I say no, but welcome your comments below. Chapter markers below. This is just a quick swap of some common ruger 10-22 parts and then a simple ammo comparison at 50 yards to see what kind of results we get for the money. Can you buy an accurate and competitive Ruger 10-22 or should you save up and buy custom from the start? Precision rifle shooting.

They can be, _if_ you find the right ammo and do a little trick called "torque tuning" on the action/takedown screw. That screw is the biggest Achilles Heel of the 10/22, because there's only ONE without a second one in the rear of the action! It creates a pivot point that alters your barrel harmonics/accuracy. They make kits to drill and tap a rear action screw, but that can be tricky too. Instead... take that Wheeler fat wrench and try shooting groups @ 10,20 and 30 inch pounds on that screw and you'll be _surprised_ at your differences in group sizes! Then try going back again and split the difference which torque direction it shot better, either 15 or 25 inch pounds and shoot groups again.👍

I've noticed this to make a huge difference in grouping size with mine. I found my sweet spot to be 14inlbs, and even as little as a full inch pound higher or lower makes a difference.

Victor Company's stock for the 10/22 has the ability to apply pressure to the tang. And they have a kit that basically stabs the rear of the receiver to remove that pivot from the solo action screw.

I’ve got an X ring receiver and barrel I built using a 2stage Kidd and the KRG bravo with full length arca rail and tripod mini spigot. Using an arken ep5 5-25x56 scope and it’s an absolute dream to shoot. I love stretching it out. It’s a great setup for sure. I also got the bravo butt pad and it’s very much worth buying
@erich9111
@erich9111 Год назад
Your problem is likely the action sliding around in the chassis. KRG makes an excellent product, but the 1022 either needs some extra hacks to lock it down, or a softer stock material to dig into.

My 22lr competiting started with a rigger 10/22. I had over 1,000 into that rifle only thing left that was rugger was the receiver. Everything was Kidds inovation. I held my own comps believe or not (i didnt know a whole lot about nrl22 but i hought an nrl 22 target setup etc). After about 2 comps shooting eley i ditch the rugger and bought a rimx. In my opinion a semi out rimfire will never be able to keep up with most decent factory bolt action 22lr rifle. 10/22s have their place but it's not in comps with 1inch targets at 100 yards etc.

One of my favourite bits of design selection is the times companies decide to use larger screws and match all/most of the screws across all of an item so you can use a very limited selection to do everything ! The bits of kit that have dozens of small screws are a major pain

Send that barreled action with trigger to Randy at CPC. For $250 he cut my groups in half even Aguila super extra ammo shoots better then what I saw there. With CCI standard it shoots 10 shot 1/2” groups and 3/8” with green tag at 50yrds wearing a 3-9x scope nothing fancy. The gun isn’t picky at all it eats everything still. No parts get put in a box never to be used, he is a outstanding gunsmith that makes factory 10/22’s competitive for silhouette or whatever. Best money I’ve ever spent on a gun and got it back in less than a month too. I like the stock the gun needs some fine tuning is all. Cheers

Try the 10/22 custom shop. Shoots under half inch groups at 50 all day. Did the KYL rack at 50. 8 shots, 8 hits, last one 1/4 inch. So, yes, 10/22 with a good trigger shoots very well. SK long range.

Interesting video for sure. I will add that I've shot Federal Gold Match (through some old Marlin 80DL Bolt Action Rifles (that were made back when there were no Serial Numbers put on these firearms), and I've had very good results from it... At the end of the day it really does come down to what your firearm likes (ammo wise) - but that's a given with all firearms... Great video, and thanks for putting it together! If anyone is interested in saving time and money building up a 10/22, order yourself a Kidd Innovations barrel and trigger, then drop it into a Victor Titan stock. I played with one of my 10/22's for ages, adding all sorts of different combinations. Once i found the combinations i liked, i duplicated the setup on my second 10/22, and as expected i yielded similar results. Now both of my 10/22's shoot dime size groups at 50yrds and they arent finicky about ammo, just an impact shift when switching between brands that are good, like CCI. Even Federal Automatch shot very well. I will agree with you about the Federal premium gold match, it's a terrible investment.

Two things-1 Fed GM Match does suck. 2 because you’re “not committed to the process” you’re ammo group info is worthless. You don’t need to scrub the bore but you do need to run at least ten rounds when you switch ammo or you’re wasting your time even looking at the groups.

The ultimates section of the Rimfire Central forum has many examples of 10/22 rifles that can shoot near 1/4" groups at 100 yards off a bench. You just have to bring the gun up to spec and get an accurate barrel. The brand of the barrel is less important that the qualities of the individual barrel. It's easier with a bolt gun but you can do it with a modified 10/22 if a shooter does his part.

