You mentioned Andy Murray at one point. Say , what if you could somehow get his attention and get him to play you for a video. After he retires , he may just be up for helping out fellow players. Will he win , of course , BUT , you will have a blast doing the vid , and it will illustrate for those who think they are hot shots just how hard it is , and just how far the gap is between club players and pro.
@TheTennisMentor
@TheTennisMentor Месяц назад
@@keylargo5157 there is nothing I’d love more than to be bagelled by Andy in a Mic’d Up Match. He has one of the best tennis brains we’ve ever seen on tour along with his humour! I couldn’t think of a better guest…

@svarodzic

Thinking that a rec player (even a high performance one) can win even a single game out of even retired 3 times grand slam champion and 11 times grand slam finalist is a total absurd.
@keylargo5157
@keylargo5157 29 дней назад
@@svarodzic yes of course , but that would be kinda the idea. Such a match would show just how wide that gap is to the average person. Perhaps Felix could give it a go. The other positive to this would be the publicity boost to tennis mentor.

Beautiful club! If either of you ever want an unorthodox opponent, let me know. Nearly 55, early retiree who picked up the game late in life. PS: Grass is a rare surface for most Europeans. Nice match. James is a backboard. He can get to a lot of balls and I like his attitude. It was an interesting contrast in styles. Ashley has a really smooth serve and has a nice relaxed forehand that he catches out in front and swings through. You can tell his two-handed backhand is not his favorite shot. I can relate to that. James looks smoother on his backhand and hits through it, but his forehand looks really shoulder heavy and I think thats why he is catching the ball late and not finishing through the ball. Relaxing that arm and letting his hips lead would probably fix that, but I know thats hard to learn. Fun to watch. Thank you both for sharing.
@MichaelSienkiewicz
@MichaelSienkiewicz Месяц назад
It's not easy to diagnose his forehand. It's obviously a loopier swing and he breaks the plane, but i'm not sure how i'd go about trying to fix it.
@double_fisted_tennis
@double_fisted_tennis Месяц назад
@MichaelSienkiewicz Very true. I'm just going off my personal experience of having a similar issue and what helped me to get more connected and swing through the ball. I very well could be off base, but it looks very similar to how I used to hit my forehand and what was holding me back from generating easier power.
@MichaelSienkiewicz

@@double_fisted_tennis It's actually kind of a James Duckworth type forehand, but his swing path is not direct to the ball so he can't create any offense

yeah James has a gigantic take back on the forehand and just a mid serve. Surprised he has not lost more games as this can be exploited. But he looks to be very athletic so its likely he chased every ball down to make up for this weakness.

The LTA gets tons of funding yet they can’t organise a proper structure of tennis yet! That’s a joke. My big annoyance with Tennis is that the best in the world are largely the best of the people who can afford to play and continue. Hardly any top players come from poor backgrounds. Don’t say Novak as his parents were business owners.

Ashley, fun session. Thanks. I thought you lost relatively few points at net. Two questions 1) In retrospect do you think you should have continued with your plan to come into net more frequently- either serve and volley or with more frequent approach shots? 2) At the club level, do you think the new rackets and strings have killed aggressive net play as it has at the pro level, or should most of us spend a little more time practicing our volleys? Most of us club players play doubles anyway. Thanks again, David - Dallas.

Great to watch! So got a question, I was playing a league match at my club last winter, I am 64 fitness not bad for my age during a rally a dropped a ball short drawing my opponent in, he hit it to my backhand as i moved toward it to hit a double handed backhand across him it dipped below the net i went down doing the splits the pain made me screech a little, he missed a tricky volley which landed in the tram lines! He insisted the point got played again since he says the screech put him off! I replayed again (begrudgingly) he won the replayed point! this was in the deciding champions tie break since it was 1-1 set all! I think at the time it was 2-2 all, but i was really pissed since when i talked to other players they reckon I should have stood my ground and not replayed the point! I went on to lose a close tie break 11-9 but the whole episode left my concentration not what it would have been!

Interesting that James has won so many matches without a strong serve. I can see how it's not that easy to attack because of the spin but he won't get many free points with it or start ahead in the rally. Just my amateur opinion of course.
