I don't think they were made with the intention of replacing ghandi, I think they were made with the idea of them being the new generation of the old cast (think Skins or Doctor Who) and we are just watching the previous generation interact with the new one.
@@melonking281 In Season 5's finale, they wanted to kill off Kenny permanently due to being tired of killing him all time. So in Season 6, they tried to replace him only that it didn't worked out and decided to bring him back right at the end of Season 6's finale.
I think a big problem with new characters is they designs clash with the old characters. They don’t look like they’re from the same show with how many bright colors they have making the characters look way too busy
Yeah I get that it’s kind of the point to show they’re not from the same time but just being exaggerated gen z stereotypes was not the way to go about it.
Columbus is probably the only exception since his design is much more simpler like the original cast from the first season, compared to the designs of Confucius, Frida and Harriet. Not only does his simpler design and antics feel more believable but it actually feels like he belongs with the original cast and the entire show.
@@ThunderBeam707 that is so true which is why he’s my favorite of the new group. Even then colors could have worked for the rest if they weren’t so violently bright. Like no one is wearing that. I’ve also noticed that Confucius, Frida, and Harriet basically all have the same colors too.
i mean thats the whole point they are made to stand out they are from a completely different generation from the ogs and they’re trying to market this show to gen z(even if they’re not doing too good of a job)
I think a good idea for bringing Gandhi back would be to not just reveal he’s a different historical figure, but to reveal that he’s a historical figure who is generally disliked by the public. That way there’s no controversy over how they portray him. Just going by Indian historical figures, Aurengzeb (the sixth emperor of the Mughal Empire) is considered by many to be India’s most hated historical figure. Paintings of him even portray him as having a big nose and a black beard, so he’d be a perfect fit for Gandhi’s already existing design.
Hopefully they bring him back after the show gets too big for failure and we can continue his romance storyline Though I love how they keep making sure the audience and those who cancelled the show before know that Gandi still exists though his many references
I have to repeat this constantly; Gandhi was not the reason the show was cancelled. The show was already not renewed for a season 2 way before the “outrage” about Gandhi sparked. I watched the show in real time, became obsessed and was a leader in the “don’t cancel clone high” internet movement. Back then adult swim/mtv/teletoon was notorious for having one season cult classic shows that due to the still infancy of the internet, went very under the radar. Shows like CH, Mission Hill, The Oblongs and Undergrands were all shown together and all famously never got second seasons because the viewership was never high enough to renew a show. There was a point that after so much energy of our group of Clone High fans emailing the clone high contact us email, teletoon, mtv etc they finally said they would love to do a second season, but their broadcaster wanted a partner broadcaster to ensure it was seen in both Countries. Teletoon (Canadian adult swim) was on board but they could never find another network to go in with them. Atleast that was the story we were always told by the corps when we’d harass them weekly. The outrage over Gandhi didn’t spark up until about a year after the show ended technically

This is a small issue, but the fluidity of the new season’s animation is smoother than the original and it kind of takes away from that nostalgic look. Like yeah we have the ability to make smoother animation now but the quick jagged (not sure if that’s the right word) style from season 1 gave it a lot of character and played well with the humor and setting that it was made in
I've heard that Lord and Miller said there's a chance Ghandi will come back if the show gets a season 4 (they've already got a 3rd season ordered apparently). So i think the chances of him coming back anytime soon are low, unfortunately.
Everyone complaining about how the new characters clash with the old ones, but I actually like that you can tell there are 2 generations of clones cohexisting. I know the "cancelled" pilot was kind of cringe, but I'de hope they explore a bit more the interactions between two groups who are the same age, but from diferent times. Outside of the lame gore joke, I wish they did more with Cleo feeling bad about not being the most popular girl on school anymore. I feel she got integrated into the group a bit too easily.
I really don’t understand the Gandhi argument for Season 2. I love him just as much as the next guy, but given how flanderized the OG Clones have become since Season 1 I don’t even wanna know what they would’ve done to him and his character
I've said this before, but the toughest part about bringing back Ghandi is who should be cast as the creators stated he would be recast if he returns. While I will miss his og voice, one candidate I would consider is Karan Soni, as he's the voice of Spider-Man India in ATSV, a Lord-Miller project.
I don’t think giving Gandhi a native-Indian accent would really fit him (wouldn’t really make sense because the clone of him wasn’t raised in india), maybe an Indian voice who tries replicating a standard American accent could be neat though and inclusive. On the other hand, I wonder how Pav would think of CH Gandhi, would he respect him tremendously based on his clone father or feel off about him, but still passive to him anyway?
i don't think i'd call it underwhelming, it's solid i suppose. the character designs are kinda weird but i mean, considering it's been 20 years, it could have been so, so, so much worse
I'm on your side it's not an amazing show but it's good. Everyone who is so vitriolic about the show should probably watch the Rockos Modern Life reboot, paying specific attention to the kind of obnoxious cancer that Rocko was being about the Fatheads... they are being Rocko... and even Rocko realized he was in the wrong eventually.
