Most people don't realize Paraffin candle wax is a solid stick of diesel fuel. Unscented candles emit diesel exhaust. Add fragrance to the candle and indoor air quality declines even more.
Diesel is a shorter length of aliphatic (C-H) carbon chains. Paraffin is much longer and the chains get more tangled making it solid. Diesel exhaust is the same as anything burning, maybe some sulfur oxides but anything that burns is going to make carbon dioxide and water. Black smoke means it's burning to make broken chains aka soot, if there's no smoke it's burning clean.
Thanks for sharing. My Asthma Peak Flow reading went down to 250 after having unscented candles in the lounge. I've cure my Asthma with organic plants, so these candles are being binned. No more candles for us. Just clean air.
Anytime we burn something, it doesn't matter if its a candle, campfire, cigarettes, incense or whatever, when we burn it emits toxic by-products of combustion including PAH's which are carcinogenic. Lighting a couple candles on special dinner occasions isn't going to hurt you. But I wouldn't recommend being near burning on a regular basis. - The clean air guy
YES! Because candles container perfume! Which contains a lot of nasty chemicals. I have spoken to an OSHA person who told me that perfume and perfumed productus contain large quantities of methyl-ethyl something or other. Chemicals that in all other products that contain them must be labeled "use in well ventilated area".
My son started burning a candle for extended hours- in one month my filter was black. I put a new one in and after 2 days it’s turning black. This will shut your system down eventually and make it work harder. This can’t be good for you.
I think I will ditch candles altogether. My Peak Flow (lung health) went down to 250 after having unscented candles lit in the lounge. I could smell a nasty odor, and my throat and lungs felt dry. I will stick with plants to create oxygen in the house instead. Having cured Asthma with Organic fruit/veg and wild herbs. I just want clean natural air. Beeswax candles? I love bees, so will stick to fresh clean air.
The black part is just carbon. And bees wax candles emit also carbon dioxide, the same as “your car”. , Bees wax is also “a chemical”.. EVERYTHING is a chemical! Just buy candles from Europe. There the regulations are high and no crazy stuff like led is used (crazy that this was even still allowed in the land of the free.. 🙄)
