Alright guys, I’m back with another Vancouver Island adventure! Camping at Sombrio beach should be on every Islanders bucket list. For only 10$ a person per night, you can’t beat it! No reservations necessary. If you plan to visit port Renfrew and Sombrio Beach, don’t forget to search for the hidden waterfall. It’s pretty spectacular. Other honourable mentions, Harris Creek Sitka Spruce Recreational Area, Avatar Grove & of course, Big Lonely Doug.
Big Lonely Doug is Canada’s second largest Douglas fir tree, standing a staggering 70.2m high and is estimated to be over 1000 years old. The old growth forest around it was clear cut in 2012, but the loggers couldn’t bring themselves to cut it down. It grows in the Gordon River Valley on Vancouver Island, which is referred to as the “Tall Trees Capital” of Canada.
Can I just say… DANG am I PROUD of myself for flying my drone 250ft in the air!!!! These drone shots are a first for this girl. Slowly but surely I am learning the ropes of becoming a more confident pilot.
Warning: there are currently ongoing protests against old grown logging happening in this area. Be mindful, careful & follow law enforcement instruction
