Hey Ray, love the project. Since you already have the retract motion of the ram, you need to rig up an automatic ejector mechanism. You know you have thought about it. That would be a cool video. Who knows, the ejector could feed a launcher that shoots the cans into the neighbors yard.
Now your talking Joe, I like it, I do need to finish Version 2.0 with something cool like that! I can tell you that crusher jr. does get a good workout. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Ray
Hey Dan, Yea, this thing is too much fun only if could only get my kids from crushing all the cans now I'll have to add a child lock to it! Best Regards, Ray
Hi Ray, Love your can crushers - both of them! They will always be a conversation piece when you have visitors. Good luck with getting your shop approved. I will bet it will be top notch all the way! Take Care Buddy! Reid
Thanks Reid! For sure, since I'm starting from scratch I would like to do it right, just takes money and time and hopefully will evolve in a good working shop! Regards, Ray
Somebody didn't finish their beer....LOL Great job Ray. I think that's what they call too much time on your hands. Nice temporary shop too. Most people would kill for that and you're going for bigger and better. 👍🏻
I have a buddy that always leaves the last sip in his can, drives me nuts and I might have to cut him off! I do have a little down time since I'm still waiting on the city to approve my application but so far so good and should get word this coming week! Thanks for tuning in! Cheers, Ray
Thanks Paul, I still have not finished the welding cart but it is on top of the list of projects for the new shop! I hope all is going well and hope to see you at this years Summer Bash! Best Regards, Ray
Nifty, I visited a local shop a few years back that had one almost exactly like your first one, with a switch like the second. He had his sped way up and said it had been working great for several years. Good luck with those, they look like fun!
That's cool! I was afraid the cylinder would beat itself to death if I did not slow it down a bit but sounds like It might live a while at full speed! Thanks for sharing! Regards, Ray
Hey Austin, Thanks man! I too am looking forward to getting started on the new shop build, should be breaking ground in mid to late February if all goes well with the permitting. Thanks for tuning in once again! Cheers, Ray
Hi Ray, Those crushers look nicely made, one thing I would introduce is a device where both your hands have to press to actuate before the thing goes down, even more if you operate with a foot pedal, if you get pieces of fingers in there you won't be able to crush as thin as you like due to interference... lol Hope the zoning people i your area are aware what a garage or shop represent to a man or even a woman in many cases, here none of them even imagine what it is at all... Sadly... Cheers, Pierre
Hello Pierre, I agree, safety first! I would hate to loose a finger over a 2 cent can! So far so good on the zoning, I'll know if its a go for sure this Friday, and will let the gang know as soon as I hear back from the city! Thanks buddy! Cheers, Ray
I'll feel better shaking your hand at the bash if you still got all your fingers... ;) Also if anyone inexperienced uses the machine or even kids... Best of luck with the city goons...!
Nice can crusher Ray! Now you need a small foundry to melt them down and cast some parts. I trust you received the good news and it's just a matter of time until you are in the new shop.
Hello Jeffrey, So far so good just waiting the finial decision from the city! I think I have enough hobbies, a foundry is a whole new ball of wax or should I say sand! Thanks for stopping by and I hope that all is well with you! Best Regards, Ray
Good luck with the shop! How about take the cylinder off junior and rig it to a trap door on the bottom of big poppa so it has an auto dump feature out the bottom. Plumb exhuast from the big cylinder into the dump side of the little one so the door would open on destroke but have a very small orifice so pressure can bleed off that side and a spring to close it back up as the pressure bleeds off so door is normally closed for loading.
Hey Brian, Now I wish I had not tig welded the base, I like your idea and sounds like it would work as long as the base was latched closed during crushing. Thanks for the tip buddy! Regards, Ray
Just fine here, except it's a bit chilly and, as of today, I'm another year older. :>( Clearly all is well with you. Slightly jealous of your soon to be new workshop, maybe one day. ATB c
Happy Birthday Chris! I am very excited to be getting my own shop and not having to share the space with cars and kids bicycles! We down-sized our home and up-sized the lot, main reason for moving from my 19 year old home, the misses got a new house and I get a shop, I think she got the better end of the deal but she works very hard and deserves a nice place to call home! Enjoy your birthday and will chat with you again soon! Cheers, Ray
hi there i made my first one on air . i found as i ran it a lot the psi would go down and the cans kept getting wider . I would do a big bag at a time . 5 inch cyd . in and out can chew up more air then one would think . i changed to hydraulic looks good john
Hi Ray, really nice work on the crushers!!!!! Also crossing my fingers for your planning application, local planning authorities can be a pain. Looking round your workshop, you seem to have some really nice kit there, can only imagine how well it would function in a purpose built workshop. Many thanks for sharing. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe.
Hello Joe, I have collected some really nice tooling over the years but have been limited to a small garage in the past so a larger work space will open up a whole new world for me and my hobby! I am looking forward to breaking ground on the new shop, just waiting on the city at this point. Thanks for tuning in! Best Regards, Ray
Good luck with the planners, I just hope they don't think your trying to build another home if it looks too much like your present one! I do like your can crushers very much.
