That mono blue player spamming 'oops' is pretty indicative of every mono blue player I've come across. They truly had the skill to beat an opponent with no mana.
Who else plays Haughty Djinn still? It's nothing but matchup fishing and hoping your opponent plays no threats or interaction (because the moment you move from Plan A, you lose). Same as mono-red, but the games are longer so the players think they are more big-brained even though it's not a particularly good strategy, it just takes no effort ot skill and win percentage doesn't matter if you keep playing enough games. A lot of mono-red players are impatient ot just don't care about anything but low-effort wins as fast as possible, but Djinn players are just... Idiots... Ignorant to how the game actually works and attributing everything they can think of to their own smarts and talent, it's embarassing.
50:30 if they attacked with more than 1 creature then they would have to draw off the wedding announcement and probably lose the game due to your Sheoldred!
I'd enjoy seeing some BO3 - since sideboarding adds an extra layer of decision making, it would give more opportunities to discuss your thought process, something you already do quite well when confronted with situations that have multiple lines of play to consider. You'll also play against mono red less frequently, so it could give the opportunity to showcase some greedier brews that don't quite make the cut in BO1.

I love the intros and play by plays and why you do something a certain way. A couple BO3's thrown in would be greatly appreciated to hear / see your thought process for side boarding after match 1. As always great content!

I think a sleeper card for this deck is Likeness Looter, has the same "Tap this: Draw, then discard" as Rona, but has the ability to "Pay X: turn into a copy of a creature in your graveyard with mana value X, except is has flying and this ability". Which I think works pretty well with keeping Raffine and Shelly on the board for this. I would replace mastermind if it were my choice.
Played 15 games with this deck. Won 13. Small sample size, obviously, but it definitely feels like it plays itself sometimes. Turns out two drops into Raffine into Sheoldred is still pretty damn strong.
YA thats what they say about my Ashiok wicked mill deck that you need tons of creature removal but I have like just one in the deck and three attack bounce whales and I ate mono red for first AND second breakfast while on Weathertop cooking crispy bacon!
The client crashes so often i never assume someone is roping, especially at the beginning of a round like that. It takes that long just to start it back up and requeue.
that draft token glitch came at the perfect time, i got to see the top 8 at worlds and craft my own esper midrange with the wildcards i got from all the draft rewards
I've learned to expect sunfall in every deck with white. Because it even if your wiping your own board, it gives you a wincon back in the incubate token. So even if your board is weaker it doesn't matter. I personally want to see sunfall banned, but it might have something to do with the fact I get sunfalled 2 to 3 times every game because matchmaker force feeds me only decks with sunfall. I don't think I've seen motored once in the last 4 days.
At 37:37 against mono red - you were at 4 life. If you had played out your pain land first, you could've cast Sheoldred and kept up single white mana open for the Eiganjo, so you didn't have to go down to 3 life and died to the Lightning Strike. Small detail but you could've stabilized and won that game.
At 34:36 the opponent cast for free (thanks to "Bloodthirsty Adversary") a "Play with Fire", on Thalia... and they didn't pay the extra mana. What? Am I wrong assuming that they should have paied one more mara?!
The fact that almost the same deck won worlds back to back goes to show that wotc does not care about the state of standard. They postponed rotation and then proceeded to not ban relevant cards that would have rotated anyway like Raffine. I hope they rectify this sooner than later; standard needs to be refreshed beyond adding new sets. *Edit* I completely forgot about the Grixis list, as it was correctly pointed out in the comments, but it doesn't change the sentiment that most of the meta was esper Raffine.
It wasnt the same deck though? Last year's worlds 68% of the field was Esper midrange but the deck that actually won it all was Grixis midrange. With stuff like Fable, Bankbuster and invoke despair. All cards that are banned.
@@clrl936 you are correct, my apologies for misstating that. Nevertheless if you check the top 4, 3 were esper midrange. You would still expect for them to do something about such a powerful deck if they are delaying rotation
Can I just ask why you showed that (irrelevant) concede at 20:06? You were #999 in the match before it and #1069 after...so you must have also lost some games in between that you didn't show, or am I missing something (or editing)?
I would love Bo3 content from you. You are the only Bo1 content I watch. I’m an elitist dick and view Bo1 the way you talk about Mono Red. Win the coin flip and draw well….
I'm here to support the best of one videos. Watching the same match 2 or 3 times is boring, it's the reason why I don't watch the many other content creators out there. A weekly video to look at the bo3 meta and avoid burnout? Sure, but please no more than that.
Feedback: Best of 3? Not really my jam... but if you want to do it I'll surely watch (and learn, and appreciate it). It uses no Digital-Only cards, after all 🤭
I'm a big fan of BO3 content mainly because you get a better variety of decks to play against. BO1 is just too dominated by mono-red so it gets....monotonous lol

"I have Sheoldred I win". Black has had it too easy for way too long. I don't care if it "keeps red aggro in check", you can't play 99% green based deck out there while it exists.
Clearly againt mono red you would sideboard the mastermind s for the 4 cutdowns in a best of 3 match thats the beauty of best of 3 you can shore up againt matches that give you difficulty
Could someone explain me (I know magic a bit, but I play commander) why Thalia is busted? I understand it taxes the opponent (ideally). But is it because it matters that much, if you can only play a certain spell one turn later?
Yeah that one extra turn is sometimes all you need to finish someone off. Like not being able to use depopulate, sunfall, farewell on schedule is kind of a big deal

I don't understand how Thalia is busted - it isn't even that great of a card. Of course, I'm sure I have to be missing something here, but I don't understand why CGB thinks its OP. Also I don't know why mono red let the battles go for as long as they do. If you aren't winning in turn..4-5ish, you aren't winning.
