I have a house in Baja California and have been living here off and on for 10 years nothing true about what the media says about Mexico I ride motorcycle to make border line some of the most resourceful people in Mexico I always find anything when I am in need.

Mexicans are great mechanics, pretty good people on the whole. Ya know it's the way it is. Especially if you speak Spanish. It's respect, goes along way.

A lot of gringos may not know this, but Mexico has a long history with Harley-Davidson. I would guess that it is decades and decades, possibly going back to the 1900s. This shop looked like a museum. So many things to see. Next time I visit Guadalajara, I will make it a point to drop in and say hello!!

Great post. It always amazes me (but shouldn't) how often things just "work out" when one is on the road "on two wheels". So many people out there just waiting to restore your faith in humanity! I'm near "quitting time" with regard to full-time work and thinking of hitting the road. I've two bikes, an Ultra Classic and a 2012 Dyna (FXDC) and was jazzed to see you on a Dyna (what model), since I'm considering using it for the trip(s). How does it stack up against a touring model for this kind of riding?

Its like this when you are sailing, too. I have had some, "Oh, dude. We are fucked!" moments and it all seems to work out because of the community of cool people. If I am am ever in Mexico on my Softail...this is good intel to have.

I never owned a tourer so I couldn’t tell you. I travel just fine on my Dyna. It’s a Wide Glide.

Interesting when I see your bike packed up. I've got 4 top bags and don't like saddle bags. Like 1-2 person tents at Walmart below 40$. Plan to get a tarp too.

I lived in Gudalajara in the early 2000s & the Municipal Police had a ton of Sportsters & a few FLHs so Harley parts would be around

Back in the 50s, Mexico was well known for their police motorcycle dare devils. They all rode Harleys and were experts riding in close formations.

CA gets too cold at night, and with the short winter days, and waiting for things to warm up after the sun comes up, leaves few hours to enjoy. Cold weather and living in a tent gets old quick. Going a little further south down the coast into Mexico fixes that problem.
