What is your Chromebook doing? It is possible that the home or start page was changed. You may change it back by going in the settings andd selecting a different "home page. "

Good news is that Chromebooks cannot run exe files. They install apps from the Play and Chrome web stores. Now to delete the file, please open the Files app, now navigate to the Downloads folder. Select the file and press Alt +backspace or right click it and select delete.

If you forget the password to your Google account, you may go through the steps called password or account recovery. This is where you start the log in process, but then click on " I forgot my password " button. You can then attempt to recover your account .

That could be a heating issue. If you want , you can do a power wash as seen here, if you think it is a software clinch. first, check for updates. Many older Chromebooks that did not come with Android support, received the ability to run the Play Store only after receiving the latest updates. To check for the Chrome OS updates, Go to the time and click it. Now click on the gear icon (settings) From there the settings window will open. Click on "About Chrome OS." After that look for and click on "Check for updates." After getting the latest updates, restart the computer and go back to that settings window. This time do a search for play store. If your Chromebook has the ability to install it, it will appear here in the settings. BTW.. Thank you for subscribing.
A padlock in the URL address box, simply mean that the data that you are viewing and sending is all encrypted, which is a good thing. Chromebooks do not get viruses like a windows PC, because a Chromebook only runs apps from the play and Chrome web stores. They may get a extension. however which may look like a virus to the user, but it is just a pop up window. In working as a computer technician and instructor, I see Windows PC infected and compromised al of the time. But I have seen a Chromebook that was compromised to the same degree as a Win PC. That was one of the reasons for switching all my family and friends to Chrome OS. The number of "tech troubleshooting calls" I received after the switch was null. It is so nice because before my wife's windows PC would get a virus every month or so because she loves to Japanese watch TV from many sources, some of which would install a virus on her Win PC. Now that she switched, she has never received a virus or even malware after more than 5 years of daily use.
The certificates on the Android phone, Chromebook, or both?. On a Chromebook, click the three dots (customize and control..) on the upper right hand side of the browser. Select settings. A new window should open. Now click in the search box of that new window and key in how certificates. The 'manage certificates.' tool opens up and you may remove them there. Sir, my chromebook 99% has virus because it isnt just in chrome and its not a popup, it is opening tabs by itself very fastly, three tabs at once, without my mouse clicking and my touchscreen is clean, and it is when Im in chrome browser it is opening inspect element and other things fastly, what do i do to remove what i assume is trojann. If it is an exetensuon can it move the actual the computer, my question is if the browser was hijacked can it open side-applications like for example Candy crush, because that is what mine did: it opened candy crush, google docs, and another couple of apps. It started in Chrome i was playing a game Conclave and then suddenly i saw “inspect element” is being used randomly, the screen is red, black, grey, hovering over inspect element things. But i did not open Element inspect. I opened a new tab and whil my mouse was hovering over “new tab”, that’s when it opened all the apps simultaneously. And my cursor wasn’t near the apps either, just on the new tab, and my mouse is working fine too, I thought maybe it was the mouse’s problem but the cursor isn’t near the apps it opened so it cannot be that. It is very upsetting to see experience…
Plus the inspect element wasn’t the only thing, it was instantly going to inspect element without manually clicking it, then it would open quickly the deop down menu , all by itself fastly, like 20 frames per second… I advise you not to use this “Conclave” game because all i assume is that it caused this.
You may have someone remote controlling your device. Please do this: disconnect from your wifi and see if it still does the same behavior. If the same behavior continues, then you have an input issue, as in the mouse (touchpad) or touchscreen is causing this issue. I have seen Chromebooks act crazy in class and the cause was a faulty touchpad, 100% of the time. But disconnect from the wifi , just to test it, please.

@@-1a288 Disconnecting from the wifi is meant to be a short term test. I know you do not suspect the touchscreen or touch pad , but I have seen those input devices do crazy things as you described.
Great video. I have a suggestion for a video for those who have chromebooks which are at the end of their support, you should do a video discussing how they can install Gallium OS (Linux distribution designed for chromebooks) or ChromiumOS or Neverware's Cloudready OS.

