Training my paddling technique in a Gumotex Rush 1 inflatable kayak. It's still possible even with a kayak this wide (but with some compromises).
My first update on my paddling technique this year - state for Spring 2023.
I made this video to see how well (or rather how bad) I'm doing and to spot as many errors and areas for improvement as possible. Everything you see here is self taught and trained. Everything of course is work in progress. It's far from perfect and it will take time to hone.
Errors identified:
- Catch frame overstretched to the sides due to kayak's width
- Still too little torso rotation and too much arm movement.
- Paddle blades are not always fully submerged - loss of paddling power - this time it might be caused by kayak's width.
- Right paddle strokes weaker.
Corrected since Autumn 2022:
- Positioning of top arm and bottom arm has finally stabilized and is not chaotic anymore.
- Paddling in an active position.
Can you see anything else?
If you're a sprint instructor or a sprinter watching this video, I'd like to hear from you what needs improvement (aside from things I managed to identify on my own).
Thanks for being with me,
Tom
Let's go paddling!
