We are back second half of this special edition of the break 90 challenge. After a difficult front 9, EAL is looking to salvage these next 9 holes. With narrow fairways, and fast, rectilinear greens, Erik is up against PGA tournament conditions from the tips.
Brian Baumgartner, popularly known as “Kevin from the Office,” is also commentating on EAL’s attempt to break 90. The championship course, the “West” course, has hosted five US Opens, the sixth being this year, and one PGA Championship.

Like watching a boxing match that went 12 rounds, hard fought to the end man and seriously amazed by the effort to get around the place. As for the elephant in the room, I think EAL and the RGC team put in the interaction with the members to show those newer to the game that yes you most likely will come across the stereotypical pompous arrogant wealthy guy on the course at some point. Just follow that example and kill them with kindness. As the conversation progressed from that point, it seemed as if they came around a bit and gave some support so with those guys it is always take what you can get. Proud of the effort man and 17b on!

Before i finish watching the end of this video, I'd just like to truly thank you Erik! I was obviously excited about the Open tomorrow and this just gave me the fix I was craving so that I can have a decent nights sleep! Regarding the so called "haters" who are negative about your score, jealously is a horrible trait, but that is their burden to bear. Please continue to make awesome content, I'm sure many of us can agree we enjoy cheering you on & the true perspective you display about golf. Again, THANK YOU! You make golf seem like more than just a sport. Its a million things in one. All equally beautiful & brilliant, yet it has access to emotions of anger and doubt that is unfathemable when in such a peaceful setting. Its why we love the game, it keeps us present, thats a gift.

A.W. Tillinghast was a jerk..... lol. I just found out he designed one the courses I play regularly. I’m sure it’s nowhere near has hard as Winged Foot, but some of the course characteristics are definitely recognizable. I think he wanted to make every player really earn getting on the green and challenge their instincts off the tee.

There are a few things that I have taken from these two videos. 1, I have no doubt Eric could have broken 90 if he had of used his 3 or 5 wood off the tee more often. 2, score does matter. And don’t for one second tell me that Eric is not a competitive individual. 3, don’t let your ego decide what club you use Eric. Great course and great video. One last thing. You 4 putted the 9th.

Holes are measured from their pivot points rather than straight from tee to green, so it is possible (if you miss by going straight through a bend) to significantly shorten a hole’s measured yardage. The tee shots used the standard hole yardages, and the rest I think were based on the guy using the rangefinder to the pins.

Great video. If you played it 10 more times, I bet you'd break 90 6 or 7 times. It wasn't the course that beat you, it was your drives. It would be one thing if you just missed them, but you missed them by a mile. You can drive better than that, but maybe the pressure and, of course, no driving range.....tough. Very, very cool to play WF, but even cooler to hang with Jermaine. That guy is the man!

Thanks for giving us unprecedented insight to this course just before the US Open. In a classic tale, Erik hooked when he needed it straight and cut when he needed the draw. a little session on the range can straighten that driver out. Yeah, classic CC members at the end, would love to see their round, hitting from the senior boxes probably cuts the course down by 1500 yards and they'd still blast over 90. nice video, thanks! Why are you hitting the driver? Unless you're insanely accurate with the driver...when you play a legendary course like Winged Foot and the fairways are tight and the rough is high...hit 2 iron, some hybrid or maybe 3 wood. The key is to keep it in play.

So there is absolutely no doubt he could have easily broken 90 here. I mean he hit the ball terribly off the tee by his standards and came close - I mean the 3 putt from 20 feet at 9 and then the other 3 putt caused by having to put that stupid mat under the ball - I think this video shows the blueprint for how you would do it. Gotta take advantage of the getable par 3's (at 200 or just under) - which he did. On the short par 4's that pro's are looking to drive you hit an iron and play for par as the pro would a birdie. If you can make a par on one of the par 5's then it's really on. So if you can make 5 pars then the secret becomes playing those monster par 4's as you would a par 5, except without the pressure of needing to whale it 285+ off the tee. If EAL had gone his favorite 4 iron off the tee then laid up to 90 yards (4i + 6/7i) then he would have shot 85/86 and totally rubbed in this face of those a$$clown members. Sure, still gotta be accurate but that's much easier with a long/mid iron than the woods - and Erik is a very good golfer. He could do this and I was impressed anyway that he came so close.

I unintentionally practice those shots out of the rough you spoke of at 6:03. As in, I typically hit into the rough, pin is in the dead center of the green, and I miss it to the right 60% of the time. Texas State Volleyball scramble tourney in New Braunfels in April/May 2021, see you there.

I threw up @ 31:07, this is why people hate golf. Much credit to EAL for letting that slide off his back and continuing the conversation. I would have immediately walked over to that DB's bag and snapped his $700 putter. But he probably has three , so I would have been the loser. I hope that he trips and falls on that 8 dollar martini tee he keeps tucked under his 300 dollar belt and the wound gets infected and they kick him out of the club because his daughters gang banged Mario just because they never met a decent man in their whole life.

Next time, I’d like to see Ricky Shiels our with you on a break 90 video just to see the contrast. Good ametuer, EAL, golf pro, the Rickster, and then we get to see the tour pros in the weekend.
