As a black American having lived in Nigeria, Ghana and now Kenya. I would have to say Kenya is way better in terms of technology, hospitality and weather. I moved from Nigeria to Ghana and eventually settled in Kenya. I am 3 years old in Kenya and love it. I regret going to Ghana and Nigeria
Kenya has modern western conveniences and outstanding natural beauty, wildlife, and beaches. Mild highland weather, reasonable prices, and friendly locals. Businesses that don't display their prices can fleece you. That's why I prefer supermarkets despite being Kenyan born and bred and 47 years old. Happily married for 15 years with 3 boys.
As a Black American tourist/businessman, I was always able to get a fair deal in Kenya. I found it to be a very progressive nation - full of intelligence and friendly energy. My only issue was with the police and their constant efforts to rob me.
Its so true what you guys have said, am a Kenyan myself and I was in and out of the country work and all for many years and when I finally came back to settle, Everything is a Vibe, from women they go for what they want and they are straight forward. Kenyans are very welcoming and very friendly, Party life is a whole lotta Vibe. Infrastructure is great you will definitely feel at Home for most people. I have been to other African countries but the Most balanced country in African is Kenya. It just offers so much than other countries.
Interesting 😊 really enjoyed the interview. The best thing about Kenya is that nobody cares about where you're from, everyone minds their own business 🇰🇪
True. Bargaining is a time-honoured tradition in Africa. If you don't, sellers assume you are too rich to care what the price is. Obviously, you can't do that in supermarkets. Btw they try to overcharge wealthy-looking Kenyans too! And that is why, most of us dress down when we shop in certain places like open-air markets!🤣🤣
@@africaine4889Smh.. And so? We are not in a competition to mess up West-Africa and turn it into another Europe or America concrete jungle as you East-Africans are ignorantly and proudly doing to your own detriment..
The fact that that “mistake” (being charged in USD rather than local currency) happened 3 times in 3 different countries leads me to believe that it wasn’t an accident… ALWAYS pay in local currency. And make sure that you have an idea of the correct price before buying.
@KanuMoto… By the way he described it it was user error (by the salesperson) rather than faulty equipment. Regardless, any shopkeeper should be making sure that the price registers as correct before passing the terminal on to the customer.
I don’t see it as fraud…most likely, the cashier or whoever was running the transaction is an employee of the business and wouldn’t have been obvious that they’d directly benefit from the money if it had gone through.
I'm glad you're doing this from experience and sharing to your fellow Black Americans how sweet and great motherland is🌍❤ especially my home country 🇰🇪🇰🇪 how diversified we are...mad Respect blood!!

Do you mind if i ask why do you say that? I live in the US and I visited Kenya for a few weeks and liked it. It is a little expensive, a little cheaper than the US but the salaries are not the same as the US. I am very curious as I would like to live in Kenya as long I can on my little retirement savings. Not just foreigners. They do it to even Kenyans, who they think do not know the approximate price. There are two factors; not knowing the prices and being able to buy at high orices without complaining.

Holl3man, the $2,000 (Ksh 280,00) you see as little is what the middle-class earn hear. If you can buy a car & find a 3-bedroom house at ksh 40,000, you can cut on the expenses, especially the rent in Kilimani, Westlands, Hurlingham apartments where you pay 120-200k for 2-bedroom. But its worth it bcoz of the luxury

Very interesting conversation. I am not sure if African Americans will come to Kenya in the numbers going to West Africa, like countries Ghana and Nigeria. For one, the Ghanaian government is offering them a lot of incentives to return to Ghana and bring their money with them. Some are very wealthy especially from Washington DC working for the US government. I see FB groups of ex US government employees moving to Ghana especially as they like to say, as Repats and not Expats. The Kenyan government should also try to tap into that great financial resource system, bringing in US dollars to Kenya. However, some of the reasons for choosing the West Coast is from finding their roots and DNA tests. Most English ship merchants and captains that moved Africans from the West cost of Africa to the Americas. The Portuguese on the other hand took Africans from their colonies in Angola, Mozambique (and even Zanzibar and Mombasa) to Brazil mainly. (Some Africans were taken as slaves to Goa, India by the Portuguese. However, the Africans revolted in Goa and fled into the interior of India, mainly in the State of Karnataka where their descendants continue to live in, today. They are know as 'Siddi', a name they gave themselves. A popular Kenyan YTer went out there to meet them, thinking that they would want to know about Africa and would want to return to the homeland, but they were not interested at all. He raised a lot of money from mostly African Americans who assumed that they felt the same way as them in America, and were too poor to return to Africa. I don't know what became of all that money although a Nigerian was suing him and sister for some money of his. The Siddi said that they are very happy in India, they speak the Indian languages and don't have anything left of their former lives. They expressed no interest at all about coming to Africa, completely unlike the African Americans. And these Siddis people get an education, jobs and housing. In fact they lived in very decent housing that is well laid out and the best thing was that it was very peaceful. They say they live with their doors and windows unlocked as they have zero crime. They talked about having to face crime in Africa if they returned and even Kenyans agreed that they were much better of living in their peaceful villages. The Catholic Church with priests from Goa take care of the villages making sure their needs are met. Some have graduated from university but come home to live because they like their peaceful life. Who wouldn't want to live with zero crime?).
Correction the Portuguese took people from CONGO Angola didnt exist back then that entire area was congo those same people were scattered across Dominica guadeloupe and martinique
Another african youtuber from ivory coast went to India and visit the siddis. His channel is visual poet. He has several videos with them. And on his videos they ask him about Africa and how they want to go back. They tell him about their african roots. They also told him how the Indians treated shunned them and how life was difficult for them in India. So what is the channel of that african youtuber of yours?
If you dress like you’re abit wealthy, you get higher prices everywhere. We say, there’s a price for everyone! I’m Kenyan and bargaining is not my thing too. With time people get used to their tactics but it’s really hard
Oh yeah tell the brotha tu go tu Bogani, Bogani is a shopping center with alot of small shops, it's located in Karen, the lady charged me less than ten dollars tu take ma hair down, and she did not knot my hair up, she took it down perfectly, she washed it, blow dryed it, oiled my scalp, and braided it, I tipped her, and I went tu a tailor in Bogani, it's not far or tuu far from galleria mall, but tell brother tu go tu bogani
Black Americans need to come home, and help build our motherland. Black Americans have plenty of skills, and Africa has all the resources, we can make it happen together. We love you and miss you 😊
The usually have standard prices so they shouldn’t hike the price on you. For the braids I know they can charge up to 2k depending where you go and the type of braids. I honestly don’t think they hiked the price on you specifically for what reason
One thing I will always criticize returnees is their apparent unwillingness to learn the local languages and integrate thereby. A good number of them don't even make some type of effort! Especially if you're in some East African countries, you can't tell me Swahili is too difficult to learn.

Being overpriced is a common thing in kenya most kenyans especially the kikuyu community i being on one of them are very aggressive businesswise so when you show up to purchase something be informed on prices plus remember bargaining is very common so don't just buy something knowing well it's overpriced negotiate with the seller that's the kenyan way or negotiate whatever service you want and you will be surprised they will lower their charges to the ones you were acquainted before. I've done business before been selling mobile phones some time back and a customer's appearance upon walking in determined my price range though not all of the aligned with it though😊😊 it's business anyway
