Today we have a bit of a tricky situation in the woods and we are seeing how Baron handles it! We are logging with the draft horses Baron (Suffolk Punch) and Bill (Belgian) and there is a tree that was caught up, so we will need to pull it down with the horses.
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Good lesson for Baron to hear that huge tree coming down behind him! It must feel different pulling it, too. I’m sure good ol Bill’s experience kept him calm.

Excellent job of downing a difficult tree. Great job of camera placement when backing up to the tree. It was like being under the horses. Very cool! Thanks for all you do it always enhances our viewing enjoyment.

You know, I've been a cheerleader for Baron for a long time, and I expected early on that all three of these colts would be very good horses, just because of the reputation of the breed, and the way they did things like loading early on. That said, this is an exceptional horse. I don't think I've ever seen a four year old, rising five colt who could do what he is doing. Hubby actually got teary watching him pull down that tree. That is an honest horse who gives you everything he has. Yeah, the jig trot can get annoying, but he is honest clear down to the bone and gives you EVERYTHING he has. His attitude every day is "Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play, today. What a fine boy. If I still had a farm, I would want some of his get. If anything, I'm expecting Duke and Earl to be better than him, because I think their conformation is slightly better, and because they have had Jim for a trainer right from the beginning. These are amazing horses.

Dear Jim I just knew in my heart that Baron would rise to the test. On another note. When I was 18 and my dad was still alive. We Al met up one Saturday to cut wood for a widow with 3 kids She had 4 and a husband. But her husband died and her oldest, a student at the U of A , died in a car wreck in one year. The next oldest had never used a chain saw. So there we were 7 of them men and few boys from our church to cut wood. Well I fired up and cut a post oak down. It was falling where I wanted but was to close to a red oak hung it up. So long story short I hung up and cut four oak and hickory trees. My dad embarrassed and just a little mad was having a little dressing session over this when a good friend said Whoa there dad “ bet he learned a lot this morning that he’ll not forget. Now at 73yrs I’m at the mercy of other wood cutters. At the time we were getting $10-$12 per face cored ie;a rick in those days. But I still remember that day. We never cut any thing but firewood but my mom and my wife Susie cut and hauled a lot of wood untill i got my back broke in a factory accident. Alack and alas no more cutting for me and both my helpers are gone. I sure miss the good old days. A side note my son was felling a tree that was close to my barn and had other trees on the other side. When he fell it to where it needed to fall. I said “how did you learn to fall a tree “. He said from watching you and trying and doing it myself. So I guess all is not lost he has a son that cuts and sells fire wood. Thank you for providing a place for an old man to reminisce. ❤️💕your channel and family⛪️🙏☝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🐓🐈tdp

Great Job Jim, Making a plan and working your plan .You are a true professional teamster and logger. Your strategy worked well so you were able the big hung up safely for both You , Baron and Bill. Throwing the line over the cart and start the horses was extremely smart . That pine is beautiful potential lumber. The green houses and sheds are a great extra cottage industry for the Gordon Family with William's great skills assisting you. The B Team are a great pair of horses.

"And we will attempt to do this TOGETHER." This is a team of 3, working in unison with Jim calling the shots, and the horses absolutely trusting that Jim's calls are always gonna be good ones. Not always, and shit sometimes happens. But I just love Jim's "we". Like training a sheep dog, first he casts and herds because he loves it, then at some stage the penny drops and he realises he's doing it for YOU! Then you got a dog, watching you for signals. Greetings from Australia.

When Jim bought Duke and Earl, we saw the sire. I have never seen a more impressive horse, and a working stallion. Jim grabbed the chance with the colts, so little and rough you really wouldn't look twice at them. Then when Baron popped up for sale.......The writing was on the wall. Jim knew what he was getting, and how to make working horses out of them. When Lady foals he will have 5 of these Suffolks. I guess all this is keeping Jim young.

Yeah, makes a guy think back to when the Amish had problems with Baron and sold him to Jim, and why that might have been. I guess one way to look at it is Baron was ment to end up on Jim and Brenda's farm and receive Jim's training, certainly an interesting story and testimony. Go Baron Go! Billy rocks too.

Jim! Baron is an exceptional horse!! As one viewer has commented, he’s got the heart and drive as first class, top notch work horse and he’s got YOU as his owner and trainer….. so he has been set up for success from day one! I think it’s safe to say that his brothers with be just as good and possibly even better than him because you’re training them from the start. I so can’t wait to see them hitched up as your working team when Baron and Bill have the day off and they get their chance to make you just as happy as their brother has! You’re quite the trainer Jim! And your horses at the proof!! Something tells me that Bre, having Baron as her dad and Lady being her mother will be another exceptional horse for you with her genes! It’s a real treat for me to watch your and Mrs. Brenda’s videos and I find myself getting excited for new videos when it’s time for them to come out!
