Camping in Wadi Shawka was such a wonderful experience! We booked a Christmas hike with Adventurati Outdoors. We highly recommend booking an adventure tour with them. We started the day by driving up to the camp site through the mountains. The camp is set up high in the Hajar Mountains. It had everything you need for comfortable camping (bonfire, majlis, tables, restrooms, tents, sleeping bags, and delicious food). Once we arrived at the camp, we took a short hike to a natural water pool. Then we headed back to camp for the cooking demonstration. We learned how to make Madfoon. It is lamb that is cooked by burying the meat under the coals of the fire. While the lamb was cooking, we set up the tents. Once the camp site was set up, we headed back to the majlis for dinner. After dinner, we relaxed by the fire and listened to Christmas music. We were treated to roasted corn on the cob, hot chocolate, and s'mores. Hanging out by the campfire was such a nice way to end the day. In the morning, we woke up to the fresh mountain air. We started the day off with yoga. Having the mountains as the backdrop for the yoga class was really special. After yoga, we had breakfast and began to prepare for our hike. The hike was about 3 hours through Wadi Shawka. My favorite part of the hike was when we had to hike through a natural pool. The water was cold, but refreshing. We made it back from our hike around 1:00. Our two days spent at Wadi Shawka were so peaceful and nice. It felt wonderful to be out in nature.
