Researchers from the University of Oxford have found children’s academic success may be linked to whether they were breastfeed or not - as children who were breastfed for 12 months were three times more likely to achieve an A or A* grade in GCSE Maths and English. They said the link remained when allowing for factors such as parental intelligence and socio-economic background. Does this prove that ‘breast is best’ or does this apply pressure to women who might not want to or can’t breastfeed?

Breastfeeding is absolutely magic, it doesn't only provides intelligent part but also, it does help mothers to loose weight, they produce happy hormones while feeding, their skin and overall health improves. They have more ability to cope with situations and become more efficient at many levels. Yes breast feeding can be a choice if the mother has to go back to work unfortunately because of, financial situations or for other medical reasons. However, at the same time breastfeeding does make a huge difference. It's not my opinion anyone with research background and work experience within industry will tell you the magic of breastfeeding your little one.

There is a lot of pseudoscience on this topic. Important to note that almost all scientific studies that found a CORRELATION (not causation) between breastfeeding and better outcomes for the child, also noted that mothers that intended to breastfeed tended to have healthier diets during pregnancy and that that could be a causal factor too.

I had serious anxious after the birth of my first child because I couldn't breastfeed him, he wouldn't latch on. I was made to feel so guilty. He went to university and is now teaching at a Polytechnic in New Zealand so formula didn't do him much harm. New mums do not need to feel pressured and yes I did go on to breastfeed my next 2 babies. Give New mums a break and let them do what suits them and their babies. One of my grandchildren was bottle fed and is predicted to get 4☆ in their A levels!

Its been scientifically proven that breastfeeding is better for a child development. Breast milk is healthier, safer and provides far more nutrients for babies. This is a fact

I think the issue is mummy's today want to carry on after baby as normal ie. Going out alone for long periods and formula allows that which is fine to want that but have respect for mothers who breastfeed and are attached to baby full time. This interview should be how cool is that theres a correlation not shaming breastfeeding! Historically the mother sat at home. I do think there needs to be more openness about how breastfeeding a baby does mean hours sat feeding as baby has to work hard to demand right amount of milk from breast and that tskes time with cluster feeds esp in first 3 months@ Massive well done to all mummy's doing it as raising children is hard! Formula is perfect for thos who cant breastfeed but choosing not too is selfish if you chose to be a mother that is what nature intended

I breastfeed and pump, I did so much research on how to increase my supply and did so. It isn’t for everyone and there is no shame in formula, also we have to not act like the fact that breast milk is best somehow shames mothers who don’t. It is best, if you can and chose to.

I’m pro breastfeeding however to play devils advocate it isn’t completely free. You often need to purchase breastfeeding clothes, pumps, pay for a lactation consultant if you need specialist support etc.

So long as the baby is fed, safe and loved, that's all that matters! As for academic achievement, environmental factors play a huge huge part! My formula fed niece is a gifted child, and my breastfed nephew is not!

I heard that breastfed babies are always on ketosis which is great for nein development, never ming the baby formula having literal poison in it and heavy metals. I think if you don't have the option then yes, formula must do. But I think we should all be informed on the benefits of it.

Formula milk is free if you are on certain benefits. I think that is a reason as well for low breast feeding rates. Also, you can give it out at food banks as I have donated some as was thanked for it.

Why are formula feeding parents always so defensive?? They act like breastfeeding mothers are attacking them all the time and refuse to see or hear anything other than insults that just aren't there... I'm not saying all formula feeding parents are like this and not all breastfeeding mothers are nice some are arrogant but cmon hear a person out before rolling your eyes and jump into defensive mode and listen to whatnis being said... its the same with any stigma be it race gender related or sexual orientation... so pathetic and immature... listen if you want to but if your just going to get offended by the subject title move on and live your life how you want... make yourself happy before delving into things that you refuse to open your mind on

this isn't about shaming mums is just talking about facts. also that other women isn't right. I work and I breastfeed...and by law employers have to give you a room in order to pump milk. that red haired woman is wrong lol I wish women were giving information about their rights also there is link between formula and SIDs and there is a link between formula and obesity. this women needs to do more reading lol

Probably because arguably a breastfeeding mother cares more about her child and is willing to sacrifice herself for her childs health than a formula feeding mother who can't be bothered to. Breastfeeding mothers tend to be more caring and attentive resulting in better education and a stable life for the child.

