DeMar DeRozan just broke Wilt Chamberlain's insane record of 7 straight games with 35+ points and over 50% shooting, and not only has he carried the Bulls to first place in the East, but did he just put himself into the MVP discussion? Coach Nick breaks down his game and why his shots are going in so often.

Coach - instead of me buying a shooting feedback session, how about you give me some input on my pnr defensive notes? I'm trying to create multimodal, didactical, simple 1 pagers on theory first - and a selected framework for my current teams playbook for next season second... You in? :p

People need to stop lying on DeRozan. He’s a clear MVP candidate with his impact mirroring Steve Nash’s impact in Phoenix when he won back to back MVPs and changed the game into what it’s evolved to in the modern era. If narratives matter as they always do, than while Jokic, Durant, Curry, Giannis etc have their standard great seasons, DeRozan is having an epic season that is having an impact amidst everyone doubting him and calling his acquisition the worst of the offseason. DeRozan has taken the bulls from worst to first with a traditional game in the mid range. He’s had some help with Chicago’s great offseason but his story + impact makes him a front runner for MVP. I just hope he can continue to excel in the post season and exercise those demons.

now that you mention it the biggest reason nash won those mvp was the before and after team record and the repeat was because of injuries and him carrying the team.

This story sounds great emotionaly but you have to look at the stats/facts rationally. 1. It's not Just the offseason that brought Them ball, caruso and dosonmu but also the trades made last year. Vuc only played 26 games for the Bulls last year while the addition of javonte green in the same frame shouldnt be overlooked. 2. The Bulls might be close to the top spot in the east, they would be 5th in the west, only a couple games ahead of Dallas and Denver. 3. The so called standard great seasons by jokic, Embiid and Giannis are historic, all 3 are on pace to finish in the top 5 all time for PER. Yes derozan is in the conversation but not in the top 3

He’s been great and he’s on the verge of cracking into the MVP top 3 IMO, the only knock I ever hear is how the bulls haven’t beaten many teams above .600. @@ctcity1477 I actually think it’s because it’s his lack of a high volume and good efficiency three point shot. In the playoffs, coaches make adjustments. Because derozan hasn’t proven to be a super good three point shooter, teams won’t have to defend him that high up, and can clog the mid range easier. This is different than KD, CP3, and Kawhi because they are legitimate threats from layup, mid range, and 3 pt land, so teams can’t defend all three and thus give up the mid range

I keep reading that he single handedly has changed the Bulls but Lets not forget that last year the top 8 in Total minutes were White, lavine, Williams, Young, temple, markkanen, satoransky and valentine. They all played more minutes than vucevic. This year is a completely different (and much better) team. This is not to discredit derozan, i think he deserves consideration for all NBA first team.

The fact that Derozan is having the success that he is, doing it the way that he is, and is playing so similar to MJ, yet Derozan is only 70-80% the player that MJ was just proves the old-heads' point that MJ would absolutely dominate in today's game. Averaging 40 ppg isn't that unrealistic.

Nah, as a Raptors fan, he's definitely a lot better now. His playmaking is on a different level compared to his time with the Raptors. He was just starting to become a playmaker when he got traded. Then you add his calmness, decision making and even better footwork, he's looking great. And he's surrounded by shooters to make up for his lack consistent 3, they are made for each other. You're right about the playoffs though, I have to see DeMar perform in the playoffs since he always shrunk under pressure.

Why people think that mid range shots are the only ones that matter. You need to be able to create from anywhere, not just mid range.
