Never dawned on me to use a Laptop Charger as a Converter, but that's actually a genius idea! Been slamming my head against the wall trying to think of a simple solution that doesn't require me ordering a bunch of gear etc... This looks like it might be it! Thanks a bunch!!! xx

I saw another video who used a 250v inverter and connected it to Anderson plug 30 amp.

Very nice! thanks for the demo...i'm going to build up a small portable deep cycle battery box and use that to power my diesel heater. Great video!

Thanks. My heater was dying on startup cuz my power bank only puts out 10amps on DC, even though it's a 1kw unit. Bought a converter. Thanks for the video!

Great idea on the power brick. Just what I was thinking. I have some old laptop bricks, will these work, and any cautions to worry about. Nice vid btw.

check your heater's manual for how many Amps it needs.. It'll require a LOT more the first minute or two for the Spark plug to heat up, your manual should tell you! Mine is an 8KW heater, and the manual says it'll need 15A
@jerrysetlerr770

So you have to just cut off the female socket on cord and wire heater to striped ends on the dc side ?

So any power bank that can output 150w should be good enough to get the heater through the power hungry consumption phase?

Great video, thank you for posting this! Would the laptop power adapter with specs below work for my 5kW heater? Input: 100-240V~2.5A 50/60Hz Output: 19.5V -- 9.23A (Max 180W)

This was cool to see. Once it runs awhile and is running hot, can you turn it off and switch it to a DC source? Will it still need over 120w to heat the glow plugs at that point?
@ii1825
@ii1825 6 месяцев назад
That will not work. These heaters are not supposed to be turned off. They have to go through a shut down procedure that draws as much current to shut down as it does to turn on. This procedure lets the heater burn off the soot before it is turned off. So it will draw the same current to start every time. I've thought about this too much myself. The only way this will work is if you can have it switch from AC to DC output on the power station without turning the heater off and I haven't figure out a way to do that yet.

How is it wired up
@dangeroustoman
@dangeroustoman 11 месяцев назад
Just make sure it goes through its shut down procedure and not just shut off. If it does it will cook the motor if it happens more than once.

So 12v 10amp isn't enough? I bought the same power supply but with a 12v cigarette lighter adapter and it's 10amp. And I'm getting E -2 error not enough voltage.

Make sure that is well ventilated because those things tend to produce a lot of Carbon Monoxide.
@tomasviane3844
@tomasviane3844 6 месяцев назад
No, they don't produce a lot. Have a look at the videos of 'Lowered Expectations'. He experiments with it in his garage with a portable CO-meter and it doesn't go above alarming levels. Not saying that you should run it like this (it's experiments) but the 'a lot of CO' isn't factual.

I think the difference is that this blows dry air into the room, while with a kerosene heater you will get dampness inside (unless there is an exhaust on the kerosene heater?)
