I found myself playing RuneTerra and generally browsing more on my laptop from my couch, but the downfall was there was simply no room for a traditional mouse. I had considered a giant lap-pad; however, my main sofa is a recliner and the lap desk would have gotten in the way during my reclined sessions. This is where the Elecom DEFT trackball mouse comes in.
I have been using the mouse off and on for the last week, and I have to say I am thoroughly impressed. I am now able to rest the mouse on the arm of the couch and navigate with ease without moving my hand or the mouse at all. Now, I will warn you... This thing will take some getting used to. For me, my brain simply did not compute the need to keep my hand still until about 15 minutes into my first experience with this mouse. After about 30 minutes, I was flying with this thing. Gaming (Casual), browsing, and video editing are now all possible from the comfort of my couch, or really anywhere I want to be without the need for a large flat surface for typical mouse navigation. There is not really anything I do not like about this mouse, especially given its introductory price point on Amazon.

I LOVE my Elecom Deft Pro. Long time user of the Logitech trackman mouse. Then when I needed a wireless option, I switched to the Elecom Deft but after a few years of heavy usage, it’s not as precise so I upgraded to the Deft Pro and it’s the best trackball I’ve ever used. I also tried the Elecom HUGE, but it was too huge for my hand. I like having the wired and wirelesss options. The wired option is best for no lag and more precise control. As the battery wears down, you do lose some precise timing of the device. It’s no big deal but in my profession it’s essential that I have precise control. Trackball is the only way to go. I can’t use a regular mouse. 😂

Im using right now Elecom Deft M-DT2DR And Im super happy with this mouse. Finally no more pain and ball on the middle is much much better than on the thumbs side like in logitech. Little cons is taking a lot time to make ball move smooth like in the logitech but for me Excellent right now, another minus little more annoying is very hard to click scroll wheel ( middle click) . Next plus are different sizes of this mouse, from small hands to Yeti hands :). Click and scrolling using right thumbs for me is the same fast and much more comfortable.

I currently use the Kensington Orbit Fusion. However, the right mouse button on this trackball bothers me. The scroll wheel works well, but unfortunately it is often operated unintentionally. That's why I've now ordered the Elecom Deft Pro and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for your video.

@@laughingvampire7555 After a short period of getting used to it, I now use both track balls in parallel. Both have advantages and disadvantages and are equivalent for me. However, the buttons on the Kensingten work a bit more reliably. However, my favourite is and remains the ELECOM HUGE M-HT1DRBK.

what about the product quality? is it built well? better quality than the logitech 570, for instance? being an M570 user for decades, I'd like to feel that I'd be stepping up in buying this brand trackball. I, of course would opt for there thumb ball version. Any help please?

I’ve never used the Logitech version myself; however, I can say I’ve been comfortably using this since the release of this video and it’s held up very well

@@qwazyd0gg wow, that was quick; thank you. Since my mouse is becoming scarce and expensive, I'm considering making the leap to today's trackball mice. Sadly my m570 is discontinued. I have to ask; how would you feel about refurbishing 6 of these m570s I've saved over the years? swap parts around and maybe create one or two good ones? I'd tinker with them myself but my eyesight's not what it used to be.

i just ordered the wired version of this mouse. with red ball. had no idea these things was still around. but i have a super small desk and so using a mouse makes it kinda hard as i have to use higher dpi for the short distance. and thought this would work. it's gonna take a bit to get used to i know. but i hope i can get used to it.

@@qwazyd0gg yea i remember them being around in the late 90s and i've sorta been dabling in the linux stuff to. and as my mouse is a little small for my hand iv'e noticed the wear and tear from using it. and was looking a more "ease" on my hands for longer term usage. Also it's supposed to be in the mail today. so im excited. but yea the left click on the side is going to be awkward lol

Ok i got the elecom deft and first minutes. its a light mouse like really light. it fits my hand perfectly right out of the box your going to want to have the software downloaded because its really speedy and touchy i believe it set at 750 dpi with software sense at 6 notches but because you have to use a mouse. you do get semi used to it quickly because your forced to move across the screen Edit: ok one thing i've learned after a few hours. is that unless your just used to a speedy mouse your going to want to pick your dpi and then change your mouse sense My current is the 1500 DPI and notch 2 (from left to right) also try mouse accuracy to help you find and practice with your aim and mouse control remember you might be faster with a traditional mouse but you could become more accurate if you game. with a trackball

i know this comment is old but I've been looking at the Deft pro for awhile. My hands, I would say are quite small do you think the deft pro is viable from your experience? Other suggestions would be great too

I actually just got one of these. It's pretty good, but I do have issues with the ball sticking a little on the vertical. Anyone know how to solve this?

I haven’t used mine since I switched to my MacBook, which has an amazing trackpad which now limits my need for a static trackball mouse. Have you tried taking it apart and cleaning it?

@@qwazyd0gg To a point. I mean, I just got it so I've only really cleaned the ball. It's also been giving me some issues with the function buttons, so I actually think it might be defective.
