Hi there....I have to correct one thing regarding wild camping in Iceland. If you are hiking or cycling, it is allowed to wild camp for one night in no more than three tents if you are a group. It needs to be on land that is somewhat away from habitation, and a reasonable distance from an organized campsite. It is not allowed within a fenced in area and on cultivated land. The landowner can prohibit camping on his land but there has to be a clear signpost saying so beforehand. Of course it is always wise and courteous to ask the neighbouring farm if there is a spot where you can camp if you are hiking or on a bicycle. I fully agree with this law all until you reach the highlands. There is a plethora of campsites along the coast and in the small towns where you can camp if you are in a car. But when you get into the highlands that is another matter. Travelling there takes a lot more time and organized campsites are a bit few and far between. Of course the rule of the responsible camper should always apply, camping wild or on a campsite. Leave the area as you found it or better.

Super informative! We camped in April and I'm in the middle of editing those videos. It's true how different each of the campgrounds were -- from super basic to really nice amenities. It was a bit difficult to find info on the campgrounds ahead of the trip, but I think that mystery just added to our adventure. ;)

We are going this April. We’re you able to use the summer campsites even though they weren’t open? I’ve read some articles say you can use them even though they are closed but you don’t have access to the shower and other amenities that are normally available during the summer.
@akfasso
@akfasso Год назад
@@nathanstepp86 Have a great trip! That information was really hard for me to find in advance, but I found that a few of the campsites that I was unsure about had little signs up about their winter policies. So, for example, at one campground we were able to park there over night and use the restrooms. The showers were closed, though. That particular spot only asked for a deposit to be left in a lockbox.

Love your tips and your wonderful delivery on camera:). And I love your quick professional intro. You seem a pro in your camera ease 😃 A quick “protip” suggestion on your filming: when you finish a thought or segment, you look at your notes. And when that happens we see your eyes look downward nearly every time. Looking down breaks the visual flow for audience (when filmed especially), so perhaps either: wait longer after a sentence to look down so that you can edit the cut before your eyes drop, or use poster on easel or wall behind the camera so that your eyes stay high at sentence completion. Again I love your videos nonetheless and enjoy seeing the next come out. Thank you for your beautiful work!

For the most part, yes, BUT if the campsite is closed the toilets, showers, kitchen, electricity hook ups, etc. will not be available. Take a look at tjalda.is to figure out which campsites will be best for you to stay at given your route and timing.

The Wife and I live in Germany. We took our F250 4X4 with slide in Truck Camper, it has all of the comforts of home. We blasted all over Iceland, but be aware of the road and weather conditions, you can find this info at most information center or at the camp grounds. most all the Camp Grounds have bathrooms and showers. we have this in our Rig but used the camp ground facilities when we could less water drainage if you Know what I mean. The only thing I didn't like were the tent campers that use our Rig to block the Wind or tie there tents to my Truck when we wanted to leave I would ask the person to untie there tent they would tell me they didn't want to get up, when they gave me flack I cut the ropes and went on. the wife and I are going to do the trip again with the same Rig, this time spend more time in one spot drop the camper and do more 4X4in, if you Grave the time of your life do Iceland.