The only thing that really bothers me with the new clone high is how the new characters stick out like a sore thumb like they don’t blend in with the old characters at all with their bright and modern designs 🤦♀️

The worst part about cases like this is when there is a show with a good POC character that actually has character that doesn't revolve around their race and people get offended and cancel it. Indians really threw a fit over nothing with this and I feel rather spiteful over it.
Clone High just isn't Clone High without Gandhi. He's my favorite character and is a part of what made season 1 as great and absolutely hilarious as hell as it is. And it clearly says something when they filled his spot in the show (for now) with FOUR new characters. That shows just how badly needed Gandhi is to be back in the cast and while the new clones aren't the worst, they obviously do clash with the originals, are not favorites of mine, or will never touch the surface of how great Gandhi is. His return to the show will be HUGE for the reboot and will help it significantly. Hell, if they have to bring back the idea of him being revealed as a clone of Gary Coleman the whole time for his return, that wouldn't be bad either. I just want his character back in the show and know everyone else agrees when I say his character IS needed again asap.
The latter episodes have really turned me around on the series So much so that I feel like the bad start was intentional to lower expectations that would result from a 20-year wait
First episode gives a bad impression, and Confucius ain’t bad of a character and I wouldn’t say Columbus is like a Ghandi, he’s definitely a weird kid but like the psycho kind instead of like Ghandi’s hyperactive and social type of weird but still charming you could see people hanging with him.

I do wanna preface that I do enjoy season 2 but I also think one of the biggest issues with the show besides gandhi is it exists as a continuation to Clone High but feels like a complete reboot. This is because all the character are written just a bit off which is expected given how much time has past but also straight up have completely changed dynamics, betraying some of their original characterisations, to the point it feels like they should've just committed into making this a reboot or just not making this a CLONE HIGH show. Even the protag is changed from Abe to Joan, which I don't think is a bad thing but again it's quite a stark difference from the original show, which is why it can kind of feel jarring? Some of the characters never even bring up previous events, there's been no acknoledgement of Abe and Cleo's relationship and generally the show doesn't exist as a parody of teen dramas anymore, it's just another adult show without the sharp jokes of the previous season. That being said I don't wanna just end this on a crappy note, I do think there's a lot of merit to the show despite me just talking about it's flaws! I really enjoy the new characters and how they interact with the other characters, and there are still relatively funny jokes, especially with Scudworth! Hell there's been ASPECTS of teen drama in recent episodes, but I really do hope things continue to improve. Especially now that production on season 3 has begun! If season 3 goes well I am excited to potentially see the funny man in season 4 again because I think he'll return a big chunk of the charm original Clone high had. TLDR; WAAAA it's not like original Clone High. But some of it is okay :).
i wish they showed the new characters in like their own episode to get to know them and to get used to them from that point on and not just shoving them in one episode
I think my favorite part of the new show it that episode 2 or 3(I don’t remember which one) was just Creepshow for no reason. Like, just watch it and than watch an episode of Creepshow in shudder or the first movie. You can tell
With ghandi I think he would make the show FEEL like clone high, but the writing in the new show just needs to be better With how abe is behaving on the new season I think ghandi can save abe in how abe is handling everything
I feel like the main saving grace for the new clone high is Scudworth's slapstick stlye of comedy still being very present. Columbus is the only new character think feels at least close to Ghandi.
Retconing the lore of Ghandi to make him a clone of a different person sounds good enough for me, as long as he keeps to be the original character type that he's supposed to be
I saw the first episode of season 2 on RU-vid when it came out and some clips of other episodes online. I haven't watched the whole season so these are only my thoughts based on what I've been exposed to. I think what they've done is they've tried to take Gandhi's roles and spread them out across different characters. Confucius is now the more rambunctious friend who wants to be cool and who Abe sometimes consults with, Confucius and Gandhi are also both famous figures in history who dealt with wisdom and ethics. Abe is in a weird place because he returns for his own role but now he also takes up part of Gandhi's role being the one trying to fit in and getting lost. Had Gandhi returned I think it would have been more fitting for him to "get cancelled" and meet Columbus. With Gandhi missing it creates this sort of weirdness in the show that's been spread to other characters that doesn't really gel. It's an attempt to make up for his absence when he helped to tie everything together and he was a character that others could bounce off of. What makes season 2 hard to digest for me is how stark all of the new stuff is. Many of the new character designs I think are obnoxious and often they don't look like they're from the same show, plus there's also a huge push to make the new clones super gen-z. Everyone else looks like a normal person, then there are the new clones with zany neon colors and they're spouting off about TikTok or whatever. They feel less like Clone High characters and more like gen-z is their whole personality, it's very forced. I agree about Columbus though I think he fits in pretty well. Columbus has a more toned down color pallet and his form looks more like a Clone High character, he also has a personality based in something from a kid in high school.
