This is so random, I haven’t seen neither of them in like a year 😂

I don’t know if you guys are aware but recently there’s been a trend of analyzing dragon ball fights as if they were real fights frame by frame and I love seeing those because it’s so easy to miss all the thought they put into each sequence (for example piccolo likes using ki blasts as cover for body shots and I just never would have known without some of these videos)

Just seeing the title/thumbnail made me think of that little comic where two dudes are boxing, one of them pulls his hands back and says “Kame. . . Hame. . .” And the other guy just quits there. When interviewed after he says “I know he probably couldn’t do it, but I didn’t want to risk it.”

There was a call back to Vegeta's own elbow move against Goku when Cell did it to finish off Super Vegeta. Fighting is a part of the story more than we think!

People really forget about the fights in Dragon Ball, Roshi vs Tien, Goku vs Tien(Both tournament fights), Goku vs Krillin(all fights), Goku vs Piccolo(all fights)

Choosing first fight sequence was ridiculous, the OG series has so many well choreographed scenes, choosing the scene where the anime staff was basically just padding the runtime with some repeat frames was just criminal

Watch fights from og dragon Ball in the original dragon Ball the fights were actually realistic

12:15 I did play a lot of Mercy in school, we ended up making a modified version to include an element of grappling and bringing full body motion in. The challenger would cross their arms before linking hands, since it puts them at a small disadvantage while allowing better full arm movement, and essentially the goal is the same, crush and manoeuvre your opponent into letting go or giving up. While you can fully move your arms, body and legs to rag each other about, any deliberate strikes are forbidden and doing so is forfeit - for example if you turn your opponent around you can press your knee into their back to restrict their movement, you can't just full on knee them in the back. If you're someone still able to roughhouse with a friend, give it a go. Not being able to let go creates an interesting and fun division to regular grappling and especially to Mercy if you've got the space for it!

Some of the better fights to analyse would be the OG Dragon Ball, the final tournament when Goku is an adult is probably the better ones for the sake of analysis but frankly there's a *lot* of great fights early in the franchise before it became a numbers game.

Note: Broly has near 0 formal training he is a brawler to Goku's martial artist and Vegeta's pragmatic warrior. So him using scrappy moves fits. Also Vegeta loves the head butt. As much as Goku bites, Veg uses his giant ass forehead on people. That particular scene of Vegeta and Freeza is filler, done by one of the less skilled contractors and notably bad choreography, lol

Something funny is everyone thinks it's just crossing the arms. But if you look it's done with tucking one elbow behind the other. Never tested it in fights but just messing with it shows how strong a lock you can get and it would probably stop fists really well. But it blocks too much sight to be a viable held block.

Short answer; no. The show evolved from a martial art show to a super hero show. You don't need to know fighting styles or techniques once you're power level can beat anyone lower than you. This is why Freiza had no actual combat style and was more or less backhanding and slapping people with his tail, which hurt weigh more than any technical punch or kick. Plus they generally always finish people off with an energy beam.

Using Ebisawa's fighting scenes in DBZ is just... no, please don't watch those XD Ebisawa and Uchiyama are probably the worst head animators from the franchise, to watch actual good fighting scenes in DBZ, always look for Yamamuro, Masaki Satou, Minoru Maeda, Naoki Tate, or those animated by studio Cockpit. It's such a shame James made you look at that scene between Freeza and Vegeta XD
