Appreciate the edited version. I find it more challenging to watch multiplayer streams because of the turn timers. This was easier to digest and entertaining in a different way from your single player series.
my stupid ass though that you started the same chalange again because in first time portugal wasnt average joo, and around the 3th city i was like wait a minute this map looks familiar.
This video is the perfect way to prove to the Crusader Kings people who think you're bad at Civ that you're not. If you can win against 11 people in multiplayer then their argument has nothing to stand on (disregarding you have the deity cheats)
@@bradjones7491 yeah this happened so often, the solution I found was reducing the amount of allocated memory to graphics, most of the crashes stopped by every 3-4 hours my game crash. At least I don't get the end turn of infinite anymore.
Hey Spudies! I'm the Russia player in this video. Had an absolute blast playing with everyone. My teammates were great and it was an honor to be able to play with Potato. I learned everything I know about Civ from watching his videos over the last 4 years. Genuinely thought I might be able to pull out a Culture of Diplomacy victory, but I had a really rough jungle start with very little production. I'm very much looking forwards to seeing the next videos in the series. Good luck in your future games and I hope you all have a wonderful day!
I swear when I play Canada in multiplayer I get thalassophobia, I never settle coastal city out of fear of getting dumped by an armada from dido or norway early game
@@isaacpowrie465 Portugal, spain, phoenicia, norway, heck even japan are a nightmare to deal with. The best option is just to settle a bit further away, and while you lose on being able to build boats and stuff, at least you dont have to invest everything on a navy that will get shredded in a death war 30 turns later
I didn’t watch the first 2 but this is an absolute GENIUS series. Civ is already a hard game in terms of algorithm to keep retention due to so many parts needed to show off a full game, but stuff like this is an absolute BANGER to show off your skill to people who may not watch the channel in a much more bite sized piece
The most impressive thing about this to me is that every single ai opponent has these bonuses on deity difficulty and they're so bad at the game that they still lose.
It is true, lol. Like you should be defensive in the beginning until the medieval after this, you can dominate on your continent by occupation. The game gets easier when you have more cities and resources than others, and you can dominate with any way you can possibly imagine.
I really enjoy your videos.. I think you should do more of these, rather than just playing harder and harder competition. Fun way for your fans to interact with you, and more interesting as a casual player to see how they play as well as your higher level of play. I know this didn't work out skill wise exactly the way you intended (all noobs) but it was very entertaining...
I think a good civ/map choice to beat Potato would have been giving him Scotland on True Start Location Earth. He's confined to an island so tiny he can't even use all three of his settlers at the start, hampering his ability to use deity bonuses to boom, and doesn't even have mountains to get good campus adjency to get to Shipbuilding more quickly. Two of the noobs' civs should be Norway to harrass him with Longboats and a central European civ like Germany or Netherlands to snatch up all of the settling locations on the European mainland before Potato can get there, also building up their defenses so he has a hard time to land an army and conquer those cities.
Bwahahaha the chat at the end 32:26 was pretty funny. Cool video idea man! I think it would have been even funnier if you were in a discord call with everyone so y'all could smack talk hahahaha.
I've been trying to find what mod you used to give yourself the Deity bonuses, not just the extra starting units, but also the production and other yields bonuses. What's the name on the workshop??
“Should I build Stonehenge? For the memes.” Unless this game lasts long enough for Comets to be a factor, I suppose you can use it for great AA cover over your cities.
phenomenal video even better than usual as a viewer it was really nice to see that high level of engagement with the fans. I feel like if they would have focused half the team on navy and half the time to swarm the coast with big heavy units or horses etc...like you mentioned if they could distract you from building navy that can spread you thin. Also they needed to take one player and dedicate that one to denying the venetian arsenal from you. you should do this again sometime and further randomize the settings
Portugal is super OP on maps with allies... Because they get trade routes for discovered continents + they benefit from the super long trade routes they can get early on since they can easily find far-away allies.
