Many of you are saying you wish I talked more in-depth about bet-sizing in multiway pots. Here's a newsletter I sent out about mastering multiway pots: www.philgalfond.com/articles/mastering-multi-way-pots My readers don't "click off" when I get more in-depth, so they usually go beyond my RU-vid videos strategically. Please subscribe if you enjoy it!

I think there are essentially 2 types of viewers. Those who like just the action and those who like the action + strategy. It may be worth creating your content with the strategy, then editing a short from that for those who just like to see the action. I personally tune in for the analysis, as I enjoy the sport and learn from watching and listening. Thanks for taking the time to make these. You are one of the best out there.

Building a 5-way raised pot with top and bottom two pair is a fast track to bankrupcy. On what run out does that play work? I get raising enough to fold people out, but that didnt happen. It was simply a pot builder. 1-D level play.

Very surprised none of the analysis discussed the ton of information that Jimmy gave off before folding. He was already over the line but saying "I think I'm priced in" gives even more away. He also said something I couldn't quite hear that the rest of the table said "don't say that", maybe specifically that he had Kx with fdraw?

He has to be careful. That sounds like a great idea but if a reasonable percentage of his viewers don’t watch those videos then his overall engagement numbers drop and it can hurt his channel. Honestly I don't understand Berkey's call here at all especially considering this was his LAST bullet apparently. He's just never up against anything worse or even draws. Especially with Jimmy talking, Berkey had a golden opportunity to put Nick on basically a made nuts hand rather than a big draw. Not sure what's going through his head tbh.

I know you said Jimmy makes a good disciplined fold, but with the action surely it is a call with the pot odds he is getting. In this spot specifically his flush will almost always be good if it comes in as the other two don’t have much Ax of spades in their range with the action building up to Jimmy’s decision

Yeah, weird that Phil did not do any math/estimate here, as it is very close imo. (probably bc it's not the main villain/topic) KQss is obv priced in unless one opponent has a set and the other the nut-fd. Which needs to be more often than ~30% to make the fold good.

It's about combined MDF. By betting small, u force each individual player to find combos to defend with that they won't, thus making the mistake of overfolding in practice(even in theory each player has to overfold because of the players left to act) . If u bet too big in these mway spots, villains can fold everything but the very top of their ranges, and it would be mathematically correct. Also by betting small like that u can find a few more vbets and semibluffs w equity in ur range instead of ubernuts only( denying a lot more eq to the field and taking advg of great fold eq for a very low risk)

so berkster is putting him on a combo draw that he won't simply take 2 to 1 with and would rather move in with, seems unlikely to me

Nice! Matt had all the information he needed but couldn't piece it all together. If you watch Schulman's hand when he calls the flop raise you can even see him trembling slightly, almost fumbling his chips. That's a strong tell he has a monster (or is overly caffeinated). He even goes for the drink too, a sign of confidence, but that could just be him trying to give a reverse tell. I would assume Nick knows his stuff enough to mix his table mannerisms tells up. Anyway, I'm sure a player like Dwan would be able to guess that Jimmy has a king with a flush draw from the table talk and reactions and find the fold. But Berkey aint no Dwan.

It's impossible for you to get too deep into the weeds. The more nitty gritty you go, the more I enjoy it and get out of the video. Now, I realize that you don't do these videos for fun only, in that your time is valuable. And as such need to cater to your average viewer. Maybe do something like half you analysis videos keeping it simple, and then go deeeeep with the other half? I would think, and hope, it's also more interesting for you to create, if you do more than just scratch the surface.

Jimmy's decision on the turn is interesting because of the specifics of his hand. IF he's up against the nut flush then he's actually in great shape - he'll win the hand over 80% of the time! If he's not against a flush, but instead trips or two pair (or in this case, both!), then he has outs to make the best hand. Of course he has to worry about the board pairing but critically none of his flush outs would also pair the board. Multiway theory is weird so I have no idea what the theoretically correct decision would be - Phil says it is a fold so I'm sure that is right, but I don't know that I see that very clearly myself.

Heads-up pretty sure it's a snap. But when you're guaranteed facing two opponents there's a chance you're dead in 2 spots.

If he is up against a set and nut flush draw then he is dead unless he goes perfect perfect against mid or bottom set
@iamamish
@iamamish 5 месяцев назад
@@princeofpower8413 yes the compound nature of the problem makes it really interesting. You have to think you're against either: 1. Multiple sets/two pair 2. One set/two pair, and nut flush 3. Nut flush and lower flush Against that compound range of hands you're in pretty bad shape, but against any 1, you're doing OK.

Phil, you're being extremely generous to Berkey here. 1. He shouldn't be cold calling $600 pre multi-way with K5s, and 2. That was a terrible call on the river. I know Berkey's your friend, but c'mon, he played this hand like poorly

The real lesson to be taught here is you should not and cannot talk about the hand when it’s 3 or more players in the pot.
