As part of the Gibson Slash collection, the Captain & Danish Pete take a first look at the new Gibson Slash "victoria" Les Paul Standard Goldtop. Based on the top-hat-wearing rocker's most recognisable guitar, this Les Paul Goldtop screams class & style with the strum of every chord.
With a maple top & solid mahogany body. Slash has also added some personal touches to the spec sheet, including '50s vintage C-shape neck profile, Gibson custom BurstBuckers Alinco 2 pickups & hand-wired electronics with orange drop capacitors.

I think the fact that Capt. Lee owns a Marshall AFD100 while not being a massive Slash fan tells you that his "signature gear" often has a universal appeal, because it just sounds great even if you remove the name from it.
@killainmaccallan4700

Well tbh it is just a guitar (or amp) with a name and maybe a special color and small details, it doesn't really make the guitar or amp different unless you are like Zakk Wylde and put EMG's in there or take a Marshall and replace the innards. But just my opinion, btw not hating on signature stuff. I have some..

In the past 10-15 years the quality of import guitars has gone way up. Everything done with CNC, the use of better electronics, better quality control. I started playing in ‘97 and back then there was a huge difference between a Korean, Chinese, Mexican and a USA/Japan guitar. I would love to see Capt come in blindfolded and tell him there are 4 Gibbys, but include an Epi....lol. I think maybe knowing ahead of time that an Epi is in the group has you specifically searching for it.

Pete should have gotten a wah pedal just to make it more interesting.

Just heard the first sound tests and, what I've learned so far, is that Pete's Classic sounds incredible. I had a Classic with those really hot ceramic pickups, and I hated them, but they work so well with that amp. That is a surprise. Edit: Lee says it has 57 Classics. That'll be why. I assumed the Classic would have the 496R and 500T ceramic set, which most Classics had up until a few years ago. That's what I had and they were way too hot for me.

I have a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Studio and those came with '57 Classics, believe it or not: a normal '57 Classic for the neck and a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge. The thing sounds incredible...and it was only $1200 at the time. Aside from the slightly too wide necks (something they rectified with the "soloist" neck on the HP models the next year) and the brass zero fret nut (again, rectified the following year with a titanium one; I replaced mine with a TUSQ zero fret), it was an absolute steal. I can't say enough good things about the sound of those pickups.

as tends to be the case for me after 45 yrs of playing, I have to say that they all sound pretty much the same to me - my favourite les paul is my mate's 80s aria pro ii mainly cos it's thin and light

Epiphone has really stepped up their game. You could really upgrade the pickups and run this test again. See if Lee could pick out the Epiphone.

The only one I could really hear is the Epiphone - the upper mid tonality on the G string and above is noticeably more shrill than all three of the others. And overall, I also preferred the 50's LP (#1) because there is something slightly chunkier about the lower string pick strikes.

That amp is so rock n roll that everyone within a 10km just inexplicably threw up devil horns

In Australia the Slash models retail for around $5,500. Nice guitar, but an extortionate premium.

I wish Gibson would fit the Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pros like they used to in older Slash signatures.

I don't think I'd ever sell my AFD 100, such a great amp.
