I had to separate my ducks and chickens, my roosters would relentlessly go after and mount them. I raised them all together but once the roosters matured, they just wouldn't leave the ducks alone.
As long as they aren't being TOO aggressive with the ducks I would say it's just a mild annoyance more than anything, roosters don't have the same uh.. appendages as a male duck does so they can't actually do a whole lot other than pulling some feathers and such which is honestly pretty typical for how ducks mate anyway. It's really only in the reverse situation you have to worry about a lot, a male duck trying to breed your hens could actually end up killing them, because again roosters don't have the same organs as a duck so hens aren't designed for duck love😂
i have my chickens and ducks together but I had to get rid of my rooster sadly because of laws where I live. Although I still have my drake who grew up with the chickens and rooster and doesn't even bother with the hens at all. he'll clean their feathers if he's felling nice enough but beyond that he really doesn't mess with them for mating. is this because he grew up with them or because he knows that our hens are our roosters even though he is gone?
Obviously they can I keep ducks and geese along with chickens in my farm, ducks and geese have big big pond and I litteraly don't need to close them beacuse when danger appears pond is there for them, now obviously geese might be hesitant about chickens but ducks are completely chill around them
They can exist together from my expierence, but why would you ever do it besides for the appearance of a mixed flock? They have the same exact uses, with one being horrifically messy and attracting way more flies, and the other laying less eggs and being much louder. I just picked chickens, the cons of ducks were too much for me.
Is it ok 2 have brewers yeast added to the chick feed, so you can keep them together w the same feed? Also how long do you feed Niacin (brewers yeast) to ducks food? My local feed store was zero help.
My 13 week old Mallards live in an enclosed area and I have 7 week old Call ducks that I want to put in the same enclosure. How do you recommend I do this without my Call ducks getting attacked or injured?
Thank you so much for this information. I found 2 orphan ducklings so I got some chicks so they could have companionship and grow up together. They are almost 2 months old now and the chickens have been trying to keep them in their pecking order lime. They also chase them away from the good spots in the coop. I, slowly working things out to have the perfect coexisting environment for both species but it’s not happening overnight. Your information is extremely enlightening. Thanks again!
Hi here’s a video bout chickens, I’ll tell you everything I know about chickens and the things that are the same, but the things that are different, yeah I’m not taking the time to inform you about ducks in the duck video, click on the article Says the happy chicken coop
Thank for your time and work on your filming. Great information. I bought trios this year, chicks and ducks are almost 1 month old now, they still sleep together like puppies, so far they all are quiet at bedroom
