I was always told that the reasoning behind the rule for Muslim women is because non Muslim men can't guarantee a Muslim women the same rights. This includes property divisions, divorce, custody rules, alimony, and other rights outside of marriage.

A Muslim man can marry a Christian or Jewish woman as long as she's chaste, but vice versa is not permitted.

Hi there guys. I'm a born Muslim with Christian roots through my mother, my grandmother was a born "Moravian/Dutch Reformed" Christian who coverted to Islam when she married my grandfather. She was from the country side and he a city guy. They met when my grandmother seeked employment in the city. She willingly converted to Islam because the dress code for women in their church was kinda similar to Islamic dress code for women. For example there heads must be covered, their dresses must be long before they enter the church. She was the only one of her siblings to embrace Islam and Alhamdulilah today some her siblings children and grandchildren embraced Islam. My grandmother passed away about 20 years and Alhamdulilah as a Muslim. Having a husband and wife, one being Muslim and the other being non Muslim will definitely confuse future offspring.

Islam is not only a culture, it's the simplest religion. Doesn't matter if you're white, black, brown or even mixed race. After all we're all the children of Adam and Hawwa (Eve) - the first prophet and man and father of mankind, and the first woman and mother of mankind. What matters is strict monotheism. There are white Muslims, Black Muslims, Brown Muslims across the world. Across all continents - irrespective of race, gender, status, etc. It's the simplest and original faith right from the first man and prophet Adam AS and the mother of mankind Hawwa (Eve) - no idolatry, no image worship, no creation worship, etc. Worship is only for Allah (God). It's simple to understand. Muslims might or might not be perfect, but Islam is perfect.

As a muslim man, we are discouraged to marry outside out faith even though it is allowed for man to marry woman from people of the book i.e Christian and Jews. It binds the community together even though it is allowed to marry people of the book. Marriage is not between simply about two adult but an union between families. This is to avoid conflict. However marriage between convert women to her non muslim husband is recognized in Islam as marriage took place before her conversion.

QS 2:221: Do not marry polytheistic women until they believe; for a believing slave-woman is better than a free polytheist, even though she may look pleasant to you QS 60:10: O believers! When the believing women come to you as emigrants,1 test their intentions-their faith is best known to Allah-and if you find them to be believers, then do not send them back to the disbelievers. These ˹women˺ are not lawful ˹wives˺ for the disbelievers, nor are the disbelievers lawful ˹husbands˺ for them. ˹But˺ repay the disbelievers whatever ˹dowries˺ they had paid. And there is no blame on you if you marry these ˹women˺ as long as you pay them their dowries. And do not hold on to marriage with polytheistic women.2 ˹But˺ demand ˹repayment of˺ whatever ˹dowries˺ you had paid, and let the disbelievers do the same. That is the judgment of Allah-He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

And Allah explains His verses (commands) to men so that they may learn." (al-Baqarah/2:221)

When u understand Islam is not a new religion and has been around since time immemorial, And if u accept Allah is the Lord of the worlds, then u would be able to understand why Allah does not allow joining partners, associating other parties with Allah regardless of excuse or reason. Allah does not allow marrying a mushik or mushrika, ( Shirk people) All prophets of Allah start from Adam, Enoch, Noah, Ibrahim, Jacob, Moses, Jesus and the final prophet & Messenger of Allah Muhammad were all Muslims. 140000 prophets & messengers of Allah. May Allah’s peace, blessings be upon them all. When God is the same, it is logical to believe religion from God to be the same, which is Islam. What Islam means is submission, surrender, obedience, sincerity & peace, and this is what we all need.

If a person is a true servant of Allah and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is his guide in life, he will think 1000 times about marrying a non-Muslim. His love for Allah and the prophet of Allah will not be displaced by the temptations that come his way. In our country Indonesia, interfaith marriages are prohibited by the government because they cause many internal family and external social problems in the country. Imagine you are a Muslim who worships Allah, the only God who has the right to be worshipped (Tawhid) and forbids associating Him with anything because it is shirk, a sin that will not be forgiven until the person repents properly and then your spouse is a person who worships other than Allah by saying that this person is a god, how will you handle your faith and your heart? How will it affect your children? Parents have a huge responsibility in educating their children to the right path of Tawheed. You wouldn't plunge your children into hell, would you? This is one of the reasons why Muslims are forbidden to marry non-Muslims, for their own happiness in this world and the hereafter. In the Qur'an Muslim men are allowed to marry women of the Book who are pure (i.e. women whose faith is still pure, that there is only one God and no other, namely Allah). The question is, are there any women of the Book left in our time who are like that? May Allah watch over us and ease our affairs in this world and the next. Wallahu a'lam bi showab. A muslim can marry REAL christian and Jews (not IDOLATER who worships IDOL of jesus or mary) who obeys the commandment of Jesus/Moses which are common in Islam. Like fasting, avoiding fornication, alcohol, being just etc.