I have competed against high end Anschutz, and other custom bolt guns and own some my self BR comp shooting buy I have won many matches with a 10/22 With a quality match barrel, trigger in a proper stock, Barrel Tunner with bloop tube and a rock solid tourney rest a good 10/22 will surprise you. If you do not know how to properly setup and tune one then they are average shooters. And not all barrels are created equal. Also shooting match quality ammo is a MUST for someone serious. I have 3 Match 10/22s and have one that just will outshoot my Begara and Anschutz consistently. Why that 1 its the barrel.All things the same swap barrels then both my Anshutz and Begara will smoke it. It has a SS Snake Fluted Volquartsen and its the only one out of three 10/22 all will Volquartsens that finds a hamony shooting Eley match ammo and shines.

The factory barrels aren't bad. Hammer forged on a mandrel, they can be pretty good. Generally have to get pretty spend-y to beat them. There is A LOT of paid review marketing telling us a barrel swap is the first thing to do. So you might find my opinion in the minority. But proper bedding is more important. Bedding can turn a dog into a real shooter even in the factory wood stock. A pencil barrel might look out of place in a chassis though.

The reason 22 target rifles are bolt/single shot is the bolt thrust when fired is consistent. A semi-auto recoils to work the action-it is not 100% consistent in recoil/movement of the bolt----using green tag cci helps as the ignition is more consistent, but is not a miracle maker-the fact is most people cannot shoot well enough to reach the full potential of the rifle-Buy a true target rifle and be amazed-shoot the eye out of a fly.

To the right of the garage door, there is an American Flag, wadded up, and left leaning against the edge of the door. Several times later, from 0:58 to 7:33, we again see the American Flag in that position. I also want to say, that particular detail should matter to you. I hope it does. I hope you'll do better next time you take an American Flag down, at your residence.

If you want accuracy I would suggest pulling that suppressor off. they collect carbon and when you carry the rifle with the muzzle pointed up, carbon can fall back down into the bore and effect accuracy. If you are trying to mess with barrel harmonics then get a barrel tuner.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork fire it from a fixture and see what you get. I've got a new hack I'm trying out: I'm putting polymer clay in a rear bag so I can lay it on the bench, squeeze it up and it'll hold its shape far better than sand. Not sure how it will work and it is 2 lb but I want to see if I can get something better than a rear bag that's commercially available or just a plain old sandbag. Polymer clay stays ductile until you heat it to 280°. Also, I might be looking at a new stock for my 5.56 ranch rifle. While I don't mind the stock it has, I need a way better platform for the barreling action. Nonetheless, I'm shooting one and a half inches at 100 yd with that, as well! Lots of good comments here. Very true about optimizing the action screw torque. -- I have a 1995 10/22 Target with the original hammer-forged barrel and its nice wood stock. Rather heavy. I had the Ruger bolt redone by CPC (Connecticut Precision Chambering), and installed the Kidd recoil spring and guide rod and the Kidd "Trigger Job" drop-in trigger kit. So for the gun + about $180 I have a 0.5 MOA gun at 100 yards. No kidding, pardon the pun. ;-) Shot two 5-shot groups at 100 yards with SK Pistol Match Special. First group was .70". Second was .50". Decided to not shoot any more groups as I was ecstatic with that result. This 10/22 humiliates all my bolt-action 22s, including two nice CZs. -- Strongly recommend you send your barreled action to CPC for the full tuneup. Bolt, trigger and barrel. THE best bang-for-buck in 10/22 improvement, IMO. You will love the improvement. Also IMO, what stock the action is in is the last consideration, to be done after all other mods are made. BTW the scope on the 10/22 for the above two groups was a $60 Chinese scope off Amazon, set at 24X. I used a cheap bipod and a rear bag.

I really want a Volqortzen but not really in budget. It would be a fun project and a nice addition to my customized Savage Mk2. And I'm glad I'm not the only one GMM shoots like crap for. No 1st hand experience with the Brownell's action, but on all the 10/22 forums I've been in over the years I haven't heard a single bad thing about them, they're a solid choice for a top notch action. As far as the Volquartsen barrels go though, IMHO they tend to be kinda overrated. _IF_ you can even find one in stock, the best shooting barrels I've seen for the money are from Green Mountain. Their 20" .920 blued bull barrels with a 1:16 twist shoot lights out (as in dime size groups at 50y) and are only about $150. They even have a crazy 28" long 10/22 bull barrel that shoots even better, but you'd want to have the stock glass bedded including the entire barrel channel too so you don't get "barrel droop". It's so long that it makes subs shoot almost as quiet as with a suppressor, great for a squirrel rifle. The "blued" barrels specifically last longer than the stainless ones too, as stainless has "softer" chromium added into the steel alloy so the rifling is harder and stays sharper longer in the blued carbon steel barrels. Whistle pig and E.R. Shaw also make some pretty awesome barrels but Green Mountain is what I've seen shoot best.

@macgyver5108

@@bmstylee it's a fairly straightforward process. You just need to find a local FFL/gun shop that will to "transfers" ahead of ordering from Brownell's and enter that FFL's number on the order info page. Not all FFL's do transfers and some places charge more than others too, so call a few local dealers and ask what they charge! I forget how much my last transfer was, like $30? Some charge a lot more than that so I'd shop around. After you pick an FFL, drop by that dealer and they'll help get things rolling.
