People didn't panic because they thought prices were too high, people panicked because mortgage assets imploded due to sub-prime assets being stuffed into CDO's rated as low or no-risk investment grade. So when the banks had to repo all those assets, it lowered money supply substantially, flooded the market with housing supply, and crushed the CDO's containing bad MBS's. So of course it would seem that the market was fairly priced, price is not the issue. It was a matter of the credit instruments banks held, the stretched credit for buyers, and the sudden onset of supply through forclosure. Also, the problem Canada is having right now is largely demographic in nature. The Canadian citizens are retiring en masse and there isn't enough nursing for the elderly so they are bringing in a lot of immigrants to fill the age gap and normalize the service costs for senior care. The sudden influx of workers has spiked a demand for housing and they aren't keeping up with supply. You have a couple bottlenecks there, weakening their currency and you have fewer taxpayers as well. And in fact every time you get an injection there is a risk of stroke if they hit a blood vessel, for all the completely unnecessary Botox injections, steroids and peptides. Simple: Hire them at current pay levels for humans, and since they can all live in a big computer, and don’t need retirement monies, or health insurance, or food etc, ALL that money paid can go right towards the Debt!
