Despite the lack of a major on the same scale as recent tournaments such as Double Down and GOML, competitive Smash Ultimate never sleeps and this week was no exception. Weird characters were in abundance at the four high-profile regional events we'll be taking a look at Phantom 2022, Just Roll With It! 2022, Invincible VI, and WANTED S5 C2. Providing us with plenty of new data from Ultimate's less-common picks.

I prefer rooting for reigning champs they have all the pressure to maintain the position. Everyone practices to go against them but the top players might not even know you exist and can't prepare

This greatly depends on who's using said character. Not everyone can play Icies like BigD, and not everyone can play Little Mac like Peanut. Heck, I think every character is viable but not every character is being piloted by the right player. This game is mad balanced but many do not see it that way. They just see "play top tier U ez win" which is mad false. I'm glad this video and a load of newer players are proving that any character can win big.

@@andressuarez2942 Because he's lucky enough to have fought the likes of Fatality and Marss and held his own...at least somewhat. He's not top 8, but Peanut's skill with Little Mac has been proven to at least be pro level. Not top level, and hell, he even admits himself, he's not the best Little Mac. He's just the most popular right now, in my opinion. It helps that he's fun to watch and a fun person generally. A lot of what sways arguments more than anything is bias. Bias is usually dictated by the more stylish or excitable players or characters. It's not logical. Not many smash players are.

I feel that the questions "Can any character win in Smash Ultimate?" and "Is Smash Ultimate well balanced?" are two different things, but people often equate the two. My personal answer to the former would be "yes", but to the latter would be "no". The gap between bottom tier and and top tier is still huge in this game; people's view is just warped by previous titles that had it worse. But a very skilled player can, with some bracket luck, still make it far in a tournament playing a low tier.

@@outlawjoe5447 Running out of resources isn't really a problem when they recharge faster than you can use the rest of your resources. Robin just has so many resources to use that it really doesn't matter with proper resource management.

There were also two Links in top 16 at Seibugeki 11 a few weeks ago, which was a pretty stacked tournament. Rido's loser's run was particularly wild, losing his first set in pools and then winning 10 straight sets to place 5th over some top players.

steve is much newer than 5 characters above him in the charts, and literal 14 and 15 years old kids are winning very consistently with him, the only dlc above him is aegis and while they're newer they've been played way way more because of raw popularity, most of the competitive smashers aren't Minecraft kids

@@noirlavender6409 I don't think you realize that most smash players are 15-25. Esam is one of the oldest players at 29. Something pretty common between people age 15-25 is that they played minecraft growing up. It's no wonder why steve is popular.

@@toowiggly Minecraft reached peak popularity post Microsoft acquisition which was in 2014. Minecraft's target demographic is kids 5-10 so add 8 years to that and that would mean that those original Minecraft kids are now 13-18. Shockingly, most of the people who really like Steve fall into that age group. Point being, even if we assume that most smash fans are 15-25 the early Minecraft kids would still barely overlap it. You're right that Xenoblade is way less popular though, that game is very niche even though it's meant for a casual weeb audience.

Anbil and Remrin are probably the two players you want to keep a look out for if you're looking for Mewtwo results, but both unfortunately underperformed at their recent majors Colossel and GOML respectively.

I’m soo happy I came across this video I always thought Zelda, Lucas, and Bayo were pretty solid and people are not giving these characters enough credit. I’ve been talking about how soo many people sleep on mid tiers for a very long time and nobody listens. Even after seeing results, upsets against top players we’ve all witnessed, nobody still listens! Mkleo’s mid tier main is better than his top tiers. Even Tweek believes Bayo is making her way back up the meta after recently releasing one of his new tweek talk videos.

I wish people would stop solo maining. Maining Mac, Ganon, or any character is fine, but why not use a different character for those 9:1:1 match ups like Ganon Pika, Plant Villager and so on?

Because solo maining is technically the fastest way to improve, having even 2 characters slows the process down quite a lot

Honestly, id say yeah sure. Many people think that ganondorf is the worst character in the game but to be brutally honest, there isnt an insane amount of talent in the ganondorf playerbase compared to others so if someone stepped up who was good as peanut and mained dorf, theyd get results for sure. Peanut has just been convincing people mac isnt bottom 5 because hes good. So yes every character can win but you have to realize that some characters simply need more put into them.

Wrong. Ganondorfs player base had the same folks in it starting out in ultimate that was there in brawl. And most either quick cause of just how bad he is now (worse than 4) or simply cant do anything against a nobody with a better character

Almost but not quite imo. (note this is my opinion before I have watched the video) At a Major level tournament I could see a world where any character above Doc, Ganon, and Mac wins even if it's highly improbable for some of the really low characters like Isabelle and K Rool. At a Super Major level tournament however, I don't see a world where a mid tier or lower wins. This hypothetical mid tier player would likely have to go through more than one or two top players like Leo, Light, Dabuz, Kola, and the Japanese top players depending on how big this tournament is.

Kirby kid has good results with k rool , Mabel with doc , peanut has some big wins with Mac, kept from Japan doin work with isabelle( isabelle kinda nice imo) might be less probable but as time goes by you will see low tier move up to viable

@@Masterlink01 Yeah I was going to mention how if a mid tier or lower wins a super major, then chances are that they were never a mid tier or lower to begin with and that public perception of them will likely change soon after. Also the community (at least the English speaking portion of it) has an issue with roasting people for deviating too far from the popular opinion. Japan doesn't do this as much, and if you want an example of this I'd recommend checking out the video Panda uploaded more recently on the main channel where Esam and Wadi give their thoughts on Hikaru's (top Japanese Roy main) tier list.

His Byleth puts his Pythra, ROB, Lucina, Ike, and Joker to shame. His Byleth is WAY better than any of his "top tier" characters and fetch way more success against players *USING* TOP TIERS. Not everyone is born to main a top tier and it's certainly not THAT easy. I really don't like the mentality that "any character that isn't top tier is worthless" especially since we have a freaking Corrin trashing the best Aegis (Cosmos) every time they meet, and that Corrin isn't even Leo, it's SHADIC.
