This video we get our hands on the new 20” Blackstone adventure camp griddle that is only available at Walmart. We were lucky enough to snag the last one on the shelf and try and run it through its paces to see if you could effectively use this camp griddle while camping.
We start off by unboxing this griddle , which is lighter than its 22” 2 burner counterpart. We did off the bat love the easy lid it has and also the way in can effectively block grease from getting on your camp trailer. One of the things we didn’t like was the location of keeping the regulator and how hard it was to put the griddle back on the base. Once we got that figured out it was time to cook.
We started with some basic breakfast items of pancakes and an omelette. The pancakes were great and showed off that amazing non stick surface. We were worried if you could get a little crisp on some items due to the non stick properties and I can say that you can after trying these pancakes. We then moved to the omelette ,where we once again showed off the non stick work of this griddle and cooked the omelette with great ease and even easier clean up then with the regular Blackstone.
Then we tried our hands at some higher heat items for dinner where we did chopped potatoes and onions and the grill handled both really well with minimal burning. Once again cleaning before putting the steak on we saw how easy this griddle is to clean. Then we finished with a ribeye steak that did produce some amazing crust on the outside , but never burnt.
Overall the cons are needing to buy a new set of spatulas as the metal ones from the original blacksotne will destroy the surface and that is an extra 20$ cost for the Blackstone official ones. And the storing of the regulator is a pain and I don’t think we will be placing it back under the griddle.
I didn’t think that this was going to be able to replace my 22” Blackstone , but I think for now this one is going to be our primary cooking device while camping. It can take everything a regular Blackstone can, with much easier cleaning and way less maintenance , which is vital for a piece of camping equipment. We will be using this grill this season and will give a detailed review down the road on how it hold up as that is the only unknown is if the non stick surface can hold up. So far we love this griddle.

What are your thoughts on this new blackstone griddle. So far it looks like it’s going to be good as long as the non stick surface stays non stick. We will be doing a follow up review down the road !

Hate to say this...I feels like Blackstone is going cheap here with of the newer models although it's lighter, its made out of aluminum and with a possible toxic non stick coating on it...note using high heat on it after a while the surface plate might warp more easily than the steel one and possibly emit toxic fumes and burn off of the non stick coating while using it under high heat, unlike the old steel surface.

Cast an steel can last a life time an a whole lot more ,but how many times have we had to replace non stick pans in our homes,the burners an casings of the black stone griddles will go bad before the cooking surfaces,

Great review, love that you used the hatchet to open it. 8) There is no such thing as too much butter. We gave up on our original blackstone after a few months, too heavy, to difficult to clean. This might be something that would bring me back to the blackstone. Thanks for taking the time to review this. - Kyle

Oh man, I like this a lot. My 22in blackstone with the attached hood, is like 70lbs. This would be so much easier to carry and store in the camper. The concerns I would have are the longevity of the non-stick surface, having to buy all new utensils and accessories for the nonstick surface, and I feel like that hinge for the lid might break sooner rather than later.
@UniqueAdventurez
@UniqueAdventurez 3 месяца назад
The long term non stick will be the equalizer. I do feel that if it isn’t used daily and mostly for camping trips that it should hopefully last. Only time will tell. And yes, it does stink to have to replace all the utensils. But if that surface does last , it will hands down be the best griddle/ camp Stice I have ever owned.

Appreciate this review - this new griddle seems to MASSIVELY improve the portability of Blackstone’s table-top griddle line. I don’t know why it took them so long to re-tool the form factor into a compact, self contained box - but I’m glad they finally did! I gotta say, I am worried about the non-stick surface though in terms of durability/longevity. Much like non-stick pans, I assume this is going to have a very limited lifespan (even with plastic utensils/careful handling) vs. the seasoned steel cooktop that’ll last literally forever …. I honestly would love to see them add a model with the same form factor AND a steel cooktop. I assume that would make it a lot heavier but it would be the best of both worlds IMO.
@UniqueAdventurez
@UniqueAdventurez 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the great comment Brannan. Maybe they do look in the future of doing a hybrid type setup, that would be the best of both worlds. Only time will tell on the longevity of the non stick surface. But we are really digging this compact setup that sets up and cleans up at a fraction of the time our regular Blackstone 22 did. So far so good for us a month in.

Thank you or the amazing compliment. We truly appreciate it. The weight is a big difference compared to the traditional version, even a 17 traditional will weigh more than the 20 new version. Good luck with the truck camping. We also hope to take this out truck camping at some point as well. Plus with the easy pack ability should make it easy to use for all different types of camping.

Looks perfect for camping! I'm afraid that the nonstick won't last long but hopefully I'm wrong. I have a 22" original Blackstone that I love but always had problems with wind since I live in a rural area. I just ordered a set of magnetic wind shields for it so hopefully that will mitigate the wind issue. I've also seen others have issues with the top hinge and also with the handle breaking in two. I'm going to get one of these but I'm going to wait until they fix these issues

Great video. I already have the 22 , for camping and love it , but its so heavy. I also have the 36 for the house. Idk 🤷‍♀️ if i should get one i like the one with the side burner so i could boil water, but its a small griddle, . I normally cook for 3-4 ppl when camping. Dont know if its worth getting or not . Does it cool down faster than the 22 bs?
@UniqueAdventurez
@UniqueAdventurez 2 месяца назад
If you have 3-4 people who would say the 20” would be best. The 14” would be better for 1-2 people, but that side burner is pretty tempting. I think the price is a bit high on the 14 for the size. It for sure seems to cool down faster than our 22, and that non stick surface is so nice. Thanks for the great comment, we appreciate the support.

They was our debate as well as we had the option to go with the 14 or the 20. For 1-2 people you could get by with the 14 and have the extra side burner for maybe soup and sandwiches or something like that. We do entertain some larger groups at time so the 20 was the way to go for us. And they non stick surface is a game changer to a traditional blackstone

@alexhafko5667
@alexhafko5667 2 месяца назад
I wouldnt. Aluminum is pretty reactive when its unclad and unanodized. Cooking on it, youd probably wind up corroding a hole in it after a while, not to mention it will leach in your food in the mean time. Not what you want for cooking lol. I imagine somebody will make a steel top for one of these after a while if blackstone doesnt.

The griddle looks great. Long verity of the surface would be of concern, but considering you probably wouldn’t be using it weekly for most people I could see it lasting for longer than expected. As too the video content it was hard to watch due to the large amount of out of focus footage. Turn off the auto focus on your camera and manually focus on the main area like the griddle surface so what you are videoing is easy to see and not the logo on your hoodie is prominently visible, just my two cents.
