Thanks for sharing your experience. Working on exhaust/muffler pipes is often fairly challenging (my past experience). Right now I have a leak from the exhaust pipe, near the top where it connects to the manifold (it's not the gasket/flange), and I'm inclined to take it to a mechanic.
Yeah i feel u im doin tthe same exhaust work on my ford taurus 💪💪💪💪 wasnt really feeling to pay no big money on shop repairs ttimes is really hard outt here tthey got tools n hands so do i 🤣🤣🤣🤣
P0420 is probably the code that typically comes up if there is a leak between the exhaust manifold and the downstream oxygen sensor. As the outside pipe diameters of the new pipe is the same as the old one, a pipe sleeve/band would be a better option. Welding or press clamping becomes a problem in the future. Also, the new pipe will rust very soon. Spray painting with a high temperature paint would be helpful.
Great video. Very real world. I do some work on my car also and sometimes a little job turns into a bitch of a job and you just have to do what it takes to complete the job.
O2 sensors live on the exhaust so they are designed to withstand high heat. They did not remove the sensor. If they were welding directly on the O2 bung, the sensor would need to be removed. Thanks
great job ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, next time you have 2 of the same pipe diameter use a stainleess steel band clamp 12.00 bucks ,, little pricey but so easy to make connection
Cutting corners will only create more problems. Just bite the bullet and buy the bolt on part, If you cant weld. Real world problems require real world solutions.
How'd it hold up after all these years? And why wouldn't you expand the pipe on the car (towards the muffler) to run new flex inside instead instead of out? Seems way more prone to leaks this way to me.
Always bring it to a shop to have it welded BUT make sure they know how to put the new flexible into the exact same position as the original, or the flanges won't fit and the new flexible won't last 6 months. It is true the clamps are useless, it will always leak and smell. Plus you want to keep your original catalytic converter because those cheap aftermarket ones are terrible and give check engine lights.
My car has more room between the flex and ox sensor, and the pipe is a different size than you have. Be sure to measure before ordering. also muffler paste!
Hi. I have a question. How did the gasket works for you? I am having the same issue. I've replaced 2 gaskets already but none of them works. It only lasted for 1 week, then the gasket goes bad again. 🤦♂️
This repair is no good I saw that coming with the clamp. I have never seen a weld like that lol. Looks like jb cold weld or something like glue not normal slag from any type of stick or coil weld.
No it didn't rattle. It fixed the exhaust leak, but not the starting issue. The starting issue ended up being the fuel pump was failing. So it wasn't suppying enough fuel pressure to started the car.
should be a couple of slits in the section that has to be clamped then it would have fitted and allows it to clamp up properly you used no exhaust sealer on the joints
