Can Cats And Ferrets Be Friends? 

I know a friend that had both and I always liked watching them chase each other from room to room. Its hard to imagine a adult cat running from a ferret but entertaining to watch.

Our cats and ferret were family and they knew it. I think the cats saw the ferret as a weird kitten and treated her as such. The only conflicts they had came with the ferret's fetish for chomping kitty ears, which the cats understandably didn't appreciate. But even then, their reactions were gentle and non-threatening. The ferret was pretty sure she was just a small cat and imitated them as much as possible. She climbed to the top of the cat tree once and couldn't figure out how to get down, but she was a smart little weasel and didn't do it again. The cats started going up there when they needed a break.

They are really adorable. I've been around ferrets over the years, but never had the opportunity to own one.

When my ferret died the cat would go in everyday looking in his cage. They were buddies. Got them both roughly at the same time when they were both just weaned.

Cats are flexible in getting along over time, but it can be a lot of work to introduce any creature into a settled cat’s environment.

I once read that ferrets are like cats without the attitude. That could work for me in extreme old age, should I wish to have a non-feline pet companion. I'm not sure, but I suspect that keeping a ferret as a is outlawed here in wondrous blue, nanny state of California, but I'm willing to shelter the innocent...

I want 2 cats and a ferret so bad

I'm an experienced owner of both cats and ferrets over many decades... All I can say to a video like this... Resist the urge, it's a really bad idea. As the old addage goes... "it's all fun and games till somebody loses an eye." In this case, it can happen in a split second and you have a ferret with a ruptured eye. Everyone who knows cats knows they have that line you don't cross... one pat too many and the cat takes a swing... anyone who knows ferrets knows ferrets know no fear and will keep pushing aggressive play as long as they are awake... it's a bad combination waiting to happen... one instant cat strike to the face and you've got a ferret that will lose an eye. I've seen it happen before... it's a really bad idea to mix these two together... yes, there are exceptions to everything and I know I'm going yo get a reply about "cat-x and ferret-y being best friends" It's just not worth the risk... I love both species and have kept both under the same roof for multiple generations... but don't put these two together... it's a bad idea and only takes a split second for a cat to send a ferret to a hospital... ive seen it happen. Enjoy your cats, enjoy your ferrets... but keep them apart... they don't NEED to play together.

i personally have a very aggressive and territorial cat. is a ferret still for me? she’s a female cat that has a history of violence towards other female cats and had to be kept in a downstairs basement for the majority of her life due to a rather extreme fight between the two. if i have a ferret, i don’t want to keep this animal locked away and miserable, but i’m very anxious about what problems could arise with my cat. i don’t want her to hurt a ferret, but i also don’t want a ferret to bring her any harm. my cat likes to stalk and watch from a distance, and she also swats or bites when you walk by. she plays with my other cat by chasing him, and i don’t know if these factors will be a dealbreaker for getting a ferret. any help????

Do you think my cats might spray to mark their territory when they smell the ferret in the room?

Well I've had a furret for 4-5 years now and my parents just lost their dog so they thought it would be a good idea to get something with a bit less maintenance so a cat it was. The car was a rescue from spca and hes really big 14lbs hes also 4yrs old. The cat kept ripping the screen on the door to get outside for the bunnys in the back yard so my mom couldnt handle going out to look for him everytime he got out and asked me if I would mind taking him if course I said not at all as long as he gets along with fuzzyboots (ferret) and well do for so good its only been 1 day tho and not even a full day so we'll see how it goes.
