I heard an Isle of Man team were in talks to join The North West Counties League too. Be much easier for them to progress, with the island being closer to the UK, you'd have thought
Isle of Man would be an interesting place to have a side, they have already got a lot of decent infrastructure to sustain a side and have a decent sized stadium already in Douglas, so they have a lot of potential to have a decent side in the pyramid.
Guernsey FC have just won the PL, in our 3. season in the PL! Now we’re playing CL as well! OK, I’m talking Football Manager and i’m in the 27/28 season... 😀
They'd be better off basing themselves on the south coast or near to London for training and then only travel to the Channel Islands for home games, making it easier to attract players who won't have to relocate.
@@rickygrimshaw1255 I remember going to see Ilkeston town against them on the Isle of Wight 1996 also going to Fischer athletic and Kendal town all in few weeks when non league football was a proper league system to many southern teams now thanks
If they get to the same level, they will save on travel costs between themselves and probably get bigger crowds, sooner Jersey get up to the same level, better for both. The channel island derby!
English football already has a league side on an island, and once top flight, plus FA Cup winners. A lot easier than channel islands, but Portsmouth on the island of Portsea. Love the non league videos, and photograph non league football in the New Forest area of Hampshire for a local paper, which covers 7th to 10th plus even lower in it's sports pages weekly. Mainly 7th to 10th tier though, and even on a cold wet Tuesday night.
Fascinating, thanks for doing this, I guess they play in the Vase but I certainly wouldn't mind like NL team being drawn to play Guernsey! If they pay the travel then they can thrive but as you said much depends on getting the players - fab place to live but part time only so not easy to live there even so.
Logically playing budget shouldn't really make a difference. Not like the players are going to be lured away to anywhere else for more money as they're on an island
Mate have you heard of Scott Taylor, he manages the u18s team I play for and he said he used to play for Kidderminster Harriers, thought I’d ask since ur a Kidderminster fan.
I think Jersey will go higher than Guernsey purely on the basis Jersey have a Rugby team in that games 2nd tier. Though it has to be said Rugby is a different ball game literally and metaphorically. Moving on, now we hear of the Isle of Mam following the example too. FC Isle of Man state League 2 in 15 years as a target though I personally think L2 is a ‘Bridge Too Far’ for any offshore team to cross, but they’re welcome to prove me wrong.
Yes they can progress up the leagues. Look at Jersey reds rfc. They play in the english championship and have been for a few years now. Remember there is a lot of money on these islands.
They’d nearly be better off joining the french leagues? I know the cultures are different and language a problem but it would help the travel a lot. This can be done as well clubs in one country playing in another one, look at derry city playing in the league of ireland
Owen Thornhill 95% Of Derry Fans Are Nationalists And Republicans, Derry never wanted to play In The Northern Irish League, Cliftonville and Derry Are the only teams based in Ulster that have Nationalist And Republican supporters, virtually every other club in Northern Ireland is unionist and loyalist. In my view Derry shouldn’t be Aloud to play in the Republic of Ireland League, it’s Stupid and ridiculous, Derry City FC Are Traitors! It’s like if PSG started playing in the Spanish league.
@@Micfri300 There are loads of French speakers in both Jersey and Guernsey. Why would anyone shit their pants trying to learn French? It is part of English school curriculum from age of 9.
@@Micfri300 You are obviously confused by simple geography. The proximity of the Channel Islands to France means a large number of the population are bi-lingual and grow up speaking both languages. Not sure why you think people who go to Spain has anything to do with this. They are mostly those who are going on holiday or older people moving there after spending whole life in England. A better comparison with Spain would be Gibraltar where again many people are bi-lingual.
I guest Jersey and Guernsey might be able to capitalise on their tax haven status. I am sure I few old pros wouldn't mind living their to avoid a bit of tax.
Another problem for attracting players is that the Channel Islands have their own seperate immigration systems. You can't just move from England to Jersey or Guernsey, you need to apply for a visa, even if you are a British citizen.