Never heard so much dross in all my life. I’m not against breast feeding but some mothers are unable to breast feed their child. I was breast fed but my sister wasn’t due to complications and as much as I hate to admit this, she’s more intelligent than me. (Well, she’s got a degree and I’ve got a job)

The comments on this are actually wild. "Why are formula feeding mums so jealous?" "If they can't and they won't breastfeed, why did they have a baby?" "formula feeding is lazy"...and then we wonder why women who chose to formula feed for reasons that are personal have to be on the defense because mothers who breastfeed/breastfed their babies are put on a pedestal. Absolutely unnecessary stigmatization and if breastfeeding was free, then a woman's time is clearly worth nothing. Anyone who perpetuates the notion that breastfed babies are healthier have very little knowledge about the contributing factors in studies and how to read correlation. Fed and supported is always best. Thank goodness for formula fed babies who made it with happy, mentally stable and healthy mothers who were willing to do what was right for their families.

We all know that exercise is healthy. But not everyone has support to increase physical activity. Should we then stop telling people to exercise? No! We should talk about how to provide support so that they can make better choices for their health. Same for breastfeeding

i had a number of friends unable to breast feed due to heath reasons and the nurses still tried to force breast feeding to the point the nurse refused to give her the formula to feed the baby , the ony thing that really matters is the baby is happy and safe and fed how you go about it doesnt matter

If you dont wanna breast feed but you are fully capable of doing so i have to ask... why even have a baby? Like if you know something is far more better for your babies development why not do it? This is what i call lazy parents they want kids but they cant be bothered to do make changes for the betterment of their children. Im fully capable of working, do i want to? No. But suck it up and do it as its for the betterment of me and my family i.e i need money

When did the lady say we should judge formula.thata the point , she is going on about not everyone can etc we shouldn't judge , it's like no one is and like in life if someone is ignore them . People moan about everything. More are defensive and belittle breast feeding than otherwise though. By the way I breast and formula. I support my friends who only formula feed. Not one mentions my Breast feeding or supports me . Also my child is donor conceived I couldn't have a biological child due to a tumour then early menopause. I get sadness etc . But this was talking about medical information to give woman all the information they need not to shame people and instead of it being a conversation about that or how if work is getting in way etc for those whom would like too it just went straight to the woman whom isn't Breast feeding lambasting the other woman when the poor woman wasn't being judgemental. So what's the alternative we don't tell woman the benefits of breastfeeding? I just don't get the point?

Breastfeeding isn’t free if you have health problems whilst doing it. The creams, the pumps if you need to express, nipple pads, nipple shields, lactation consultant fees etc etc.

It’s just marketing that tells us we need those things. None of that would be needed if we only had the correct support in place. Generations above us can’t help because BF rates in this country have been low for decades. Our parents didn’t breastfeed or weaned us very early. Look at third world countries. Their breastfeeding rates are way higher than ours and they don’t have lactation consultants, pumps or creams.

Pumps might not be necessary for some women but they are for those that wish to still give their babies breast milk whilst going back to work etc.

i wasn't breastfed, my three siblings were. my eldest brother and myself are by far the brainiest so on a sample of four i would say not. what i would say is i agree with the woman who breastfed that it is the best method. there are numerous sources of information on the web which show that th infant milk companies "engineered" the market/ demand to boost their income and profit.

I plan to mix feed until baby is one but i nearly gave up after 2 weeks because I got depressed from the quantity of milk which isnt enough. If i didnt mix feed I would have given up ages ago if not 2 weeks then 6 months because it is tiring and baby dont tend to sleep through the night if breastfed - the nhs dont tell you this because they want you to breastfeed which puts pressure on mums. Imagine woman putting pressure on other woman which is what this person is doing now...

Very new newborns don't sleep through the night even on formula, I believe. They go longer between feeds when breastfed as they get older. I was to lazy not to breastfeed my youngest two as you have to make up a bottle at each feed. Much easier to pop them on the boob if you are able. I haven't sleep through the night for 12 years 😂 as my two still get in our bed at 12 and 8!! They love a Mummy cuddle.

@@sgrill11124 I have many friends who breast fed including myself and many friends who bottle fed…..absolutely no difference in our children how they grew up, they were fed so that’s all that matters. If can breast feed then wonderful but if can’t then bottle fed is what it is. That’s all I really meant. Have a good day ☺️

Out of me and my 2 brothers..the formula fed one got all A* and the 2 breastfed ones got Cs. Some women struggle to breastfeed, regardless of support. I had multiple midwives shoving my baby on my boob and not 1 person could get my baby to latch and this went on weeks (pumped in-between this). These toxic people who say breast is best have no idea of the challenges some people face. Much rather a happy mum and a fed baby in my opinion.
