"GLOW" is a Trust Vector Control (TVC) model rocket weighing only 237g.
It is built with a custom STM32-based flight computer that I designed and a few 3D-printed components.
It also features an original parachute system design.
You can find some shared materials related to this project in the github repo

Well done! I love the ingenuity behind designing around smaller motors, as well as the spring loaded parachute mechanism.

Exelente trabalho! 😃

@Positive_Altitude 10 месяцев назад
Thanks! I found STM32 very feature rich and having an excellent documentation/tools/community support. So everything controller-specific like working with peripherals, timers, etc was very straightforward -- very good hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and easy to find examples/tutorials how to use it. Let me know if there is something specific you would like to learn :)

Have you looked at the CG and CP positions in relation to the front end of your design? Instaility may arise when CP is sitting over CG or is behind CG point.
@Positive_Altitude
@Positive_Altitude 6 месяцев назад
The CG is slightly behind the CP, so yeah the rocket has no stability at all. You can see that it instantly starts spinning when the motor burns out. But it is meant to be unstable.

Congratulations on your parachute ejection system but (as you point out) there is a better way....hint...look at the Space Shuttle...respond to me for details

As I understand it, it's *impossible to control rotation along the longitudinal axis of a single motor.* So there's a *gyroscopic moment* in the rocket that you can't control with this model, which affects the rocket's ability to rotate along other axes and its stability. To remedy this problem, I recommend using *three motors of equal power, combined in parallel on a circle around the longitudinal axis of the rocket.* Two motors would be the minimum, but would give a planar symmetry that wouldn't match the rocket's axial symmetry very well.
@Positive_Altitude
@Positive_Altitude 9 месяцев назад
That's true. This rocket was built with the hope that "it probably will not get too much roll speed". A proper rocket should have some roll-control for sure. But using more motors was a huge complication. A much more complex TVC system, control algorithm, simultaneous lighting of several motors etc. I will definitely try a two-motor model with roll-control in future since I have more experience now.

I like designing flight computers and the internal electronics inside, how shall I proceed forward?
@Positive_Altitude
@Positive_Altitude 10 месяцев назад
1) Check Phil's Lab channel, I learned watching his old videos where he designs for STM32 with KiCad. He explains every step really well. 2) Read datasheets for electronic components -- in many cases there are instructions how to use them. 3) If you don't know how to design something special - try to find some reference on the Internet and learn from that example. It's not really a hard thing to do, just go for it! Let me know if you have more questions :)

Will you make the electronics or the software open source ?
@Positive_Altitude
@Positive_Altitude 10 месяцев назад
I am not planning to, because they have so many problems and everything is not documented. So I think it is a bad material to use/learn from. But I am working on the new rocket that will be 100% open source. Let me know if you still think you need software/electronics for that project, I can give it to you.

Can you share the stm32f722xx source code please?
@Positive_Altitude
@Positive_Altitude 10 месяцев назад
Well, I can. But the problem is that code is quite complicated technically. It is built with STM32_HAL using FreeRTOS, DMA, interrupts, and some ProtoBuf encoding. And everything is very dirty and poorly structured. So I think it is quite unreadable. And I am not going to put more effort into it because I started using Rust language for my other projects and not going to use C anymore :). So, let me know if you are still interested and I will share it as it is. Also, let me know what you want to learn from it, maybe I will cover it in future videos!
