Camping in WILD and empty places. Akitio 

Woohoo! I've been there - over 60 years ago! We had a farm out of Dannevirke so Akitio was 'our beach'. I'm sure visits were rare but I remember Dad and my uncle fishing and crayfishing while Mum and I enjoyed the beach. Your aurora time lapse was stunning. Thanks for this lovely video of a special and secret place.

Great Video, New Sub here (i think) I have been living in the lower NI for close to 30 years, (ex cantabian) Well done for spending time on the road with your kids at such a great time of their life, I agree Akitio is brilliant, if you haven't been there the next beach North is equally good at Herbertville, Dannevirke is a great place, well done on the trip to Waihi falls, I recon they are remote which everway you go, that Waione to waihi falls roads is very sketchy, looking forward to seeing more of your videos, thanks for sharing

We were at The Waihi falls on 18th last month. At certain times, after lots of rain, water pours over the full width of the cliff. It's a great spot.

Mike, what an awesome effort in the kitchen. We have now added Akitio to our list to visit this month. We were at Otaki Beach for the Aurora - man it was amazing. Keep the videos coming.

Regards the soup pot issue if you don’t have one get a crockpot , use very little power and big enough to cook up a big curry or soup, we cook whole chickens in it as well ..

When there’s been a bit of rain, the entire rock face of Waihi Falls is a thundering torrent. Nice to see Akitio from a different perspective, haven’t been out there since the cyclone.

Wow it's changed a bit, when I was a kid there used to be a gas station out there.... mind you that was in the early 80's.

Great video mate, you could almost mistake it for the remoteness of the South Island plus all the slash on the beach (which is a disgrace). Bet it’s great being back on the road again, feels so different after spending time in the towns and cities eh? That waterfall looked like a fantastic swimming hole (in summer tho) 👍

Okay, you have not met me - BUT I have been in Akitio often and slept there in a batch. Usually went via Pongaroa, but through Weber too.

Beautiful place im from dannevirke it is the locals cupboard for kai.
