Solved the problem for me after the three steps..I saved the old settings before doing the changes, The video should mention this at the beginning, not the end. Other then that, great work... Thanks so much.. Thumbs up!!!
Exactly...had to reset the whole os after doing what this video said...talking about a backup at the end after doing all these changes is a waste of time
YOU ARE A LEGEND!!! That second step made it work again. I was so hesitent about if it would work cause i don't know a lot about programming and typing "%1"%* just didn't make any sense to me and i was like "This probably not gonna work but whatever". And then boom it worked! You are a international tresure that should be protected at al cost.
Had this happen suddenly on Win 10. Can't open ANY .exe file, not even regedit. The system was fine one moment, and then the next moment became unable to start ANY of the programs installed, even default programs.
!!!!!***** WATCH OUT!!!!! ***** - NEVER MAKE REGISTRY CHANGES UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERIENCED IT PROFESSIONAL!!! - THIS CAN SERIOUSLY BREAK YOUR WINDOWS INSTALLATION
If you get a loop error when trying to open i suggest going to command folder just under the open folder (exefile => shell => open => command) and setting the values for (Default) to "%1" %* and then setting the values for IsolatedCommand to "%1" %*, i hope this helps
this has helped me so much, i had accidentally set another application to open for exe files and couldnt open anything unless i ran it in admin mode. thank you so much
Finally and I do mean FINALLY! I truly figured out why my .exe install software files were taking longer than 5 minutes to open even when running as Administrator! ^_^ I decided to try disabling everything diagnostic. Here's what I disabled in "Services". 1. Microsoft Windows Diagnostics Tracking - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 Folder = diagtrack.dll (Renamed to @1disable_diagtrack.dll using IObit Unlocker.) 2. Diagnostic Execution Service - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 Folder = DiagSvc.dll (Renamed to @1disable_DiagSvc.dll using IObit Unlocker.) 3. Diagnostic Policy Service - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 Folder = dps.dll (Renamed to @1disable_dps.dll using IObit Unlocker.) 4. Diagnostic Service Host - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 and SysWOW64 Folders = wdi.dll (Renamed to @1disable_wdi.dll using IObit Unlocker.) 5. Diagnostic System Host - Associated file wdi.dll is also connected to this service. (NOW ALL OF MY .EXE SOFTWARE FILES OPEN IN A SPLIT SECOND!) ^_^ (I DISABLED 6 AND 7 BELOW PRIOR TO DISABLING THE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES LISTED ABOVE FOR GOOD MEASURE AGAINST POSSIBLE MICROSOFT SPYING.) 6. Problem Reports and Solutions Control Panel Support - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 Folder = wercplsupport.dll (Renamed to @1disable_wercplsupport.dll using IObit Unlocker.) 7. Windows Event Collector - Associated .dll file found in C:\Windows\System32 Folder = wecsvc.dll (Renamed to @1disable_wecsvc.dll using IObit Unlocker.) (IMPORTANT NOTE: After renaming the .dll files, the descriptions in "Services" will read, "", signaling the service has been completely disabled and cannot be started until the .dll files are renamed to their original names! TO ANYONE READING THIS POST, I ONLY RECOMMEND DOING THIS IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH COMPUTERS AND KNOW YOUR PC LIKE THE BACK OF YOUR HAND. I DID THIS OUT OF DESPERATION, NECESSITY AND CURIOSITY AND IT PAID OFF!) ^_^ (FYI: I HAVE 77 CURRENTLY DISABLED SERVICES USING MY METHOD, INCLUDING WINDOWS UPDATE AND ALL REMOTE ACCESS SERVICES AND SOFTWARE.)
I followed and did all the steps in the video. Still can’t open .exe files and install the software I need for school. Is there anything else that can be done? Would a fresh windows update solve the issue? I could use some assistance.
Can anyone help me? Cause of this video, I cant open any .exe. files/applications. Which is mean, I cant open command prompt, registry editor, etc. How I can bring settings back ? HELP
Great , I din't backupthe regedit and made changes, now nothing works on my computer, absolutely nothing( no commd prompt, rededit, IE,chrome) How to undo the changes:(
Sir actually I did same thing those you mentioned in video, but now sir my system not working properly, and if I open any application on window like chrome, xampp, etc as well as regedit then wordpress file is open, please solve my issue
I tried it but didn't work for me. I tried changing it back to the default setting but as soon as I click on regedit, vlc media player opens. Please help
Love your video but I'm a little upset that you put "make a backup" at the end of your video. It's partially my fault since I went along as I watched but it would've been nice to hear at the start lol. (What should I do if it all goes wrong now?)
