Without any discrimination between secular and religious studies, Islam has considered education as a basic human right. There are many prophetic narrations that shed light on this topic, such as, “Seek knowledge even if you must travel to China for it.” - (Bayhaqī) This stance of Islam regarding education is because, the prosperity of individuals, as well as the human society depends on it. For this reason, Islam has laid this responsibility on the Muslim government to make education accessible to all. In countries where Muslims live under the rule of non-Islamic governments, and face difficulty in having easy access to higher education, they should first turn to Muslim organizations or governments that offer scholarships or islamicaly appropriate financing, for education. If they do not succeed in availing such interest free loans or scholarships, in such situations, muslim jurists have permitted to obtain interest based education loans strictly for education, provided the student has no savings or has no way to obtain an interest free loan. In such a circumstance, the muslim student must make a sincere intention to pay off the loan as soon as possible. This is the resolution passed by the very well-known Islamic fiqh academy in India. Please refer to the document “Fiqh Academy Ke Aham Faisale”. The great jurist, Muftī Khālid Saifullāh Al-Raḥmānī has also written in his monumental work, ‘Jadīd Fiqhī Masāil’, “In a pressing need for basic rights, one may take advantage of an interest based loan, when there is no other alternative, for an islamicaly appropriate loan.” And Allāh Knows Best.

Exactly, everyone doesn’t have to become a doctor to be considered successful. Majority of Muslims taking loans for school are for medical professions (doctor, dentist, lawyer, surgeon) etc.

@@awarem8739 the ummah is heavily segregated rn people don't want to help each other. So you can understand why people want to make money. It's not just Muslims the whole world. I agree people shouldn't aspire to always to follow those professions but the education system isn't helping. And it feels like the government doesn't really support the vulnerable. e.g work a minimum paid job and they still have to pay so many taxes etc.

Or you can take a gap year , work, and then begin your first year with funds in your pocket to pay for it, plus work weekends, holidays to help you contribute towards the 2nd year and 3rd year. You end up saving so much and not having a debt hanging over your head. Also have you considered OPEN UNIVERSITY. The UK one is recognised by many employers, you can work and study. In London they use the King's college, London school of economics campus for weekend tutorials/lectures. It's only £6,500 per annum for a full time course.

But the countries you've mentioned doesn't have any good or top university, doesn't have good employment record. All top unis are in US or UK and they are taking advantage of it by setting abnormal fee structure.

@nycto16 But in Germany it doesn't matter. The employment rate is bad due to the birth rate in our country. We don't have young people anymore. We need more workers. My husband studied engeenierng at our well-known public university, and his wage is very high. What matters in Germany is that you have even a university degree. In most fields, they take almost everyone due to our low employment rate, but our universities have crazy workload and a certain level that needs to be upheld. I also don't know how to explain it to you, but in our country, we don't have Ivy Leagues, and it doesn't matter to Germans. It's also about our qualifications and abilities. In Europe, education is free, and we can make tons of money alhamdulilah.

So, all the people commenting above, here is your answer. If any institution does give a loan than its great. If no one gives, than are you okay to go to hell for eternity for 50-60 years of life. Your jannah should depend on your decision and not on banks decision to give loan. So, you decide, clearly there are tons of example of people being successful without getting into a high rated University

The whole world isnt going to go jannah. Its only the accepted ones that would go. A person's deeds and Allah's mercy would decide if he /she wants to stay with the world or go to jannah

That's actually true. Muhammad was peaceful while in Mecca, and preached religious tolerance and mutual respect for the Quraish. After the Hijra, Muhammad became powerful in Medina and had mean and power. So he waged wars against the Quraish, the Jews and other polytheists. This is history. Your friend is actually correct in his understanding of Islam.

@@saeedahmed1177 We should rightly say that Muhammad spared the lives of *most* of the Quraish (not everyone). A few who were antagonistic to him were actually killed. Second, after conquering mecca, Muhammad banned the Quraish from entering into Kaabah, a holy site for the Quraish for generations. Imagine someone conquering a muslim country today, and banning all muslims from entering their own mosque. That is what Muhammad did to Quraish. Thirdly, he did not extend any mercy after conquering the Jewish tribes of Bani Israel in Medina. Captured men were always slaughtered, and women were taken as slaves by Muhammad and his Sahabha. So please stop whitewashing history and stick to your own Seerah and what it says about Muhammad.

Don't obey the creation in disobedience to the creator. I'm sure if you leave something haram for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with something better. Maybe not going to uni will make you work hard doing a part job or starting a business and Allah will give you from means you never imagined.

That's okay. Because Islamic banks also charge interest, but they don't call it interest or riba. They simply call it profit or rent. Moreover, since most Islamic banks are small and unregulated, you will actually end-up paying more (usually 2-3% higher) than the conventional banks.

Agreed completely. I reread all the surahs in the Quran that mention Riba, and they all condemn the LOANERS not the people BORROWING. God warns the banks and LOANERS to forgive interest and not deal in that way, but does not say a person can not take a debt if they are in a tight spot. Allah knows best.

Then don't go to university. Honest work that is halal is better than prestigious work that is Haram. If you are a believer, you know that Allah will provide a way for you. Do not be among the losers on the day of judgement because your pride told you to go to university through using haram means. You said: "Lol basically if you are Muslim then I guess we shouldn’t become anything and stay illiterates and just forget about our careers because it has interest on student loans". Does not going to university make you illiterate? No. My brother/sister the evidence is clear. RIBA = HARAM = STUDENT LOANS WITH INTEREST. Don't ascribe context to the Quranic verses that are not authentic, this is very dangerous. Also there are ways, you have to look for them and have tawakul (trust in Allah). For example many UK students go to Bulgaria for Medicine as the entry requirements are lower as are the tuition fees (lower $$$). If you are set on going to university, then delay your application so you can pay for it using halal means. Before you go, get a job for a few years until you can afford it, although for an American this is hard and going abroad would be better. If you still take a student loan after all the evidence from this sheikh and many many more who all say the same thing using the Quran and Hadith that say clearly it is HARAM. Then at least do not deny it is haram and know you are heavily sinful. If you believe in Allah and make the effort to find different ways to your career path without haram money then Allah will provide you a way. And Allah knows best. May Allah guide you and me on our respective journeys. Ameen. Again please be careful with what you say. Don't get angry at Islam for Riba, be angry with the evil western system of making almost everything use Riba.

if you want to deny it than thats your choice but if you want to continue following the religion than you need to understand that interest in any way is haram no matter the position you are in because you can avoid it. These so called mullas are nothing, follow the ways of the people who were closer to The Messenger of Allah (SAW). And they lived to deny riba at any cost.