Gandhi was so important to show, they should have brought him back . Let India be pissed off . Egypt wasn’t mad at Chloe, ( see had mad they are Netflix for the “documentary”)
I’ve quite enjoyed the new season of Clone High. And while I don’t particularly miss Gandhi too much (I don’t dislike him but he was the character I was least invested in) I do get why people miss him and hope he returns down the road.
Gandhi becoming Gary Coleman never made much sense to me- Coleman died after the 80s and it would change his whole ethnicity. Maybe as a clone of another Indian historical figure or another historical figure named Gandhi, bc there r a few. Or maybe hes a regular teen that snuck into clone high and pretended to be a clone of Gandhi, who knows what they'll go with
If Ghandi does return, either they keep him as is but put a disclaimer pointing out he’s a clone or reveal he was a clone of someone else like Gary Coleman as was considered back during the original run. Also his return could totally work as a 2 parter. The first part focusing on finding him and the second part having him get up to speed with what’s happened. Also make Confucius, Abe, and Ghandi a trio after the latter’s return
Possible way to save the show: Gandhi comes back, causes an accident that kills ALL of the new characters. After that, the formula from season 1 returns, and the fans are happy.
In all honesty the only one of the new characters I really like so far is Frida. She has actual resemblance to her clone mother, and I think they did a good job of making her into the super chill art girl. Confucius is fine, just kinda a bland wannabe influencer, and topher can be funny at times. But I loathe harriet, she looks nothing like the person she's cloned from and is just really annoying, like what is with her obsession with being famous, isn't that supposed to be Confucius' thing? And I hate how many episode plots so far have focused a lot on her.
The cancel culture episode would’ve worked a ton better with Gandhi as the target of the episode along with changes to the story a little to match this. Its also innately ironic how the show was cancelled due to Gandhi, and the first episode of the new season started with cancel culture.
It would be nice the only problem is that if he does come back. There's gonna be a big group of people screcognizing his character since hes supposed to be a clone of Gandhi Or worse they're gonna try to use the last season immense try to cancel series again.
Judging a show based on the pilot does have a few exceptions. Oddly enough, lego ninjago is one of those. Season one is kind of the pilot while also being canon. Yet, the main ninjas get time to develop yet there are still mysteries that are set up. Like how zane doesn’t understand comedy, being the set up to a big discovery about him in season two.
Honestly, I am preferring the new season of Clone High over the original. The first season was much less consistent in regards to tone, quality, and story structure. And, honestly, I like the new characters, the new dynamics for the original characters, and how meta the series has become. It shows growth on behalf of the show-runners: Chris Lord, Phil Miller, and Bill Lawrence. And you can definitely see some of the lessons Lord and Miller learned from making the Lego Movie and the Jump Street films in the fabric of the current season of Clone High. I may be in the minority here, but I definitely prefer the new season at this point.
