People assume I'm from a wealthy family because I'm a doctor, when I actually grew up with little to no money, because my single mother was always barely scraping by. A lot of patients start sentences like "You don't know what it's like to have no money/to depend on unemployment benefits".

I love this project because it takes away the shame from making assumptions about people (because we all do it, it's human) especially those we don't know AND encourages to don't give this prejudice a lot of power and look behind the cover.

throughout my entire high school life i've always had people assume i was a drug dealer or a total stoner and that i was super mean and hateful. this was after moving 5 hours away from where i grew up to a new school with people who were different from me. i would always have people come up to me after i would do projects with them or after we've been friends a while and say "you know i always thought you were gonna be really mean and scary but you're the nicest guy i've met". i typically wear all black, from head to toe. usually black snapback worn backwards, black tshirt with a metal band logo on it somewhere, black skinnies and black vans with black socks. occasionally a black hoodie too (at the time would be a hand me down hoodie or something from value village). i usually listened to metal and would listen to it pretty loud, i was quiet and played bass in the school band. i always put others before me and i love and care for everyone in my life unconditionally. my dreams of making music and influencing others to change the world is slowly becoming a reality and i'm hoping to eventually start up my own clothing brand. and i still smoke hella dank weed too.

People assume I'm white/American, which I know I shouldn't complain about because of the privilege that it entails (i.e. the fact that people are less racist towards me than other people of my kin, though it shouldn't be that way), but if I'm being honest deep down I wish I looked more Latina. Sometimes it makes me feel like an impostor to say that I am, even though I have been born and raised in PR, and my first language was Spanish. Love this channel! Have you guys thought about posting two videos? Where the 2nd video is where the participants are blurred out right until the end, and then the RU-vid audience can, with the participants, see who we imagined the person to be, like a reveal? That would be awesome and fun.

People assume that because I'm a white, freckle faced, red head that I don't know anything about racism. I get the, "You couldn't possibly understand" line. They have no idea that I grew up dirt poor, on the wrong side of the tracks in a town that was primarily populated by black people. It was not unusual to get jumped for being white and I was punked at school A LOT. The irony is that the kids at school assumed being white meant that I had money and didn't struggle financially like they did. Some of them even outwardly blamed me for their problems as if I represented my entire race and my race was to blame somehow. One girl that jumped me said that "My people enslaved her people". I was wishing that "my people" would show up and get her the hell away from me. I'm glad that I was able to get out of there when I turned 18. Racism sucks but you can't' blame other people for your life. We all have ups and downs and life is not always fair.

People pretty much assume since I'm short that I'm weak or since I'm a girl and I like 'boy' things that I'm going to end up trans. It just overall makes me feel less about myself because of what I like or dislike. In general, I think SOME assumptions are good like as soon as you see someone that gut feeling you get.

I deal with assumptions daily as a man of Swedish/Finnish/Swiss heritage who lives in México. Most common are the people who assume I am a tourist or I don’t speak Spanish. Often these people were born after I first immigrated to México 39 years ago, so I have spoken Spanish longer than they have.

We are a very visual species so we rely heavily on visual clues about others. The point of this, imo, is to get us talking instead of making decisions based on limited information.

People usually assume 1) I'm much younger than I am (people usually guess 16 or 17, but I'm 24), 2) that I come from a wealthy family (I remember being called "little rich girl" at work when I was 17 because I had a car, but I had paid for that car myself with money I received in a settlement after a car accident I was in as a child) but I actually came from a single parent household and we never had a lot, just enough to get by, and that 3) I had a very comprehensive education based on my ability to speak well and my outgoing nature, but I was actually homeschooled all twelve years!
