of my family walking across the Mississippi on stepping stones. Thanks for memories!
I’ve seen most of your videos now, this may be one of my favorites for sure! Near my home stomping grounds. Lots of time spent there, nothing like the winter to beat the mosquitoes! Sorry about the truck issues… must be a Chevy thing 😂. Love watching your channel grow! Keep it up!
Thanks! It's really beautiful up there. I'm glad I was able to experience the park without the crowds. I don't live real far away, about 1.5 hours, but that was my first time visiting the headwaters.
Power services white bottle and diesel 911 for gelled fuel. Also, if you have a lift pump you should delete the oem fuel filter. Great video keep it up!
I heard “I’m stuck!” I think my next truck will be gas instead of diesel. I currently have a diesel rig, love winter camping, and worry every time I start on a cold morning. Great videos!!!
That's what my daughter hears! One day...maybe 10 to 15 years from now, I will look at the Ford 7.3 gasser. Unfortunately I can't afford what they are getting for trucks these days.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Isn't hideous? I figure around 65K for a new F250 with the 7.3......that's 2 times what my wife paid for our house when we got married..........45 years ago....it was a nice house.
@@KennyOfAllTrades This is strange but I have seen it.....when fuel gets higher in price the quality go's down. I'm lucky to be about 80 miles N of Wood River IL which is a huge refinery center getting crude from Canada. We get really good quality "fresh" tier 1 fuel. I still only fuel from the busiest stations...freshest fuel.
Enjoyed watching your new video, as always! Sorry about your vehicular troubles, but at least you're mechanically inclined. We share staying to ourselves, primarily. Dislike crowds! Enjoy smaller more intimate groups. Keep up the great videos, Kenny!
Interesting that during Winter Camping , you had problems with the truck and not the camper. It appeared the truck was not plugged in overnight? It's funny but I had the very same problem driving across Canada on the Northern side of the Lake during winter in my 2500HD Duramax and truck would loose power and stall as I was driving. I would stop somewhere out of the wind and let the engine compartment warm up. I had old fuel filters and cold and high winds while drive 60 mph did me in. I have to stop 4-5 time on my way from Calgary to Montreal. Great video. Thanks Kenny. Safe Travels!
I did not have the truck plugged in. I noticed the next day after filling up the gas station had their deisel pumps out of service. I think they got a bad batch of fuel.
I heard someone say I'm Stuck! I'm not a people person either. Give me a nice quiet spot in the woods and I am happy as a hot hog in a cool puddle of mud.
Another great video. The icing problem is frustrating. I would ensure the fuel filter is heated however I’m not up to speed on GM. I have a Ram with Cumins here in Alaska and have not had those type of issues…so far knock on wood. I did have my DEF freeze up after a long spell of -20 temps and it sat in the driveway for a week. But running it daily avoids that issue. Looking forward to your next video and my offer always stands for your trip to Alaska someday.
I have faith that you will solve all of the winter fuel issues you’ve had this year in the future. This will allow you to keep that nice (and probably fast) diesel as your camping truck. I as well have the FASS system and contemplated buying the additional fuel heater. I opted not to because I normally only see about -10F as my coldest temps in the winter. I have had issues with gelling fuel at -15F when it WAS treated with Howes. I limped it to the gas station and pumped in a quarter tank of kerosene. This did clear up the gelled fuel but has less lubricity for the fuel system. I now treat with Power Service white bottle fuel treatment without any issues. But take this with a grain of salt because I normally only see -10F as my coldest. Stay with it, you’ll get it fixed!!
It's amazing how fast the deisel is. I have no problems with Hwy on ramps. There are so many pros and cons with the deisel. Fords 7.3 gas motor looks to be a viable option to replace the deisel, but that's many many years down the road.
Drove Semi's and heavy equip op. before going to the Sheriff's Academy. Power Serve was always are winter additive and even once a month between winters. Good product!
OMG. That voice was some creepy stuff. That is so word that a YouTUbe commercial would imprint on your video. Love the content. I am hoping to get out and do some truck cap camping in this season. I have a high top leer. Man that break down would really freak me out being that far away from anything.
