As a white dude that listens to rap, I dont say the word, but when you're listening to a song in the background and you aren't really concentrating on any lyrics and you're just mumbling along to the song, sometimes it slips out. It isnt intentional or meant to offend in anyway, but were only human and it's very hard to be able to never say it without concentrating on what you're singing. No harm meant. I dont think people should be cancelled when it slips out because that completely ignores context and the fact that it's extremely hard not never say a word ever, when it's in every song you listen to

Something about restricting the usage of the n-word comes from a deeply rooted victim mentality. If it hurts to hear by other races other than black, it means it has still a lot of power in it. @@nicholasoneal1521 no because white people don't experience systematic oppression (aka racism) solely based on their skin color. white gay men can reclaim the f-slur. white disabled, neurodivergent people can reclaim the r-slur. white women can reclaim the b-slur. white lesbians can reclaim the d-slur. reclamation of a slur can only work on people who are oppressed by the slur. if a certain slur hasn't been used to oppress you (not offend, not annoy, not degrade but OPPRESS), you cannot reclaim that slur. obviously this is my opinion and what i've learned with all the slur reclamation discourse that's been going on for years now. but my general rule of thumb is that if a word was used to oppress a minority (even if i'm part of that minority), i dont use it.

Looking through history, a lot of terms and words, not limited to just racial slurs, changed their meaning, across languages. It is how language evolves. While changing, a word can have 2 meanings, like in this case, where some still use it as a racial slur but in rap it is mostly used like the word "homie" or "dude". While i agree that it should not be used by white people, by continously using it the word wont go away, but changing its meaning might even have a better effect in the long term. I hope one day the word will no longer trigger negative emotions, at least not when used in an absolutely non-aggressive way. For example, what if a white ( or other non-black) guy uses the word to refer to himself? For example, the expression "can a n***a (like can a guy) get a break?" (Not saying this is ok to do, just interested in how people feel about it)

The less willing black people are to hear white people say the n word, the easier it is for racism to thrive. It's not really smart to give ammunition to the people who want to hurt you.
