I'm American but lived in Paraguay, South America. It's illegal to import slingshots there. Keep in mind this is a country where people guard their homes and shops with sub-machine guns and there are often armed soldiers on street corners. I don't know why they have slingshot laws but it occurred to me that the ability to silently disable an armed individual could gain you a sub-machine gun.
I have a fishing jig mold and can craft 0.250 , 0.350 and 0.450 lead slingshot balls....I just have to crimp the flue off as no hook and sandpaper a little DEADLY accurate with the best impact ❤ 6:48
From a husband and father of two who lives in a country where home break-ins happen regularly, I imagine using it to dissuade someone on my property from coming in or someone who may already be inside my home. It is also something I know a young child cannot hurt themselves with.
I've defended myself against some empty beer cans. I was also able to discourage a raven from being too noisy once. If I had to defend myself, I would hope to have something more than a slingshot. Yes, I always have a knife, I would hate to have to use it in self-defence. Knowing the laws up here, defending myself would probably get me a prison sentence and my attacker would be treated as a victim.
"One mind any weapon" is a popular Marine Corps martial arts program quote. Use your mind to make anything a weapon. This definitely needs to be factored into self-defense as well. Awesome talk and great video.
Correct, 1 mind any weapon... think of tools, hammer, screwdriver, brick, walking cane, heavy nut on Paracord, fireplace tools, napkin dispenser in a McDonald's
I shot slingshots for about 20 years or more and one would be amazed by the power of these implements. Also, they're very creative weapons, both on their design and ammo. Just to give an example, common hex nuts (of various sizes) make accurate and powerful projectiles. Also glass marbles are to be reckon with. Plus, one can upskill its deployment and there's folks who can draw and load a slingshot very fast.
Another great video. Absolutely an ambush weapon or deterrent. Speed of rel. oad makes it pretty much a 1 shot deal too, so accuracy is paramount unfortunately here in Wales, guns are out, knives are out, tazers are out. Doesn't leave much. Slingshots are legal (for now) and very pocket able. Only been into it a short while, but I wouldn't want a 10mm steel in my face , that's for sure. Keep up the good work amigo.
I like your analysis and how you reflect on your perspective. This is what draws me to your content because you are looking at the pros and cons and the context. I'm learning at the same time and we learn by mistakes. Deep diving and expanding the process. You also look at the big picture for example where most people in a lot of countries cannot own a firearm. A slingshot can be carried with you everywhere and anywhere (just Carry the band's). I know we all like the idea of we get shot and can patch up, but i reckon getting shot with a lead slug from a slingshot most are going straight to emergency 🏥 😂. Serious power.
Yeah, I think with the right band set and some 10mm or bigger lead ammo, a well placed shot is going to do some serious damage. Here in the UK, a lot of people opt for crossbows, but I think the slingshot is highly underrated and has many advantages over bows and it's my ranged weapon of choice.
@@411Outdoors I'm in the UK too I opt for a slingshot/bow and double/triple bladed broadhead arrows for flight and a katana/wakizashi/tanto by hand and I'm also in the process of aquiring my section 2 sgc, Hello Mossberg 590. But you know to protect yourself even in life threatening self defence situations with a deadly weapon, your fucked! And have earnt yourself a one way ticket at her majesties leisure despite the assailants intent. I remember back in the 90's a farmer protecting himself with a double barrel agaisn't home invaders/thieves. I reckon he is still inside. Whatever happened to the proverb "An Englishman's home is his Castle"
I carry one because I don’t want to get close enough to use a knife if at all possible. A 10mm ball in the face will stop most people. And what if there are two or more attackers. Better to take one out from a distance. I practice shooting while retreating as that is the most likely scenario.
I agree with pretty much everything you said about the slingshot as far as self-defense. You might have heard this before I don't know but I think it's slingshot as an offensive weapon and should be using stealth. I like your contact man keep it up
People often confuse "Self defense" with a military or Law enforcement type application, that the average civilian is never going to experience, or have legal grounds, to commit.. Self defense is, stopping a threat from causing harm to you or yours. The Kid proved that his weapon was viable in that case. Is it the ultimate? No weapon is the ultimate,in all applications. If someone feels, they need a Firearm with a Bucket o Bullets and a backup to your backup, then you may want to evaluate your choices, because if you absolutely need that to survive, then your days are numbered regardless of your weapon choice.
Honestly I feel the market for weapons and people’s love for them comes down to the way they view society. Weapons give us a sense of satisfaction when we look at the level of wickedness some men portray. There’s always that one percent chance something may be needed and a lot of people don’t want to come up short if they are part of the 1%. I often stress this as well: Attackers are not always people. Sometimes it’s animals. I personally love weapons. It would suit me well to be armed, like Rambo but live in peace the rest of my life 😂 but I do get what you’re saying. Guns, knives, pummeling objects: I love them all because they do have the attributes to stop wicked men who have no regard for others.
Very good hearing your advice/lecture it is correct what ever you mentioned.in my country Burma , everyone has a sling shot in their house or on the road outside any where. There is a saying that if you don't have a sling shot with you then you are living in space/ in a different planet. Thanks 👍 George Nathan
I've never used one as self defense but i do consider it an option if needed. Not only the shooting but also the actual forks provide an acute area of pressure if used to strike something. If someone hit me say with the handle of Zachary Fowlers Simpleshot Sparrow slingshot, I would back away real quick. That said, a great video could be about how fast and accurate you can get a shot off if someone is approaching you, or what part of the slingshot could be used for hand to hand combat, or the ambush situation someone mentioned. Shoot, even an active shooter situation where the ambush and accuracy aspect would play a huge part. Great topic, man. Thanks for all the good videos!