Was lucky to visit the headwaters one summer and in the winter to be at the out flow to the ocean near New Orleans that winter. l have also travel along the great river road extensively. The Mississippi is a great resource.
Kenny Thank You VERY much!!! What a thrill to see where our Mississippi begins! Remarkable!!! Thanks for the mention also....nice surprise! So sorry that you had such a time with your truck. Diesels can be very aggravating in the cold. Then throw a weak battery on top of that....no fun. Glad you had a jump pack with you....what brand? It did a stellar job for you. What we always used for our semi trucks and equipment was the good old fashion Power Serve. When really cold we always doubled dosed......worked really well....most of the time. Every so often we would get sub par Diesel which just made extra work for us. Kenny, once again Thank You for taking us along on this trip......it was great!!!!
I’m a year behind of your creepy voice but it sounded like, “lipstick for deed’s” and more closed caption caught “lipstick for knees” 😂😂 Fabulous video in the freezing cold but beautiful winter and Folger’s coffee ☕️
Thanks! I appreciate the comment. One day, I'll have a camping companion. Right now, life is too busy for a pup. If you look closely you will spot my Glock. I also cay a 4/10 single shot and 22 cal in the camper. You never know when grouse or squirrel will show up on the menu. It's turkey season right now!
Sorry about your truck problems. I'm glad you got them fixed and on your way. Thank you for the trip down memory lane too. I was about 12 years old when my Dad took us to the Headwaters. There wasn't a nice park and amenities over 50 years ago, of course, just a small pavilion, couple of picnic tables and a couple outhouses. It's gorgeous now.
Lake Istaka is soooo beautiful scenery all that snow and that's where the Mississippi river starts wow learned something today 😂😂. Hopefully you have a safe journey home❤❤ Stay Safe and Healthy ALOHA From Hawaii ❤❤❤❤
I am not a big fan of fuel additives in diesels. Too many bad experiences. I keep a propane heater in the truck during the winter. One of those camp stove wire frame types that set on the ground. Mr Heater I believe. I put it under the tank and oil pan before I start the truck if the temp is below 0. Never have an issue with extreme cold starts. Also good to have to heat the hands and feet!
Well, if you have geling problems, then I would suggest easy solutions. (1) Turn on the camper generator or the bumper generator. (2) Plug in accessible cordage of previously installed electric water pipe heater wrapping around all of the susceptible hose and metal piping - warming up the radiator fluid, fuel lines, etc. (3) Also have a (magnetic) oil pan heater (adjustable heating temperature control, hot oil, no cold seizing of dry pistons and rings) and rising heat from warm oil heats up the engine block, the diesel hot ignitor, and the radiator antifreeze. No more engine block heater only warming the block and radiator fluid - while the oil remains frozen and slapped by the cam shaft until finally warmed up. Could also run pipe heater wrap around the oil filter. (4) One might even run a hot pad on the gas tank so that it also can heat up the fuel, stop geling, or any fuel pump and filter in the fuel line. (5) Run this assembly 20-30 minutes before driving off and the engine and fuel will be easily ready for combustion.
@@KennyOfAllTrades Home Depot has Frost King electric water pipe heating coils. 3, 6, 12, 18, - 30 ft length varieties with attached thermostats. Other gardening electrric seed plant heating mats are available that could be spray glued in place on a metal fuel tank or a metal/plastic water tank. Walmart, Tractor Supply, NAPA, Auto Zone, Amazon, etc have magnetic oil pan heaters. I had one in South Duhkota and it worked quite well. Attached thermostat in the heater control.
Fore sure. I would love to climb the fire tower in autumn. The park road leading to the fire tower was closed for winter. I only saw a 1_3rd of the park.
My 2012 GMC 3500 DW 6.6 Duramax (deleted no def) has never had fuel problems in freezing temperatures, starts and runs great in -40f/c You have all the expertise and experience to handle any kind of unexpected situation.
I think I got a bad run of fuel from holiday. I noticed their pumps were all bagged the next day. They must have got a bad batch of fuel. I was also using the original fass filters on the lift pump. They are rated at two microns. I'm now running a 6 micron filter. This last winter, I didn't have any issues. Thanks for watching.
