It's D-Day Time!
It's the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, so what better way to celebrate than by trying to survive it myself? But what if I was FORCED into being historical in Hearts of Iron 4? What if you played the Overlord mod, and could only use the actual historical designs, presets, and battleplans?

The addition of Historical presets into Hearts of Iron IV was an awesome thing for massive history nerds like myself. Now, I play REALLY historically, using only the stupid tanks and planes that happened in real life! I'm aiming to do this with EVERY country in the game (or at least every major) so let me know a good suggestion down in the comments for more countries to play!

Hoi4 as Germany but everytime you win a battle for a victory point town, you have to also win a skirmish match in Company of Heros (or similar game) before you can actually advance into it. If you lose the skirmish match, you have to let the AI re-garrison it and try again. Is that a stupid enough idea for you? Lol

One of the funniest parts of history, is that tank units couldn't advance when the landings happened, because Hitler was too busy having his beauty sleep to give orders. And since they could only move upon his orders, they just sat around, even though the allied soldiers had barely any weapons to repel the tanks at the time the tanks wanted to push back.

The problem with Rommel's plan is that it would have massively left the Panzer Divisions vulnerable to battleship bombardment and harried constantly by CAS.

14:54 You can actually chose what type of equipment the battalion can use, If you deselect (uncheck, unmark) the Equipment, as you did at 15:10 , the division will only use Improved Medium Chassi, which is Pz 4, and vice versa, so you can create two identical divisions that use different types of the same category, you can even do different type of infantry equipmnent usage, so you can make division only use K98 or Stg44. In conclusion, separate Pz 4 and Pz5 divisions are absolutely possible.

The ZG 1229 Vampir was not a red dot sight, it was actually a very early and rudimentary “night vision” scope, utilising infrared and the user would look into the sight piece and the infrared would illuminate the area within about 70-80 metres. The Vampir was very heavy and cumbersome, not to mention quite delicate and could be destroyed by the user just by accidentally knocking the device.

There was a submod specifically made for MP in previous versions, but its out of date as of now. It started you up with the Allied units just having landed in normandy, historical placement and assignment of generals and units. One caviat tho, you had to use the mod specific, not included savegame (thats pinned somewhere on the Scenario Hub discord MP announcements channel I think)

Buetpanzers were actually French WWII tanks captured in 1940. In order to beef up the garrison divisions in the west without wasting pz4/5/6 on a cold front, the captured French tanks were used. Tanks like the S35, while outdated even by 1940 were considered good enough for infantry support and anti partisan operations.

You actually can make two different panzer divisions (or i guess batallions) based on Panzer 4 or 5. Duplicate the tank template, and you can manually change allowed equipment for each division to be only of one of the two.

I guess the numbers won't be exact, but you should be able to manually adjust the divisions to get as close to the real numbers as possible.

I'm not sure if this has been said before for your subscriber goal challenge, but if it hasn't already said, you should use historical designs for everything as much as possible (divisions, tanks, ships, and planes), and maybe doing it in Black Ice on top of that.

For the panzer divisions regarding using different types of tanks- yes you can control that. In the division designer near the top right is an equipment tab, where you can micro manage what divisions get what type of equipment. Unless this mod disables that feature, you would be able to make different (panzer) divisions use different equipment. You would have to do the same thing as the Panzergrenadiers, except instead of changing the line combat unit from mech to motor, you keep the template the same but in the equipment tab they use different tanks.

Worth noting, basically everything the Germans had at this point tended to be way understrength so the on paper strength doesn't honestly matter much. It was quite common for divisions to be at less than a third what they should be and it was very rare for armour divisions to have anywhere close to their assigned complements.

Oh, you want a challenge? Well, do artillery only Actually it's kind of viable with mountaineer artillery thing. I played as soviets like that in 1.13. Not sure it's as easy pull off nowadays, but it's an interesting challenge. To formulate challenge more specific, let's assume that you are allowed to use any companies and any "combat support" batalions (sp versions included) and fighters (no cas though) Love your historical vids btw

Regarding the Maus. You slightly missremeber it with E100 wich only chassis was build. Maus was actually built in two pieces one of witch was eventually blowed and second captured by soviets. It is in Kubinka tank museum now, wargaming actuall was palnning to restore it but another war happened in europe

Just a little nerdery on the german Tanks: There where supposedly 2 completed Maus Tanks, but they where blown up before they could be caputred, so the soviets put the scaps together and there is now a empty maus turret on a empty maus hull in the Kubinka Museum. Not entierely shure what the Beutepanzer 18f is, but from the icon i would guess its a "upgraded" Char B1 -> so not a WW1 Tank :)

Oh and Vampir ZF is not a "Red-Dot". Red Dots have been a Thing even before WW1. Altough very uncommon on guns, practicly every gunsight on Aircrafts where "Red-Dots" (Reflex Sights) . Vampir ZF is a Night Vision Device. Wich lets you see at night

Im honestly a little disappointed with how easy this mod is in a few certain ways. First of all, the problem with spawning enemy armies on the edge of this zoomed in map makes it too easy to just pin them against it and get rid of them in the first few weeks, and then it acts like there isn’t land beyond the edge of this map. And the actual invasion of d-day is pretty undercooked for the ai at least. Like there would actually be a challenge if the allies got a proper beachhead, but because it’s so easy to expel them in the first few days, that challenge never manifests. Basically, by doing good in the first few days of conflict in this mod, you invalidate any actual challenge, making victory underwhelming

Rommels plan was much more sound, you need a fast mobile force to repel an invasion not stationary forces. The issue is that the Germans didnt have air superiority anymore