I think a hood write around is to make him a mix of the rename and grandi so maybe since Ghandis body is ashes tge principle used other dna to finish it so its ghandi but also not him and I think its the best of both worlds
3:45 - You clearly understand the gag, say it's a funny gag. You also note near the start you know WHY the show was ended the first time... Yet you are still confused why they don't bring Gandhi back? I love watching people fester over reboots it just reminds me of the joke in many modern reboots of old 90s and 2000s shows. A fair bit of them mock the fans who expect the show to be a 1:1 of what it was back then totally ignoring the fact that the world we live in today is a vastly different place from when those shows were made. When Clone High was released we were in the peak of Edgy humor where r***rded was a normal thing to say for something stupid and gay was in the same boat. Now a days these words will get you canceled, so it's actually very fitting for the satirical show that Clone High is to hit the ground running by introducing the characters to one of the first things you would actually run into in this world especially from a highschool standpoint. Most of these cancel culture wars are being waged by highschoolers against big celebrities because the newer generations are fixing some of the offensive nature that was prominent in my younger years of the 90s and 2000s but they are often over correcting... and that over correction is what Clone High is commenting on, it's showing how fast a small thing can spiral into something much bigger than it was initially. Like Christopher Columbus... it makes a LOT of sense that he would want to not be himself with all the backlash and blind hatred for the real life man there is in the world. Then it's also funny because famous individuals like Kahlo are gaining steam now especially in an art history field, I just obtained my art degree and a BIG part of that was Art History, I have seen the rapid incline of these amazing but marginalized artists become the forefront of art history studies over the last 5 years with no sign of stopping. The show actually makes a lot of sense to be doing what it doing if you don't lock yourself in the 90s and expect the show from the 90s to this version of the show... cause it's not going to be. You and pretty everyone else who hates the show cause it's different or cause Gandhi is gone are falling prey to the fallacy of Appeal to Emotion. You don't typically miss these elements you miss how you felt when you experienced the show the first time through. It was a different time, and you were younger so it was a simpler time. We now have bills and other things (because if you were old enough to remember the show you are in your mid 20s at least). I too look back on my younger years, Recces, Rockos Modern Life, Doug, Early seasons of Spongebob... but I know that those times are gone and I don't expect a reboot to be the same... but I expect it enough to remind me of those days and Clone High does exactly that. It is still Clone High it's just the 2020s version of it and while I miss Gandhi and do think they should just bring him back cause f**k India because the depictions of all the characters are 'disrespectful'. The new episodes explore more about singular characters instead of them just being all in one just because Like (watch it and find out) But the writing has gotten better and its funnier Im excited to see what else they can whip up with the last 5 episodes Also ghandi will return in season 4 ...if there's a season 4
The new characters feel neon. they don't go with any other characters in the scene (or the backgrounds of the scenes themselves) and just feel like OC's rather than canon show characters. harriet has WAY too many colours going on and just... doesn't look like her IRL counterpart. at all. Abe looks like Abe. Ghandi looks like Ghandi. Harriet looks like a girl in a theater class who yells a bit too loud in conversation. everything is way too saturated w most of the newbies, but it shows way more with her, with 90% of her character being clashing, complimentary colours. comp. colours can work, esp as accents, but she's got bright neon fushia over lime green and atomic yellow, stacked over eye-melting blue, and more neon yellow. She looks like an acid trip was translated into a quilted blanket. i feel like a lot of this can be fixed by getting rid of the blinding neon hair... or at least darkening it (like Joan's) or making it more pastel. theres more bright colour than neutral colour and it drives the eye crazy and doesn't match her surroundings, further creating a distraction. Not to mention: Harriet Tubman already had a design in Clone High in the older seasons. She looked great! (or at least better) build on that! you aimed for Clone High and made a Nickolodean character.She feels like a first draft or an idea dump where someone w adhd couldn't choose a colour pallet so they went "fuck it."
I feel like the best way I can explain clone high’s tone to me at least is that the episodes used to feel like watching rip offs of old dramatic shows or stuff youd see on like MTV, VH1. Kinda like if you asked what millennials grew up as drama TV and made a show centered around that concept as the joke. This new season feels more like its a rip off/parody of modern entertainment, especially tiktok. Like its more of a reflection of modern television and entertainment for teens /young adults. Which if thats what they’re going for can be interesting hopefully if the writing can find the right tone again.
I don’t think the characters feel like themselves. The new season focuses too much on the new characters pushing the main characters to the side, making them feel hollow. All of the clever relationships between the old characters have been unbalanced by the new ones. I really want to love this season like I did the first one, but it just misses the target so far.
Frida is the anti-Gandhi, they try so hard to let you know that she's supposed to be the 'cool' one that ends up making her come off as lame... Meanwhile Gandhi tried to be cool but failed at it which in turn, made him cool 😎
I've been enjoying it fine without Gandhi. it feels just like the original even without him. if they bring him back eventually that's fine too. although I really don't like the whole Gary Coleman idea if they actually decide on doing that. I don't really have any complaints on any of the new characters either. I noticed a lot of people complain about Harriet from the start just because of her design but I think she's slowly becoming my favorite of the new cast with her more out there personality.
Who is this Columbus character you keep talking about? I don't remember a new character with that name. On a similar note, I can't believe you haven't brought up Topher Bus
Honestly I think Topher is a pretty ok sidekick for Abe, but I feel like the fandom, myself included, see Topher as more of a person who is so attention starved that as soon as he gets attention from anyone, usually Abe, he takes it the wrong way, and thus leading to reasons why tophabe exists. For me, I feel like I’m not a fan of Topher being a sidekick of Abe’s. As much as i relate to him and love him with all my heart, he could never fill Gandhis shoes, and I can’t see him ever doing so. As frida mentioned, I see Topher more as a simp than a sidekick for Abe.
