3 days backpacking the Otter Creek Wilderness in the Monongahela National Forest of West Virginia. Otter Creek provides an authentic wilderness experience where the beautiful cascades and waterfalls are the prizes for exploring this area. On this adventure we discovered a fine campsite with views of a gushing waterfall on one of Otter Creek's tributaries. When the water levels are right, this area is nothing short of mystical.

Great hike for late spring/early summer! The calming sounds of running water seemed omnipresent, and I'm a sucker for a campsite next to a waterfall 👍

You're right, the sound of water was omnipresent for this one. Some nice swimming holes for summer as well. Thanks for watching!

Well done, OO! Much like BTC said, your audio quality and color grading are impeccable. Are you a native to WV? You have several routes notched in your backpacking belt from that state. Your channel is truly a form a backpacking art! Can't wait for the next one!

Thanks BB! I'm a NE Ohio native but WV is definitely one of my go to spots. The Monongahela just keeps pulling me back in. There are still so many places there I'd like to explore!

I loved every second. Headed to Otter Creek tomorrow for two nights. Second time there, but many times in the Mon. Thought I would warm up vicariously on someone else's trip and found your true gem. Thank you for sharing.

Otter Creek is definitely worth the thru hike. I would like to go back to catch some brookies. How was the fishing when you were there?

Does Otter Creek see a lot of foot traffic? I'm looking to go on an extended hike/camping in the Mon with minimal contact with my fellow humans for a couple of weeks 😁
@OutdoorOperator
@OutdoorOperator 5 месяцев назад
Otter Creek sees more than I originally thought it would. It gets pretty busy on holiday weekends. If I was going for solitude, there would be other places in the Mon I would prefer Otter Creek. Not sure what your goals on mileage are but there are some places in central and southern Mon Forest that see very little people.
@DisgruntledUSA
@DisgruntledUSA 5 месяцев назад
@@OutdoorOperator Can you tell me where exactly? I'm looking for a 2 week trip with no particular mileage. I want a spot where I'll be able to find level land to pitch a tent.
@OutdoorOperator

@@DisgruntledUSA Coulda been the time of year but I've been to Laurel Fork South Wilderness twice and saw nobody both times. I'd imagine LF North is the same. There is a campground separating the two so you may see some ppl around there in season. In the southern section of the Mon there is a Wilderness without trails: Spice Run. I've never been there but it's on my list. Not sure how married you are to the Mon, but there is also the Laurel Fork backcountry in GWNF which is bordered by the Mon on two sides. I just got back from a 4 day trip there and saw more rattlesnakes than ppl.

Great video! Which trails / loop did you hit? Which trail is the waterfall located on?

The trails are listed in the video description. The waterfall was on an unnamed tributary not far off the Otter Creek Trail. Thanks for watching!

Visually stunning, and deeply immersive content, your videos are amongst the best I have come across. Otter Creek Wilderness comes across as an near temperate rain forest here, thickly vegetated with a green vibrance that pops through the screen. Absolutely wonderful, and a benchmark of quality in the hiking and nature genre. Thank you for your efforts.
@OutdoorOperator
@OutdoorOperator 2 года назад
Thanks Walter! I completely agree that it comes off as a temperate rainforest or even a jungle. The vegetation was thick and at times I wish I had machete to clear the trail! It can be frustrating at times but it really does make it feel like wilderness.

Hypnotic and beautiful, as always! All the green plant-life and brown swirling water almost put me in a trance. Great job on the color correction. The colors are really consistent throughout. That salamander shot is absolutely wonderful 😲 I'm impressed at your ability to always find great campsites. This one looks like it had some great white noise to fall asleep to, and I can just feel the relief of drying out next to that fire. Thank you for putting this together. I need to build a playlist of your videos for when I need to relax! Edit: I also love the shot of the fog and the dashboard. Very, very nice.
@OutdoorOperator
@OutdoorOperator 2 года назад
Thanks Chad! I got the fog shot from the top of a fire tower off of the forest road on the drive in. At the time, Kim was confused as to why in those conditions I wanted to get a lookout shot without the view. You could barely see the trees in the initial shot but I was able to bring them out in the grade. And I appreciate your feedback on the colors. This was my first attempt at a proper grade; still getting a feel for it.