Kenny, Truck Camper Compadre Here Must Say... That Was A Bit Creepy For Sure ! Shortly After My Move To The Desert Approx. 30 Miles SW Of Tucson, Az. I Was Sitting On My Outdoor Patio One Night Watching The Lightning During A Monsoon Storm. I Was Nodding Off When Out Of The Dark Came A Blood Curdling Screem !! Female Mountain Lion In Season Looking For A Mate ( Male ) Dang Near Wet Myself!! Scariest Sound I've Ever Heard !! When I Was Younger And On My Snow Machine Trips To Minnesota I Would Leave My 12 Valve Cummins Running All Day & Night So I Wouldn't Be Left Stranded. Deisel Was Cheap ( Not Anymore ) Lucky My Old Dodge Didn't Get Stolen. Great McGuyver Fix On Your Truck!! All Diesel Engines Struggle With Starting In Sub Zero Temps. If Not Plugged In With Block Heaters And Proper Deisel Additives Mixed With The Fuel. As Well As Clean Filters And Strong Batteries. Another Great Episode !! Looking Forward To The Next. Well Done ✌️
Not a winter weather person now days , when I was younger I didn't mind but old bones don't like cold ! LOL. I bet you didn't get one skeeter bite though ! That's a big plus. I cold weather like that , I used to put a gallon of non ethanol 100% gasoline in with a full tank of diesel . Never had a problem gelling up. Great video ! Thanks for sharing !
Kenny, beautiful video, thank you for posting. Tim here from Kansas City, we just returned last night from your wonderful state, we picked up our new Palomino Back Pack truck camper from the dealer in Ramsey and we just beat the tornados in Des Moines by about 3 hours. I have a question about air bags, do you run air bags on your truck? I have a Ford F-350 duelly . I was not prepared for the amount of sway back and forth (maybe because I’m new to a truck camper and used to a bumper pull travel trailer) if you run air bags did it help with that? Can anyone jump in and give me some thoughts? We are planning a trip to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone in 4 weeks.......seasickness was NOT in my vacation plans 😉
I do have air bags, plus a heavy-duty sway bar. To combat sway I run my bags around 50 psi. At that point the truck is seated on the overload Springs. I don't believe airbags are the answer to getting rid of sway on there own. In fact, I have owned trucks where the airbags contributed to the sway. I use the airbags to level the camper, but not fully support it. I leave that to my leaf pack and overload Springs, along with the sway bar. Before fully committing to airbags, also look at Timbrens. They both have their place in the truck camper suspensions. Sorry I can't give you a specific answer. It seems like every truck camper setup I have owned required different tweeks to the suspension depending on the truck. I did a video a while back on my suspension upgrades. The Silverado has a few different things done to handle the Arctic Fox. I'm glad to hear you cleared the tornadoes, that looked crazy. I hope you love your truck camper as much as I do mine! Safe travels.
yeah im a new sub, but lovin your vids, learning alot actually. Im not a people person either. but as soon as the truck quit I knew it had Gelled, my semi did that a few times. as for the battery, I run a yellow top Aptima deep cycle in my Jeep. on to more vids. lol
I found out what it was.....kind of....there was an Ubber eats commercial for "Lipstic and Things". Do you remember the American Pie Movies, Stifflers mom, it was her in the commercial saying "Uber Eats, they will deliver lipstick and things" Dp t ask me how it got imprinted into one of my videos with a creepy voice!
You missed showing the handmade log cabins by the main lodge. If my memory serves me they were built by the CCC. It would be fun to see you see those beautiful cabins.
Last winter was nothimg but issues for the Chevy. I'm hoping this winter my problems have been resolved, I'm going with a different fuel water separator combination .
My late wife and I used to do a lot of tent camping at Itasca state park when we 1st started dating in the early nineties. I'd like to camp there again someday but it would bring back a lot of memories
I've noticed that things have changed there at the headwaters the buildings are different than I remember. Glad that you're a good mechanic can take care of your truck problems
Not sure if my last message went through. Not popping up on the comments thread, but I’ll assume it did. Man, that’s so weird that you’re having so many fuel issues. Definitely shouldn’t be happening with winter fuel mixture and additive.
