Hey gang! Welcome to another episode of the AnxietyRX Podcast. In the latest episode of my podcast, I had the delightful opportunity to engage in an enlightening conversation with none other than Dr. David Spiegel, a true virtuoso in the realm of hypnosis.
Dr. Spiegel, a Wilson Professor and Associate Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University School of Medicine, is not only a prolific author and researcher but also the co-founder and chief scientific officer of the innovative self-hypnosis app, Reveri.
He illuminated the ways in which hypnosis can be a powerful ally in managing anxiety and healing from trauma. Together, we explored the fascinating interplay between the mind and the body, and we spoke about the insula - a critical part of our brain that helps us decide where to focus our attention.
Dr. Spiegel recounted an inspiring tale about a patient of his, underscoring the profound importance of feeling empowered in one's own journey toward wellness and self-perception.
We delved into the nature of worry, recognizing its intent to safeguard us, yet acknowledging the detrimental impact of self-criticism.
And here's something truly exciting - the app he’s been developing called Reveri, harnesses the power of hypnosis to tackle various challenges.
It's absolutely captivating to consider how hypnosis can facilitate a deeper connection with our inner selves and enhance our sense of autonomy.
And guess what? My team has added timestamps for you below to scan what topics are covered in this episode and if you want to jump ahead you can!
Dr. David Spiegel has gifted all of you TWO WEEKS FREE of his self-hypnosis app, Reveri.

Thank you both. I think I've lots of things to personally 'unpack' coming from watching this vid, I might have to watch it again.. But two wonderful perspectives to listen to, and many points and observations well communicated. One thing in particular stands out for me though. I believe we stand firmly on the shoulders of those who came before, but had never considered the perspective of looking at my young self in a similar way. Wow! I've found lots of gratitude for my younger selves, thank you. I agree that this is one of your best vids yet, although I must say that I haven't watched any of your vids without finding something helpful (probably I've watched about half since reading your enlightening and hope giving book a couple of months ago). Thanks again ❤

“I put myself into pain that I have some agency over” - I think I found the reason for the self-harming behavior when I was younger. Cold plunges are a much better option. 😁 I’ll try that!

Hi Dr Russell, I am almost done reading your Anxiety Rx book and it has been an eye opener for me, as my childhood has been similar to yours(Narcissist father and emotionally unavailable mother). After reading the book, I went down the memory lane to recall so many moments of my childhood where I was treated badly. Its overwhelming. I am trying to connect with my inner child but for the past 2 weeks my feelings of anxiety have been intense and I am facing panic attacks. I am trying to be patient about it. Am I on the road to recovery? Is it normal to face intense pangs of anxiety at the start of healing journey? Am I really healing? Please do help❤.

3 months of professional hypnosis has not helped my anxiety, depression or insomnia unfortunately.

Unfortunately, hypnosis doesn’t work for everyone. There are some people who are very hypnotizable and others who don’t respond very well at all.
