I love my Waymos in Phoenix! I’ve taken a dozen trips or so and am always impressed with how well it navigates the streets - many with no lane markings - and unique traffic situations that usually perplex humans. I watched your video because of the title, but didn’t really learn how far Waymo can “see,” but I did learn about the “cloudy” area on the screen, so that is a partial answer. So I looked it up and the short answer is it can see about 300 meters with lidar, and can read street signs over 500 meters away with the cameras. I’m loving the automation and when people were complaining for two years while Waymo was out mapping our city so intricately with humans and their vehicles, I felt like they covered every inch of road in this city ten times over. You can never have enough data if you’re going to let AI take the wheel. Thank you for the video!

Thank you for watching and for the valuable feedback! Usually I title these ride along videos with the most interesting part, so apologies if I didn't really answer the question too well. I'm considering making a more in depth video (that isn't a ride along) about the various sensors around a Waymo and how it works - this may answer your question in more detail! Let me know if it's something you'd be interested in watching. I'll be heading out to Phoenix soon so I'll get to compare the driving to my usual LA drives! It's especially complex in the crazy LA streets, I have a bunch of footage ready to edit with some super interesting situations. I'll also pin your comment so others can learn the information you shared! Thank you again for watching!

The slowdowns for possible hidden pedestrians are nice to see. That's a smart defensive driving trick.

Those twisty roads make me nervous that someone will come flying over the line. Great ride and video

I think robodriver did a great job as for speeds at LA Union Station, you'll never know an unexpected events when people are walking about, including exiting the station