Great points! ChromeOS doesn’t have it’s own executable file type (correct me if I’m wrong on this though). The Chrome browser definitely has some malicious extensions and Chrome isn’t perfect warning people about malicious sites, but ChromeOS can’t open executables like MacOS and Windows can.
ChromeOS runs on a modified version of Android, which runs on a modified version of Linux. So you can boot a Chromebook into Linux and get a virus there, or install an Android executable file called an APK.
@@Cyorg13 Chromebooks cant sideload APKs from 3rd party sites like APKpure or elsewhere unless you basically modify your chromebook to allow it or enable it to sideload APKs. Only way to download APKs is through google app store which has approved apps and not all android apps are compatible with chromebooks. Installing Linux and making your chromebook a Linux computer is again just you modifying the chromeOS system. I run Native ChromeOS with no Linux and basically safe from any virhs or malware.

The way the word “hacked” is used is a bit unspecific. If you were by the correct definition “hacked”, it’d mean whatever linked online accounts you have on your Chromebook would be compromised, so your Google account would be compromised. Usually Google will send you an alert if there are any suspicious logins, so by this definition of hacking, you will probably be informed In the other form of “hacking” you might mean, " is a virus on my Chromebook?" Chrome OS is based off of Linux, which is usually very secure if you A. know what you’re downloading and B. don’t bypass any of the built-in security restrictions, which a normal would never do. If you have a virus it’s a bit harder to tell. You could look at your devices resource usage to see if it spiked over a period of time, but was fine prior. As a general rule, Chrome OS prevents you from being hacked through communication apps.

They believe that the other person hacked in to their Chromebook and messed with their accounts - - Google and Amazon specifically. I couldn't help because I couldn't see what they saw on their screen. I appreciate your prompt response!
Well! I have just been had. Windows invaded my Chromebook and wanted me to call somewhere to pay to be freed. I had to turn off my Chroebook 3 x before I could resume working.

Hi Daniel. Good job Thanks for the video but I know my chromebooks are hacked. First powerwash I feel could be compromised and faked not doing what it is supposed to do. Questions: 1) Is there a way to extract a firmware file copy of your firmware an checked against hash published to check its integrity? In the past when you did a powerwash you could check if you wanted to change the firmware, now this is missing
Yes, i believe every time a Chromebook boots from a powerwash, it checks the firmware. Also, since all Chromebooks come with firmware that implemented verified boot and do not allow changes done to them. The Chrome OS is very secure. If you feel that you were hacked, please change your Google password. as it is more possible that your account was hacked.

Could being signed into multiple gmail accounts in addition to my primary cause issues? I went to cut on my chromebook to find my accounts were logged off. Never had any issue before. Any idea what this could be? I’d really appreciate your input.
I’ve never reset, powerwashed or anything like that. I did have a tendency to just shut the laptop when I finished doing what I was doing. I hardly ever locked the screen then shut it down manually. I always wondered why it would make me restore my chrome sessions afterward. Needless to say...I no longer do that anymore. I’m still rather new to chromebooks-any advice/recommendations would be helpful. Thanks!

I can't sign in and every time I add in my internet password it automatically fills is something completely different. It goes back and forth between the white screen with the chrome symbol and the sign in. I even tried the wash thing where you clicked the settings by the clock and it doesn't even show up. All because I got curious about Omegle! I was on it for two minutes and didn't care for it so I existed out. Now I can't get in at all!

Close that page, if you have not done so already. Chromebooks do not get viruses, and none have been 'hacked' by any web site, according to the web security news sites, I read. What may have happened was you landed on a web site that made it looked like you were hacked so that they could fool you into giving them information about yourself or payment info. I made a few videos on CBs after their AUE dates. They are still good after those dates, as bugs cannot be installed into the Chrome OS by its very design.

One more thing. While I was doing research on the system viewer last week,I went through a sit ecalled Bugs Chromium. Do you know anything about this site? Can I get hacked by it? Or is it safe? Cause when I went to it, it had a closed padlock meaning my data is encrypted, but when i went to the chrome browser settings and went to the site settings part of privacy and security, it said that the site was http instead of https. After that i cleared all my data in that site after, including the cookies. Will i be safe or i am on risk???
To see if any site is safe, Google Safe Browsing is a good place to start. Type in this URL google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site= followed by the site you want to check, such as bugs.chromium.org/ or any IP address. It will let you know if it has hosted malware in the past 90 days. Another similar service is www.urlvoid.com/