At 1:50 that value should be "Application" and does not need to be changed, incorrect fix there. The correct value is "%1" %* and not "%1 ”%* It goes in shell\open\command as the default not shell\open as you have shown in the video. Same thing should be the default in shell unas\command. You also backed up the registry after making the changes rather than before. The thought was there but your fix is done in the incorrect spots and with the wrong value and has poor practice of backing up after the change rather than before it.
I'm on a new computer and I followed all instructions and I still can't install any .exe file. The only thing I was able to install was Microsoft Office directly from the Microsoft site. Any suggestions?
Sir, is this the same trick to solve when opening chrome it says : Problem with Shortcut The item 'chrome.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly, Do you want to delete this shortcut?
Hello I tried all these method. I also uninstall and again install. Now it is also not opening in safe mode. 1. Error:Excel failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair? And When I start repairing it again show that message that 2.Excel could not open start last time. I am getting these two messages one after another. I spent alomost 4 to 5 days. Still it is not getting resolved. Please help My whole work has got stopped
I made a game, and was trying to save it as an exe file (coded in python) but when I try to open it, it says the program is incompatible. I ran the troubleshooter and nothing. I performed a virus scan, and I can open other exe files, but not the python one.
Can you help me with this problem: when I launch subnautica.exe inside a .zip file and then closed the game after playing for hours. Upon running the game again, it resets and my saves are lost. It does this a lot and not a rare glitch. Any help?
If you make an updated version of this video, I would love to see and hear it. I am desperate to find an answer to why I can't open an exe file when downloading an app. If you could slow down your presentation (pretend someone is trying to follow your instructions as you speak :-) It would help those of us who are not as familiar with computer as many others. Also, while I'm being picky, your video was blurred and I couldn't see your computer screen well enough to follow you. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Though your video titles reads, "Can’t Open Exe Files in Windows 10/8/7 FIX", I still had a good feeling it would help me out. Just bought my Cybertron CLX gaming desktop with Windows 10 Home (build 17134). I am able to open .exe files but it would take anywhere from 3 to 5 minutes to open prior to watching your video. After you scrolled to the .exe file entry, I noticed an extra entry in your .exe that wasn't in mine. "Content Type" was missing from my .exe entry, so I added it manually it seems to have helped. ^_^ (NEW DISCOVERY!) Just figured out why my installer software programs take awhile to open. Seems during the first time install is the only time it takes awhile to open. My guess is after the installer info is written to the Registry it speeds up the opening of the dialogue box if I close out and reopen the installer a second time. Now that all of my programs are installed and info is written to the Registry, I am going to export a copy of it and use it in the future if I ever need to do a Full PC Reset.
I’m using Win7 Prof 64 bit and was really hoping it would work for me, no dice unfortunately. Maybe it has something to do with the .exe file I need to open being a 32 bit program??
I done it and now all my programs and file if now convert to PDF exe file and I cannot use any of them. I cannot go back into it to change again. No option to go to. Start do not work to put in regedit to go to run adminstrator. Now nothing is working. It looks like me know I need to format my laptop Not good all and will not have any back ups because everything is wrong.
Had this happen to me on Windows 7. However, I cannot open ANY .exe, not even CMD or regedit. This happened after I tried this trick and now I can't even undo what I did with regedit because I cannot open it. Any one have some suggestions? Thanks
i have the same problem. Some exe cannot be opened. Installation when double clicking exe did nothing, device manager can't be opened but some exe still work. Please please tell me how you solved it if you were able to. Thank you.
I purchased video lecture in HDD but it is in .exe file format It plays video only in single software named video play protect Actually i want to play it in vlc... Can i do that
@@MDTechVideos i installed gta from a site but instead it offered extra stuff and i clicked yes. My pc detected trojan virus and all my files are showing exe.npsg or .npsg file
That is a fine point Ed, but I have an expectation that people would watch the 4 minute video before actually doing anything. It is easy enough to undo by just reversing what is shown. But to be honest with you Ed, it is my personal belief that people who can't watch the full 4-minute video before performing a self-repair, they really shouldn't be fixing their own computer.
MDTechVideos also for some reason I can’t open the dolphin emulator.exe by doing this method. I can still open other .exe files but not dolphin emulator. What am I doing wrong?
MDTechVideos what I tried is reinstalling the emulator (but didn’t work), then followed this tutorial (which didn’t fix the issue), and tried restarting my pc (again nothing). What even causes this issue to happen?
Bruh I can't even open regedit, so I opened it on safe mode and worked but when I'm in the normal it still can't open.(it will open for like 0.6 second then closes itself immediately)
Of course I have a problem like this and I can't open any kind of exe file. Do you solve your problem? If you know how I can fix this issue pls tell me