They should've never agreed on an island map - when you can get frigates faster than them, it'll be game over. Frigates are extremely, extremely strong against basically everything in lower tech groups. If you can get experience on a Quadrireme and upgrade it to a frigate and eventually get +1 range, you'll be able to blow up every boat and city on the map. Once you get Flight, the same is true for aircraft (although if you don't have oil by then, RIP.)
You forgot to calculate in the fact that all your bonuses got doubled because of the online speed, so where normally they had 100% build speed and you had 200%, this now became 200% and 400%, this might not seem like a big difference, but on normal speed you'd have 100% more build speed and now you have 200% more, same for all other bonuses. Can easily notice this if you're used to playing vs deity AI in single player games and then add deity AI to multiplayer online speed game, suddenly they're much better, obviously this also applies to players getting those bonuses.
@@smallquant7650 not sure what you're talking about... this is exactly how math works and more importantly it's how the game works, you can test it out for yourself (that is, assuming you can beat deity)
It's double production either way, e.g. on standard speed something would take 4 turns for noobs and 2 turns for potato, on double speed same thing would take 2 turns for noobs and 1 for potato. So no difference, on both speeds potato gets 100% bonus
@@smallquant7650 If you would actually test this shit, then you would realise that with bigger numbers that isn't the case, the only reason your example is correct is because you can't have less build time then 1 turn... If noobs have 8 turns build time at normal, and now 4, for potato this goes, from 4, to 1, not to 2. If you don't believe me, just test it by actually running the game, because this is how the game works.
Well, if YOU actually test it, you'll see that if you have like 7 production in your city on normal then with cheats you get 14 on same conditions. Then you can look at cost of buildings which would be half on multiplayer speed. On normal speed it would take 12 (60/5) turns for player with 5 production and 6 (60/10, where 10 is 5+100% ) for cheater, on fast: for noob with 5 production - 6 (60/2/5) and 3 (60/2/10, where 10 is 5+100%). See, it's the same - twice faster
A lot of interesting strategies open up in this: - Someone could play Byzantium (with a Kongo deputy) and everyone else lets them convert their Holy Cities. On a Huge map, that's 6 free ones. I don't care how strong Deity bonuses are, you are not going to be having a good time against a universal +18 Combat Strength. Even worse, he doesn't even need to take your cities then, all they need to do is kill enough units to convert most of your empire. - Same/similar strategy, but with Saladin this time. Now you end up with Saladin getting +1 science for every city they convert (and the rest let him), *and* Vizier Saladin essentially buffs the rest of the crew by giving them a Holy Site building for extremely cheap. - Going Catherine or Wu Zeitan would make the 1's life a living nightmare by doing constant spy missions. Another great combo to torture the 1 is Joao on Highlands. All of your Unique abilities (except the +1 sight) don't work now.
Newcastle: Australia’s geologically stable location means we never get Earthquakes here! Great to be us! _That one Earthquake that happened in Newcastle:_ 31:22
This is a clear example of what would happen if we allow Machine Learning AI to take over as in-game AI. As much as I know, it is PMW playing. But, if we allow a computer to have the level of intelligence of a Human Being and with the same cheats as the typical "AI". It would be ruthless. Then, again, wasn't there some study that had a Machine Learning AI play Civ, and it crushed human players? Well, not at first, but after learning more of the game. It crushed everyone. Maybe I am thinking of something else. Maybe some other game.
The title alone got me to subscribe like and comment. I can’t wait to watch this video. First I need to decide what to eat while I watch. Very excited so happy this was recommended to me!!!!!
Mans had 6 free cities to start with. It was impossible for the other as they had to build other units first. This is like playing settler level difficulty.
Have not made it through the whole video, but how did nobody choose Babylon? With the AI bonuses it would have made the most since because the Eureka ability easily surpasses Potato's AI bonuses. Also why is nobody using CIVs purpose built for specific win types? I would have gone with Babylon plus 1 Civ for each win type, then the rest balanced with specific eras of dominance.
Bruh, it's only turn 40. HOW. Not even you, but Portugal. Normal players can make that many ships and still get things like walls in such little time?!
