Ethan visits his own land -- "Bear Island" -- to introduce us to "Red," his 1981 Timberjack 230E cable skidder. In this video, Ethan shares the basics of how a Timberjack cable skidder works, why Red is such an amazing tool, and how he uses Red as a tool of restoration at Bear Island.

You’re a master with a saw! I see that sweet dozer back there too! When do we get to see your face? I feel like I’m watching tool time and you’re Wilson the neighbor. 😂. I love the channel and you also got me hooked on those tsumara bars! Keep it up buddy.

I run a 1966 tree farmer with a 353 detroit on my channel, it is a beast. Great machine you have there, one suggestion....buy a seat belt, its a pain but if that machine rolls you will get beat up bad in the cab, I am constantly on hills so its top of mind for me. Great video, I am doing mitigation on my land, as it is 50-100years past due, it is a wall of a forrest, so I had a local forrester mark out the first 2 acres of what needed to be removed, so I could better understand it, and now I have to do w acres each year...basically forever. Check out a video if you have the chance

That's not the original transmission in that 230 ! 😂 Never made a decent living using a forester. But you seem to have a great outlook on how it should be done.

A cable skidder and a grapple crane is not something you see every day. That equipment is ancient. Most loggers now days use grapple skidders and knuckle boom loaders.

Do not use first gear when winching! That will create costly damage.

What’s damage does it do? Just curious
@bernardfrith9641
@bernardfrith9641 7 месяцев назад
It will either tear your transfer case up or inside your winch depending on how hard your getting after it. There is a brass gear that generally fails first by design to prevent much more damage.

@@bernardfrith9641 what gear would you suggest winching in with? I’ve winched in only in first gear with mine for the past couple years I’ve had it and running daily and it hasn’t caused any damaged was why I wonder. I’d rather not break something

I'll ask the question the content provider is too polite to ask in answer to your questions. Did you have a fotesyer organize your timber sale? Did you have a forester dictate under what conditions the harvester would opetate? Did you request a bond be posted to ensure the conditions were met? If not, why? Your tone came across to this old logger, forester, and woodlot owner as accusatory even if it wasn't meant in that way. Every timber harvest needs to be supervised by a forester and governed by a contravt or travesties will occur. Not evdry time, but often enough. Plenty of people will tell of the hones harvesters they know, but are you sure the one you allow into your property is one of them? Just sayin'

Hi there! I feel like a lot of your questions are answered in the video if you watch it all the way through. I am a professional forester and in this case also the landowner and the logger on my own land. When I’m working in my professional capacity - not on my own land - I always work with loggers that I trust, signing them to a contract that protects the landowner’s interests and holds them to a high standard. I require insurance and a security deposit (bond), mark every tree to be cut and flag every skid trail that they use. I always recommend that landowners work with a forester.

Ill tell you what hes too polite to say, mind your own business and if you dont like it then move on, not like theres countless atrocities happening to humans and the earth inna whole we got people like you caring about a single man with a single 4 tired machine. Your a goof