I carry a steel nut on a loop of 5150 para cord (about the length of a man's forearm)as a backup's backup. Almost anything can be used as selfdefense. I saw a wrist rocket at my local sporting goods store for a fair price and plan to pick it up when I get my next paycheck. Thanks so much for your hard work. Your channel continues to impress and inspire.
I have the snipersling maverick. Not only am i certain that in the ideal situation would it stop 1 maybe 2 aggressors at range from wanting to continue, but- its all titanium frame comes to a mean point at the butt of the handle, and could definitely serve as a defensive tool if an aggressor was to close the gap
I accidentaly hit a playmate with a slingshot in the face when i was a kid , close range about 4-5 feet, rock ammo. I can still remember the blood in his face. Never touched a slinghshot since then. That proves how dangerous slingshot is.
You've probably seen those slingshot videos. One time there was a guy, according to the man doing the video and he is credible, he knows someone who can hit prairie dogs at 50 yrds, impressive. I agree with you, Daniel, most attacks in a self-defense situation are going to be close or going to get close and as you said, a knife is paramount. I wouldn't recommend anyone using a slingshot as their go-to for self-defense either but it can be used if you have nothing else. I would "Not" want to get hit with a slingshot. A slingshot with the right setup would probably do more damage than the Byrna or other CO2 guns but realistically in a life or death situation most people would panic and miss their target and you only have one chance; the assailant may take off or get pissed and then it's on like Donkey Kong. 🤕
im just saying.. imagine you are the one with the gun or maybe even just a machete looking for people... you walk around a corner and someone was ready and slingshots a steel/lead/clay/rock/marble/fishing weight/ steel nut/ ball bearing etc.. into your chest or face.. its less likely or unlikely that you will die... but its also less likely you'll just eat that shot. its not a Glock.. but if things went south in a moment id pick it up with a good knife or blunt object
Can you do a video on the SlingBow? Using an arrow instead of a ball. There’s a lot of videos, but I would like to hear your opinion. Love your videos , getting ready to purchase my first tracker knife.
At the end of the day I think just about any tool or object can be used in self defense. Anyone who disagrees needs to take a look at modern prisons. They kill eachother with sharpened toothbrushes and spoons. However every weapon or tool has its pros and cons. It all comes down to the situation. I agree that slingshots are viable in self defense. Great Video and explanation. ✊
Good questions to ask, not if but when and why. In the early 60s I shot my brother with an acorn on my 19 cent sling shot and knocked him down. Hit him in the temple and he had bad headaches. I still remember it and regret this stupidity on my part. Good points to ponder here.
YES you can , the slingshot can use for long range deterrent and for short range, you must have a steel body slingshot i have titanium body slingshot and have pointed point on handle and its heavy , smashing it on person can deliver heavy punch even death blow on the head ^_^
Against animals, yes I have defended myself. One black bear and a whole mess of sea lions. The bear wasn't really a threat, he just wasn't welcome in the yard. A 3/8th steely got him moving pretty quick. The sea lions scared the crap out of me. A 16 foot boat, stalled motor and about a dozen curious sea lions coming towards us. Just one of them weighed enough to send the boat to the bottom. I was using a wrist rocket and never did land a hit, one marble splashed down close enough to the lead animal to make him turn and the rest followed.
Would a sling-bow have a different answer? Probably harder to conceal, and probably harder to load quickly (though I could be wrong). An arrow will probably do quite a bit of damage. After all; I’ve seen sling-bows used to hunt deer. Any thoughts?
The Simpleshot Hammer is one the best slingshots for a weapon in my opinion. The ability to quickly change heads making it a lead shooter, to a dart shooter and slingbow separates it from other slingshots for it's capabilities. I consider a slingshot as a self defense tool as having a good jab, you need to have something else behind it. As I've told you before I use an otf karambit as a force multiplyer with everything from a slingshot to a handgun.
Slingshot can be used if someone is following you and u feel he's a threat, if close combat i preferred combat stinger, non lethal but better than nothing,
I have had a rebound from a telegraph pole ,got me between the cheek and nose very unpleasant experience. 😂😂😂😁 blood every where. I don't shoot any type of wood now
Slingshots are Lethal. Headshots crush/shatters skulls. I've shopped black bears with a slingshot before. They decided coming after me was not worth the pain. And I only hit the shoulder as it charged me. And I only used Clay balls. Remember, David killed Goliath with a Sling. Less power than modern slingshots.
A 13 year old Michigan boy saved his 8 year old sister from a potential kidnapping using a slingshot. Read in New York post as well our Local news stations.
I keep one handmade sling shot and one little bag with stones near by me....I have bows , crossbow and hundred blades but here in Bulgaria ,, self-defence,, case is so complicated...I ve been in to the jail and i don't care anymore ....I guit to be a victim and all ,, gangsters,, maybe smells that iam loko and don't make me problems... But tomorrow who's knows....
I think a slingshot is a bad choice for defense, it’s more of an assault weapon considering the distance it is effective, It not really legal to shot someone 10ft away and claim defense except for certain senecios,
Fun story(at least I think so). When I was a kid 12-13 we had BB gun fight's as well as sling shot fight's(all for fun for all of us). I (we) grew up in a rural area and one time one of our group climbed a tree so the rest of us could take turn's trying to shoot him out of the tree. Well we did he fell and we argued on who was going to tell his mom that we killed him😂. Well he didn't even get hurt(bruises). Mabey sound's lame now but at the time we had a hell of a great time. BTW this was about 1974-75. And he's still alive and kicken.