Hello Dan, Funny you said that, the city did ask that same question in the planning meeting but so far so good just waiting on the "conditions list" from the city before moving forward. I'm happy to hear you like the crushers, they are a blast to use and recycling is not so bad anymore! Thanks for tuning in! Best Regards, Ray
Hey there, "Crusher" Ray, Didn't you used to live in Fresno before? I take you moved a little east and now are in Clovis. When I was a service tech, I worked for one place and installed a mailing labeling machine at the newspaper there in Clovis in the '80s. More recently, I serviced saws at Meek's Lumber in Clovis. I don't get down that way any more since I retired. We will have to make a trip down there. I can be there from the Bay Area in about 4 hours. The wife and I could then head over to Hwy 5 and stop at Harris Ranch, have dinner, spend the night and them head back home. It would be a fun trip for the Spring before it gets too hot. Thanks for the video. It gives me some ideas for a project I've been thinking of. Have a good one! Good luck with the Planning Board! Dave
Hey Dave, Yes was in Fresno but am now in Clovis, its five miles east of my old place, far enough east to have a great view of the Sierra Mountains! For sure, let me know if your in the area, would be cool if you could swing by for a visit! Best Regards, Ray
Hi Ray. Once you get your site permit approved, I think you need to christen the site prior to ground breaking. Let's see.... you have air, air hose, a pneumatic can crusher and full cans of beer. How about an AvE style Canuckistan Blessing of the Grounds? You know you want to!
For sure Larry, Let me know when your in the area again, you can join me in the christening! Hopefully your attending the Summer Bash this year! Best Regards, Ray
@@RaysGarage all that it's Greek to me but thanks Sir !! I'm way, way down your scale with tools , I can do fiber optics just fine and minor repairs at home. Sorry I'm knew to your you tube line. thanks again Sir
We all started where you are at right now! I am a At&t Fiber splicer by day and have been a Construction Splicer for over 21 years! You can learn a boat load of great info on RU-vid!
Hi mate. on the 2.0, could you get a line from the exhaust to the bottom of the crusher? You would be able to blow out the crushed can with the exhausted air from the ram returning to the top. I hope you get your permit soon mate, I need more projects.
Thanks Marcel! Yes the exhaust would work great to eject the crushed can, I'm on it! Looking forward to moving forward to the new shop build! Best Regards, Ray
Hello Wayne, I just run dry air and have never had an issue. I am not sure if oil will ruin the seals or help them, let me know if when you find out for sure.
Congrats on the shop build Ray. Did you move or are you in your same home and just building a shop in the back yard? My wife and I are in the middle of the same thing now so I have been out of the youtube scene for a few months. We bought a new home, closed up our old shop and have just broken ground on the new shop/RV garage. Good luck with the build, looking forward to progress videos. Mike.
Hello Mike, Yes we moved last October, smaller house bigger lot! Sounds like your up to the same as me, the best of luck with your new home and shop build! Best Regards, Ray
Hello Charlie, That's a great idea and would work very well, I might have to look into adding that to "Big Daddy" I do like drinking from bottles too but the return on cans far out weighs recycled bottles! Thanks for you ideas and comments! Regards, Ray
excellent idea ray, and well built, too, out of nice components! wold you consider a liner of some sort? some liquid necessarily spills into that metal channel during the crush. my only concern would be on how much of those junk sodas you folks are chugging. thanks for the video, -toly
Hello Toly, You are correct, the channel does get liquid from the cans and will need to drain, main reason why I used stainless steel components, it also sprays while crushing if there is more than a few drops left in the can, a safety shield would be a good addition! Yea, the kids need to get off the sodas and start drinking more water, even beer is better than soda but I'm sure I would get locked up for that... Thanks for tuning in buddy! Best Regards, Ray
Hey Tom, I love the the Tom Lipton approved safety glasses, my kids call them "Guido Glasses" very fitting since I come from Philly! Have not tried a 40 yet, I'll have to run out and get a few and give it run! Looking forward to seeing you again soon my friend!
Sounds fun, next time your by we will do just that and see if we can put a can through the wall! I hope all is well with you and Julie up there! Thanks for tuning in buddy! Cheers, Ray
@@RaysGarage What does that even mean? I asked why didn't you show it? It's like you completely ignored it or even want to hide the misfire. And if they don't stand a chance then why did it not crush the same as the others.
@@AztecWarrior69_69 Watch the video again, at 17:25 the 24oz Coors Light can is crushed just like the rest of the cans on the workbench. "Get you some of that" LOL! Have a good one brother!
@@RaysGarage Um that's exactly what I'm talking about I even put the time stamp in my original comment, and now 17:28 if you pause it and click the timestamp, you can clearly see the can NOT get crushed like the others but it gets shove out of the pipe. I mean I literally asked and gave that information. "17:27 Why didn't you show when the large can didn't crush like the others?" 14:36 - 14:51 You spent more time talking about it than showing the end result for large can yet almost all the rest got crushed good you took the time to show almost every other can. It seems at this point that were embarrassed by it and you even jump cut edit 17:27 to 17:28 from right after it gets crushed to you setting it down on the table. You cut out the showing of the can not being crushed the same as the others. This is kinda sad that you know exactly what I'm talking about and you just can admit or even acknowledge. How do I know you know what I'm talking about? Because you took the time to edit that part out. You also leave the can out of the rest of the video. You set it away from the other cans. LOL. As if you don't want anyone to see your project as imperfect. "Get you some of that" LOL!
