He talked about Zia but without making a comment about Bhutto's disastrous nationalisation, which destroyed Pakistan's banking sector, economy, industry and education. Zia came in the aftermath of this disaster. How can you ignore this immediate context? And on Musharraf he again makes blunders. First, pakistan's chief economic indicators were already showing improvements BEFORE 9/11; secondly, there was definite economic growth: Pakistani economy more than doubled in size. Nawaz left it was approximately $65 billion mark whereas Musharraf left it at around $180 billion mark. If you consider the aid provided by the US throughout the Musharraf regime, it simply could not increase the size of Pakistani economy. This is because Pakistan received $10 billion, around half of which were direct aid, and the rest Pakistan's own money (where Pakistan issued invoices to the US). His comment about Pakistani exports not increasing under Musharraf is also factually erroneous. And when he talks about the police, he conveniently forgets the reforms introduced by the Musharraf regime, which were then rolled back by the "democratic" government succeeding Musharraf. He talks about education but forgets the fact that literacy rates improved under Musharraf and Pakistan's higher education, the PhD programme, significantly expanded. It is unfortunate that disinformation is being presented about Musharraf in this channel. Yes, he wasn't perfect and there's much to criticise, but why can't we accept the positive without deceit?

Core of Pakistan's problem is that it is based on Islam, and Islam and democracy are fundamentally incompatible. In Islam, laws are already defined. In a democracy, people directly or indirectly create the laws. Pakistanis want to have both and got neither. As a result of this confusion, Muslim countries are ruled by militaries, militants, monarchs, or mullahs.

Simply no army person can handle economy It's economics not a post on border which they can manage by giving orders 🤷 Army must return to their cantonments. All civil institutions must be get rid of army personal including civil services special quotas. Civil armed forces must be given back to civilians. 111 burgaidge must be relocated and civil armed forces should handle security of capital. Isi role should only be for outside country. Secret agencies for inside countries must be under civil control. Only than Pakistan economy can go up else this country will remain like this untill another 1971 happen

When we say, something (A) performs well against some other thing (B), then both needs to be compared (A v/s B). You have put the light on A (military dictatorship) but not on B (political era). As per this discussion, it is clear the army has been trying to reform the economy, while they are supposed to do. Then a question is why really they need to do that? Is there untrust between military and civilian institutions?

I hate PPP but dark truth is it actually not that bad bcz what mush did in his last 5 years. Jo pressure economy pe tha usko kisi ne nikalna tha warna pressure cooker phat jata ( default of country). There were no disparity in development funds between both the wings, it was military expenditure since bulk of the armed forces were stationed in West. U need to do it with micro lens, and see distribution of resources. Zia never intervened in university matters, less a few where RAW had encroached. During military regimes aid in many forms flew to Pakistan which acted as accelerator generator for the economy. It was post 1988 era which destroyed the economy. Was involved in documentation of economy, traders simply refused to pay taxes. Can u take them to gallows for refusal. Get this lesson straight, we have to evolve as a nation, our problem is we r conglomerate of many nationals which impinge upon our politics and economy. India on the other hand didn't confront such basic issues. Disappointed with a benign level of talks. U completely missed factors for development and how they were overlooked by successive regimes, moreso political economy factor.

Great shows generally. This one too. A point on Ayub's era growth. We need to realize that we had one of the most professional, and educated beauraucratic class, and hence the growth. After Bhutto took over, the beauraucratic system was intentionally undermined to accommodate favorites.
